What am I missing?

Based on form, Swannies slight favorites as far as I'm concerned.

Fullback out - Bolton
Fullforward out - Bradshaw
Bordeline 1st choice ruckman out - Seaby

We cannot afford to carry any out of form guys in the hope that they will find form. This is very costly in the modern game. Hopefully 1 of Ellard or Davies gets a crack and shows the old boys what it means to play for this magnificent jumper.

what like AJ and Jamo?

if you're going to play fringe players you need to atleast give them some time to adapt to afl tempo IMO.

you're right you can't afford to carry to many in modern footy though, but it's about finding the balance and ensuring we get a good look at the list.

unfortunatley we ar enot playing too well and have several guys in our 22 who are not at the top of their game, making it harder to blood/carry anyone.

not every player can come straight in and have an impact like lucas and white have.

yarran and robbo are still very up and down, as is garlett and hampson is only 2 games in after a lenghty injury.

we are not going to win any flags this year and while i'm not advocating throwing the kids to the wolves, but i'm more than happy to appreciate that a few younger players around the fringes get a string of 3-4 games in a row.

the yo-yo effect if bringing a guy and and dropping him only to bring them back in a week later is a poor way to manage your list IMO.

obviously you still have to try and win each week, get the right match ups, tactics, structure and team balance so it's a fine balance.

it's going to be good to see ellard and hopefully davies or grigg show their stuff.

looking forward to the game.

What no Fisher???

Ratts said Fisher rolled an ankle in last quarter of Ants game and would not be considered for selection this week.

Yet, Fisher is named in the Bullants side.
I noticed that Carlton is fielding the equal youngest side this week (with WCE), yet we are not mentioned as a young side very often compared to Essendon* (Knights favourite saying is "this young side") and Melbourne.

No Barry Hall or Michael O''loughlin - it was no coincidence that they were out last year when we won by 10goals as we had lost so many in a row against them.

The big question is which Carlton are turning up this week. Good Carlton or Lazy Carlton.

Expect a big flood in our forward line this week while the Swans have the open forward line, spare numbers in defense and will run it out if lazy carlton are not switched on.

I probably can't make it this week.
That usually means we win.

Hope you're right Woof, but they really have confidence when they play us and ours is hardly sky high. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, early game is always on Fox. Pre-game coverage starts at 12.30pm.

The point we all forget is that everyone says you need to get the kids to 50 games before they even start playing well, well Bower and Jamo have just reached their 50 games, the bagging of jamo in particular is not warranted, we expect so much from these 2 , it shows how good they WILL be .

The bagging of Thornton on this site really shits me !!

His performances for this club over the last 7 years have been terrific, especially in the lean years where he regularly played on the number 1 forwards week in week out. His season last year was fantastic and there were people on this site mentioning him for all Australian selection.

Between Robert Walls, the majority of this site and the coach they have somehow managed to turn him into the scapegoat.

How anyone can justify Jamieson getting a game ahead of Thornton at the moment defies logic.

Jamieson has been terrible over the last month and to me Thornton is far more flexible and can play tall or short, uses the ball well and generally makes good decisions. Jamieson provides no drive or run, and when he gets the ball regularly makes terrible decisions.

I'd have Thornton ahead of Jamieson every time.

For me, the one thing that puts me off a player more than anything else is when I see them
blaming/attacking team mates for mistakes. You only need one of those in a team to do a lot of
damage - particularly if it's a young team and the person in question is a senior player.

Now I've never met Brett Thorton and for all I know he might be a lovely chap, but what I see
on the field and the attitude I perceive from this side of the fence turns my stomach and I for one am delighted that he's out.

One things all great teams have in common and that is a strong sense of camraderie and support between the players. Teams that in-fight will fail and none of us want that for Carlton.
Fev's sulks were bad enough. This sort of behaviour is worse.

IMO.....Fev was the very worst at blaming team mates for so called mistakes.....lace out or forget it.

Argue with the umpire while your opposition is whisking the ball away to a team mate.....he was the worst for morale.

Neither Fevola or Thornton have the ability to cop that sort of thing on the chin and just get on with it, they're both finger-pointers.

Looks like Ellard and Warnock will have to wait a bit longer

Davies, Warnock, Ellard on the bench. (A bit disappointing)
