Were trying to show were tough by bumping players around stoppages but all were doing is giving away free kicks but its putting your body on the line and hard in at the ball is what we lack.

Hawthorn and North showed how soft we were.

Would love a Campbell Brown type, goes in hard at the ball, hard at the contest, love the way he plays footy.

Carrazzo

Scotland

Houlihan

Thornton

These supposed 4 leaders crumble against the toughest opponents time after time

Yet they still get games

Time for the soft dead wood to be removed permanently. Why not play the following instead

Anderson

Davies

Ellard

Cachia?

Put the heat on Russell, Murph & Gibbs to lead from the front and put their head over the ball.

Give Robbo licence to take out opponenets... give away a free too bad. I liked Walkers hit on Picken, at least showed some intent.

C'mon CFC... DON'T THINK... DO!!!!

Great approach, attitude. Team player. Hard at it.
But ... he fits into the category described earlier.
Skills are at best questionable, (especially his set shots).

The players just can’t be blamed only, the match committee especially Ratten has something to answer for, with the stupid idea of picking the best in the draft and not what we need. We get rid of Fevola, with no back ups to replace him at full forward except the player we traded for him Henderson & O’hopeless. Carlton refused to pick any tall key forwards until the Rooky Draft were they picked a couple tall’s, and it seems to me that happened due to the outcry from the supporters. It is also a disgrace when you have to rely on Eddie Betts to lead up the ground and take contested marks most of the time we go forward and O’hopless can only play unaccountable footy week in and week out and he is also one of the oldest on our list with useless Wiggins. How did he stay on our list like Sentata O’hopeless for so long when they are useless, is it because they are good blokes off the field or they try hard?.
This club favours far too many players that should not get a regular senior game as they currently do. Our game plan is very predictable and does not work with the players that play regular games such as O’hopeless who cannot take contested marks to save himself. We also have far too many short players in the forward line that do the same thing, do not tackle head on only from behind and rely too much on their speed and not ability. Garlett & Yarren are the same type of player with Betts also in the side, that can only play in the forward line and not in the midfield, no variety in the forward Line.
All I can say it’s a shame the Coach is one of the boys as I would not mind picking up Mark Williams up right now as Coach or at least try to lure Malthouse to coach Carlton next year.
Every body loves O’hopless but enough is enough, if he was Australian he would have never played as many games as he has. Everyone has waited for years for him to come good, the fact is he is 28 and still cannot play footy. He cannot read the play and always brings his man to the contest and tries to rove the ball and get cheap goals.
We will never go anywhere with him playing and it very sad that a player of his ability managed to play 70+ games for this club, that is supposed to be proud of the jumper.

I think you see individual moments of courage during a game. Russell quite often runs with the flight of the ball to take a mark and given the spead of the game that takes courage. Kade Simpson will also put himself in position to get smashed when marking, Robbo's an angry little ant and Judd takes so many hits during a game he cant be questioned. Walker has returned from injury time and again, courage, determination also

What we dont have is an enforcer, McLean was bought in to add hardness around the ball but unfortunately at this stage it looks like a failed attempt. Waite seems to recognise the fact that we're seen a weak and has tried to dish out a bit but has been rubbed out twice as a result. I was Sh!tty when he was suspended but now I'm starting to think differently. As mentioned WIGGINS, Anderson, they add hardness but fail in terms of skill. What happened to the Setanta that used to get angry and engage the oppostion? I loved the day he went at Llyod....seems another lifetime now.

So, what to do? It's clearly not in the nature of some of our boys to be nasty but I seem to remember Geelong having the same tag. Ablett, Chapman, Stevie J even Byrnes and Stokes all take hits and fly the flag when required. Why do Hawthorn have so many hard players? What was it that sparked the change for these teams? Maturity? Desire? People tiring of having their courage questioned? All these things bring a certain amount change as will confidence in the game plan and their teammates.

We should also look to address it at trade/draft time. You've still got to draft the basics of football but leadership and hardness need to be assessed and considered as well.(not saying they're not but when your'e not picking at pick #1 then maybe the bloke with more desire gets picked ahead of the silky skilled)

Anyway, I don't think it'll be an issue long term. We've come from a long way behind the pack, this is just the next challenge.

Until we string together consistent results we are at least mentally soft.

Like others I am protesting by not turning up to see such drivel get served up. Can't see how that isn't loyalty, I pay my membership every year, even gave $200 to a bloody raffle the other week!

Coaches/Managers rub off on the players - and I think we have a mentally challenged group of managers/coaching staff that is rubbing off on the players.

It's amazing the hate for O'hAilpin when he has kicked as many or more goals then 'superstars' Travis Cloke, Alan Didak, Jason Porplyzia and et. al. He also offers a damn site more around the ground in form..

Problem is that he is now getting 2 or 3 possies per game and is completely useless. Should not return until he is physically capable of playing like he was in the first half of the year.

The boys talked about being harder after the Freo debacle, esp the lack of support for Judd. Lip service only.......as I ain't seen anything hard about our team in the 2 games since. Very hard to instill toughness in a group of players who are in the main soft.

Good question that has probably been asked in the inner sanctum.....i hope !!

You would never say blokes like Judd, Armfield, Simpson, Russell were not
very courageous players, but the further you go, the skinnier it gets.

However, there is not one single player on our list who would make an
opposition player think twice about physically challenging them.
That is like having money in the opposition's bank, there is no fear factor at all.

As an earlier poster said, a fair slice of that responsibilty filters down from the coach.
Some prime examples....... Malthouse, Clarkson, Matthews, Sheedy, Parkin, Barassi.
Now a few of those are ancient history now, but there are a few flags between them
and one VERY big common denominator between them.....they were all MONGRELS !!
All rabid white line fever mongrels who would do anything to get their team to win.
I just dont think Ratts sits amongst them, he also was courageous as hell, but there
certainly is no hardness about Carlton circa 2010.

Maybe we could give Mars the flick and be the Western Star Blues !?!
