We were seventh best team last year and we have not improved on that in 2010.

PROS
Judd
Russell
Joseph was OK on Gia
Joseph probably broke even with Hudson
Hendo until injured
Armfield OK

CONS

The rest, but particularly Gibbs who had his worst game for the club and Murphy. These guys need to lift when the chips are down
Sentanta - needs a stint in the twos to get his confidence back.
Hampson - good athlete, not good footballer
Appalling when entering the fwd 50.
Ratts comprehensively outcoached. We just had to man-up inside our fwd 50. Every time dogs got the ball in the D50, they ran it out with numbers.

After losing such a colossal forward, the consequences would come home to roost eventually.

Thankfully we have Waite, who could kick 5 goals a game with his eyes shut if played as a full forward. Just needs to tuck the old elbow in.

Cons:

- Our failure to recognise that selection involves 22 players, not 20. Carlos and Hampson were bollocks. Hampson made Tom Williams look like Reiwoldt, in fact apart from two marks he looked the like the most un-cordinated footballer I've ever seen, a level so far from AFL it's not funny.

- Carrazzo. Andrew was too busy admiring his tricks with the ball during our warm ups to care about playing for Carlton Football Club today. Message to Carrots, shape up, recognise your value to the team.

- Murphy. Murphmellows I hear are coming to a supermarket near you. King of the front runners tonight.

- Betts. If only the full time siren blew after the first goal.

- Jamison. Talk about a player confused about our game plan. Why the need to play on every time? Not much he could do about some the passes to Hall, but did himself no favours when he won the ball.

- Simmo. First game in a long long time I've seen him turn it up.

- Houlihan. Princess was back.

- Robbo. Tried to replicate Houlihan and did it to a tee.

- Club? Embarassing display, lack of effort, lack of heart, lack of balls. Someone needs to take this team and deliver some home truths, Robert Walls we are calling you!!!!!!!

Hammer is unco, he is a poor ball handler and clumsy at ground level. He has straight line speed but not good lateral movement. He does not present as a natural fwd.
Posting an isolated example of him marking and goaling vs Cwood in a previous season means nothing.
You could make an equally impressive youtube highlights package for T-bird as a fwd.
Hammer also kicks poorly.

These delusions of him being a viable forward are bizzare given his current skill set.

I don't rate Hammer at all in case you have misread my post. The MC has delusions playing him IMO, even in the ruck.

Disagree.... Judd was poor tonight.

Gee Joseph is versatile.....small tagger and ruck

Pro:- we hit rock bottom. changes will be made. We know the only way out of this form is hard work. We need to claw our way out of the slump similar to the Dogs, Hawks, TIgers and Crows.

Cons:- there is a huge gap between 5 teams and the rest.
- Flakey older players that do have good games but also have really bad games and its time to bite the bullet with them even if it means we take a step backwards and miss the finals.

Did i mention how great it was that we held the ball up and chipped the ball around. Glad we did that, otherwise we could've lost by more than 10 goals.

.... hang on .... we did :banghead:

Pros:

* Army gave it his all. His hard at it, never say die attitude simply served to highlight what many of his teammates were lacking
* Russell and Walks battled on
* Gibbs tried hard with little support
* Hendo was doing it all forward and back, hope he's back next week
* Scottos post match assessment: the real disgust in his voice was obvious
* reality has set in. We're not a top 4 side and probably not a top 8 side (better than North and Adelaide??). Expectations lowered.

Cons:

* having highlighted Lake as a danger nobody (i) tried to drag him out of the play or (ii) kicked to the side of the ground where Lake was not sitting waiting to take yet another mark. Question: do the Carlton mids have Lake in their Supercoach team?? Killed me to watch us kick it long and high directly and often to the advantage of Mr. Brian Lake ... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
* TEAMWORK!!!: struggling to think of a worse team performance. Failing to work for each other, cover, work into space and present, tackle, .... holy cow ... Scotland said it best after the game: they were 22 individuals running around there today
* Setanta was insipid, beyond poor ... it's one thing to not win the ball, but to not apply any pressure or do anything to try and stop your man ... horrible game, needs a spell
* the whole midfield got cut up and didn't give a whimper

Tonight is what the doomsdayers were predicting when we arsed Fev for getting drunk.

What a trip!

Pros:
* I got nothing - sorry, not going to praise players that break even at best

Cons:
* Can't tackle
* Don't sheppard, knock on to advantage
* Too stagnant - don't spread the play / run into space when we have the ball
* Too slow to react when we lose the ball
* Don't chase or work hard enough
* We have very little mongrel, no hardness to make teams shiit themselves
* Poorly coached, tactically inept most of the time
* We have no structure most of the time which puts us under pressure and skill level suffers

**Cons apply to most games - even some of the ones we win

I hear you. I am happy we traded fev but when people ask me if carlton will miss him i always say we will miss him in the dark months mid to late in the season when he could turn games for us. Tonight was one of those occasions where a switched on Fev would have been handy.

Having a crack at Setanta is beyond belief. We went left, right, backwards, forwards, and then went with the long bomb when Setanta was outnumbered two and three at a time.No wonder he chucked in the sponge.I loved Brett Ratten as a player. And i reckon he has been OK as a coach. But the team has to make progress or it is sayonara Brett.I still reckon this side has got what it takes and can be in September action quite late. But we have no hope until Brett effs off all the coat pullers, lead by the ringleader Gregg Swann, and does it his way..............................if anyone thinks i have got it in for Gregg Swann you are correct.Great CEO,yes. But when it comes to footy,no idea.As they say, woudnt no a tram was up him unless it rang the bell.Number one priority for Sticks to sort out.Tell Swann to get back to the front office were he belongs or you will go down Sticks.Swann is nothing more than a treacle beak who doesnt know his place.

Setanta works his arse off.....running to the wrong spots. Dumb player. All he had to do was provide a contest against Lake. Either he wasn't instructed to or he didn't know how to.

True. But sure Carlton can do without the bit where he then goes and celebrates having carved a victory by vomitting on the Chinese foreign ministers car outside Crown Casino at 2am before touching up his wife who naively tries to help him up off the hood. Don't miss him AT ALL.

Cons:
Simon Verbeek and Mickstar are spot on:

Coaching Panel just can not take us beyond where we are.
They are destroying Setanta with their lack of forward set ups. He is no star but he the game plan kills him
We need to take a step back to take 2 forward and cull Thornton, Carrots and Houlihan. Better get games into Rohan Kerr, Casboult, Lucas.
Gibbs and Murphy are on big money and are just footballers

We could have used a player "like" fev then. A player that could turn games like fev.
