I agree, Army has not had a great 2 weeks but I wanna see him in the midfield. There's such speed and charisma about the way he plays and what better way to get him playing good footy then to throw him in the midfield rotations. Get him to throw his weight around. A bit like Robinson was doing at the start of the year.

Normally if a player comes in they get at least 2 weeks so I would think Grigg would get another go but it's no lock in.

I thought Army was v.impressive 2nd half vs Brions

Army was bobbing up and sprinting everywhere last week.
Was one of our best imo.
Those after burners are needed in the modern game and especially against the Doggies.

Grigg was that bad last week I wouldn't be surprised if the Blues reintroduced him against the WCE...to keep up with the pace.

Hammer has to play.

Tough game.

The Menace's pace is mind blowing - in one passage of play last week he actually ran past the Lions overlap causing the Lions player to handball it into Denis's back.

According to this article that's wrong as well.

The Match-ups I would go with FWIW:

Our forward-line:
THORNTON v Lake - Controversial maybe (especially given that he isn't in our best 22 IMO), but he is a defender by trade and can take a contested mark better than the other tall forwards.
HOULIHAN v Gilbee - I think Gilbee is more of a threat than Lake to be honest as Gilbee's disposals hurt the oppositions far more than Lake's do.
This will probably mean that Morris and Hargrave will take Hendo and Setanta but we can rotate these two with the three Little Helpers and get some mismatches as apart from Harbrow, I don't think that they have a matchup for all three of them unless Picken plays back (but I think he will go to Murph). I can possibly see Morris playing on Eddie a little bit, but Easton Wood and Rob Murphy are the other two that will probably play back and I like those matchups for Garlett and Yarran.

Our backline:
JAMO v Hall - Barry absent from the Footy Show due to illness. Will probably still play but might not be 100%
BOWER v Grant - Grant is deceptively quick
WALKER v Johnson - Not convinced Johnson will play but if he does I reckon Walks should try and run off him at every opportunity because Johnson is underdone.
JOSEPH v Higgins - Neither of them in great form...I would actually prefer Armfield OR Lucas to Joseph, but given that AJ is in the starting 18 (I would have him playing Bullants) this is the best match-up for him I think.
RUSSELL v Giansiracusa
ARMY/LUCAS v Stack - Not sure which one will play yet, but I think this will be the other match-up.

Midfield:
JUDD v Boyd - Pretty confident that Boyd will go to him.
MURPHY v Picken - Likewise
CARAZZO v Griffen - Carrots could go to Cooney, but if they try and free Griffen up by playing off half back I think Carrots follows him.
GIBBS v Cooney - Don't think this would happen, but would like to see Gibbs go head-to-head with Coons around the stoppages and then play an accountable role while in the midfield.

Leaves Simmo and Scotland against probably Cross and Ward.

Personally I think we are a bit top heavy - especially as they will play Hammer in the forward line at some point. I think Grigg and Robbo are competing for the same spot as are Armfield and Lucas (as much as I see both as being better options than AJ).

Not convinced Hammer will play, per presser Ratts rates Sammy's endurance. Maybe we use Carlos as a back-up ruck and put either T-Bird or Tex @ FF, both capable at playing the defensive fwd role on Lake. This could be why T-Bird kept his spot even though Bower comes back.

Carrots to Gilbee, thrashed him last time.

Tough game, but we rise to these games, what a cracker it should be.

If we wish to be treated as a serious player in the finals we need to win this game. Footscray are under pressure at the moment and will come 'ready to play' We need to have a good start and maintain 'focus' all day. Would like to see Carlos bag a few and Carrots continue what he did last week.

Dont agree re Armfield Josh. Thought he did an excellent job marking a dangerous Sherman who usually does damage against us. Shut him down well as did Carrots against Rich.

I would be disappointed if we retained Grigg. Looked out of sorts and this game is worth too much for us to persist to play him into some form.

Likewise cant see the logic in Wiggin's inclusion. Thought we have moved on from leading forwards with no goal sense. His defensive qualities are more than covered by our three brothers. It is more than likely that this will be his final year and we should be grooming for the future.

I would like to see Hampson retained purely for his ruckwork because it is in the middle where the game will be won. Hampson has a long way to go in terms of a football education but his tapwork and athleticism just gets him over the line until he learns to hold on to his marks. Dont want to see Thornton helping out in the ruck.

What worries me is that we are going into this game withoout any quality extractors to help Judd and Murph out.

The bulldogs are beatable but it depends on which Carlton turns up. If we give them a start in the first quarter, the game will be as good as over.

100% Ditto

Hopefully Scotto extracts a lot. He has the strength and body to help him extract.

I doubt Johnson will play for them. He was hobbling badly at the end of their match last week. With Hahn out and Hall ill that's a big chunk of their forward line missing.

I think we should leave Hampson in and run their only ruckman ragged. Lakes a good mark but he aint that tall. Hampson could cause trouble in the goal square. Lets hope he holds the marks!

Blues are good value this week might head down to the TAB.

Go Blues :fight:

Out: Grigg

Hmmmm......not sure about our selections at the moment? Getting away from the structure that worked so well earlier against Geelong & St Kilda. Grigg unlucky and I would of had Lucas in as well. Happy Bower is back though.

Just kick the thing long into the forward line, please!!!! :banghead:

I don't disagree, (if you'll excuse the double negative), but if you would've had Lucas in and possibly Grigg as well,
who would you've dropped?

Just curious.

So what's T-Bird going to do this week? Do not tell me Lake or I'll smash my monitor.

On Lake, the way you counter an obstacle is target the weakness, in Lake's case kick the ball to the contest low and hard, and if required make the ball land in front so the contest with Carlos becomes a ground level contest. Carlos has the upper hand in this scenario, as do his helpers.

Can't believe we are going in top heavy. The MC know something we don't? Jamo, Bower and T-Bird? Walker can play tall if needed.

Why are the Bulldogs playing Williams? Who cares really.

Lucas IMO should've been selected to give us more run, skill and ball winning ability.

They have Hall, Grant, Williams & Murphy who might all see action up forward in this line-up. Walker is needed to mind Johnson.

We've chanced our arm with Robbo, and it may pay off with a tall Dogs team. Bower certainly adds run over Grigg.

Johnson needs a carer to mind him and Williams is a very athletic looking person, not a footballer you put much time into. Murphy and Grant can be covered ny JR and Walker IMO.

If Hall is sick, hopefully he has given it to a few of his teammates as well. very rare for only one player to be infected with a virus.
