just after some opinions for where players are best suited in the long term
cos the way i see it we only have 3 pure long term forwards
hendo, betts and garlett

yarran = could absolutely carve up team with his class
waite = we have all seen what he can do as a swing defender and on the wing
gibbs = playing down back but should be in the midfeild
white = could be an option up forward as we have quite a few defenders coming through

(i dont rate ohailpin as a long term solution - just a fringe player getting his game time through injury)

I like the idea of the 3 Helpers having a turn in the guts in the future. Mix it up. Our elite mids can kick goals too.
I think there's no doubt that Waite is dangerous up forward if needed, but I like him around the wing to help out both ends.
Don't know about White...maybe.
Setanta is there till a better option comes up imo and Houla has only got a couple more seasons left in his career...imo.
I still reckon Hammer will be a great forward if groomed that way. It will all come together for him ruck and Fwd.

Casboult should make an impact at FF in a few years time; he's still 20yo a long way to go to be AFL ready
Donaldson is probably in the same boat as Casboult. He looks like he has a ton of potential too.
Kerr sound like he has a bit of class and good shot at goal, but still got a long way to go in terms of fitness requires to play seniors.

I think we have recruited fwds with the future in mind and considering the impact the concessions in the draft to GC17 and GWS.

There's a few combos with those suggestions, but unfortunately, no guarantees. Here's one for the future:

HF: Yarran Henderson Garlett
F: Donaldson/ Hammer Casboult Betts....A bit too tall? Then drop a big fella and add a smaller player....even Robinson

When we selected him I noted from player profiles that he was a short ruckman in WA at 195cm; same as Cloke only more mobile.
IMO he was a better long term 195ck prospect than Cloke at the time. I was glad to see Cloke delisted to say the least.
I haven't checked the CFC site, but I'm sure he's 195cm tall with a huge leap.
The footage of him in the drafting thread is . Watch it.

I watched him in the preseason and in an end to end drill between 2 teams and he stood out as very athletic and knows where to position himself. Good mark too. I believe he's been injured lately. Last weekend he kicked 3 in the Ants (red jumper )

He's still very raw and will need a couple more preseasons before he is considered for senior selection; skinny.
But yeah, he definetely a good HF prospect and if he can fill out.......world...oyster...

The way football is being played these days, you really only have 2 permanent forward talls. Third talls can be thrown down there to mix things up or take advantage of a mis-match.

To me, Henderson has CHF written all over him. He's still a couple of years away, but that's ok, so is the team as a whole.

I think that Yarran will eventually move into the midfield, or perhaps, as Dark Navy suggests, across half back. One of our weaknesses down back is that the attacking defenders like Russell and Walker don't have the type of disposal that regularly hurts teams, in the way that Hodge or Goddard, when they played across half back, did. Yarran could fill that role, but only if he can play the defensive part of the role as well.

Betts (who may get more run through the midfield) and Garlett are the obvious smalls. I think Robinson eventually will make HFF his own. Then it's about Houlihan and the other mids rotating through to compliment the forward half.

That leaves full forward, our big question mark going forward, IMO. As admirable as Setanta has been this year, I don't see him as the answer to FF, certainly not when we are playing Preliminary and Grand Finals. Whether Casboult or Donaldson can step up I have no idea, haven't seen either play. Fisher is not the answer. Waite could, but he is wasted there unless he starts kicking bags of goals, and I don't see that in him. I still reckon his most damaging position for us is the swingman wingman.

White? Austin? No idea if these guys can play forward. I think Jamison and Bower will be the 2 key backs (if Bower can get on the park!), with Walker taking the third tall. So White and Austin need to find somewhere else to play.

FF is the big remaining piece in the jigsaw. IMO, all other areas are developing nicely. Premiership window opens 2013. 2012 if we can find a FF in a hurry.
