All ACL's arent created equal.
I did my ACL playing footy at 19. Mine involved hyperextension but no lateral stress. As a result my cartilage and medial ligament were fine. So in my case I was ready to go after 9 months, and once I built up my confidence I dont figure like I lost any agility whatsoever.
If you compare this to Trent Hentschel's ACL where he also had medial ligament, cartilage and bone damage, they are night and day. Hentschel career was effectively over. Even at a young age.

Comparisons with Kouta are of the mark. Kouta had already had issues with that knee the previous year and was 28/29 so his powers were already diminishing.

Kruezer's comeback will depend on the diagnosis of the rest of the joint. There appeared to be considerable torsion so that could point to accompanying damage and slow his recovery. Given his age though, there is a good chance he will be back for the second half of next year A-ok. He will probably face some arthritic problems as he gets into the twilight of his career but that is well down the road.

An ACL rupture will not directly affect an athletes leap. It is possible that with a Hamstring graft power in the leg could be affected which could mean reduced speed or leap but lateral movement is the primary concern.

The fact that its his left knee is a real positive in my view. The two biggest problems after repair of ACL rupture are lateral movement and leap. Kouta lost his leap, no doubt about that, as many players do, when their dominant leg is affected. Almost all players jump off their dominant leg (his right). Waitey still appears to have a good leap because he did his left knee.

This may be a small positive to come out of a miserable situation.

Good luck Krooze

I think youll find right sided people jump off their left leg

I read that Matty's going for the conventional surgery using a graft from his patellar tendon.

Get well Kroooooz!

Krooze had patella graft due to acl tear, mcl damage but no rupture, medial meniscus tear and lateral menisectomy. Basically his knee was a mess and while he
may be back bigger and better it prob won't be in his first 12 months back

Quote:
“I’ll be back.” That’s the message Matthew Kreuzer has asked to be conveyed to all Carlton members and supporters, as the admirable young ruckman comes to terms with the serious knee injury that has put him out of football for the remainder of 2010.

Quote:
As for a return, Kreuzer’s cautiously optimistic. “It’s a bit premature to tell, but hopefully early next season is the go,” he said. “I’ll be doing everything possibly with the help of [Carlton High Performance Manager] Justin Cordy, Rehabilitation Coach Mark Homewood and all the fitness team and their rehab program, and hopefully I’ll be back better than ever next year.”

all i have to say is i love Kruez, quality kid and player. There are not many around like him. We have to be patient and let him recover. It could take longer than 12 months for him to get there. There better not be any 'lets trade him' posts!

Yeah it really did open up a bit on impact... good to see they've found plenty to nip in the bud.

you'll find a lot of the world's best cricketers are this way inclined. there's a theory that one should actually bat with the dominant hand as the top hand. hayden, langer, hussey, clarke, taylor, lara, tendulkar are all examples.

but back on topic, a right handed ruckman would have to jump off his left leg in order to protect his ribs with his right leg.

That's a bonus TB3 but as a rule, jumping off your left is a natural action that the body sub-consciously instigates for right handed people. Look at all the speccys taken over the years and the right leg is used to gain momentum into the air. It's usually the right knee that sits on the shoulder of the ground player.
