They thought the Carlton guy had "prior opportunity" to spit the gum before it went in their general direction.

Ever since Mark Weber called Victoria a "Nanny state", he's been proven correct over and over.

Now spitting out gum is a crime. I would have bet anything he wasnt spitting at the umps. Now if you are in the vicinity of AFL umpires, you have to look down, not make eye contact and not speak in case they report you for abuse.

Four weeks is a long suspension. But no-one can criticise the Blues for being soft on the matter.

Unfortunately, Bulldog Gilbert was fined $1000 for physical abuse to an umpire in 1997. That's twice in 27 years. Lift your game 'Uncle Bully'!

He will be shattered. Its been a tough month for him. Parkin giving him a big wrap on the telly should cheer him up. He will cop his wack for abusing the umps but would be happy that Parkin let viewers know that he didnt spit at anyone.
