If Pav is going to play half forward pushing into the middle i would have Gibbs on him. He plays that role consistently well and would sit well with the sort of balance we have had in our big wins this year. Pav will no doubt push forward so Gibbs will have to be at his best defensively and also try and hurt Pav the other way to get him worrying about Gibbs. Gibbs can refer to roles played on Goodes, Deledio and that geelong gun Chapman.

If Pav starts deep and stays deep then Bower.

Both option fit with our games style and team balance. If Gibbs has a good game i can see us winning this well.

I agree club.

Their other superstar Sandilands will be the other BIG problem. Massive challenge for whichever of our big guys gets the nod.
Freo will be up and about and this will be a good game I reckon. Will be happy with any sort of win.

One Tall and 4 runners replaced by Three Talls and two runners?

Why? Weren't we slow enough last week and given we are at Etihad again what are you trying to achieve?

Not that I necessarily agree with those changes, but Browne, Hadley and Robbo are not runners. Lucas, Yarran and Bower all are though.

Interesting to read most people's selections etc.

Why do people here purely worry about how we will match up on the opposition? How about worrying about the balance of our own side and how we can play the best football we can possibly play? Try and play the game on our terms.

People on here are worried about mental toughness, strength or similar yet they are also worried about how we match up to the opposition, what we will do to counter them etc. Not the way to go if you want to improve performance.

If we are mentally weak (which I don't agree with) or we want to get more consistent in our efforts then the best way is to concentrate on our own efforts. Do that and the rest will take care of itself.

Nice theory... In theory only.

No match ups? :donk:
I don't PURELY think about opposition match ups, I believe it's vitally important ....

I know your a psychologist and all and no doubt have coutless years of university study and maybe several degrees, so forgive my ignorance here.

How the hell does people on here talking about match ups have absolutely anything to do with the Carlton Football Club's performance on the ground? :?

when Thorton wasn't in the team.

Fair enough, I blame Thornton for the home insulation debacle

Yep I cursed Thornton today when the Pies came back and drew. Who does the bloke think he is??

I'm also blaming him for the Masterchef beef stroganoff debarcle ... nutmeg :hitcomputer:

Me too, I had them to win, by 15+ and by 25+.

It, along with seeing Brisbane get smashed was the only cheer I got from football over the long weekend!

Nutmeg was in the spirit of the World Cup, clearly the Judges didn't understand that.

No to Gibbs on Pavlich....struggled to play on Brad Green and Pavlich in basketball terms would just post him up and outmark him given his stronger build. Prefer to see Bower or maybe Walker get the job.

Stuggled on Green, has done well on Goodes, thrashed Deledio and beat Chapman. We won all them games including the Green game where Melbourne had to rearrange their whole forward line leaving walker to do as he pleased and sacrificed Greens midfield drive to play him deeper. I love it when opposition coaches start worrying about taking gibbs out of play or exposing him deep. We usually win.

I agree that Gibbs is good in the midfield and would probably be one of our better players if played there but it would lesson our chance of winning the game in my opinion.

We will have to agree to disagree on that one and leave it to the experts who have loads more info than we do.

..i wouldn't hold too much weight for that Gibbs vs Goodes performance.. ..Goodes was clearly hampered, and still kicked a few.. ..Gibbs is versatile yes, but he's much better in some positions than others, and he sucks when played very deep in defense.... ..if one of your better/premier players gets dragged deep by the oppositions forward, thats more a win for them than us in my book.. ..

Until we win the game which we have a knack of doing when coaches try this tactic.

Magic 8 Ball says:

Q. Will Carlton beat Fremantle this week?
A. DON'T COUNT ON IT.

Q. Will Hendo get a call-up at Setanta's expense?
A. SIGNS POINT TO YES.

Q. How about Chris Yarran. Will he play?
A. OUTLOOK GOOD.

Sounds like it'll be a tight game, with at least a couple of inclusions.

Trouble was, last week I cheated with it. First question I asked was "will we win?" and it said NO. So I ignored that, and started asking it about margins.

Lesson learned. You don't mess with the 8 Ball.

OK! Ratts has forecasted at least a possible 4 changes this week YAY! - Time to go nuts on the magnets!

Personally, I would Bring in Bower, Lucas, Fisher, Yarran, Henderson, Hampson

Our forward structure really sucked last week, a forward line of Waite and Fisher deep, with Yazz/Betts/Garlett at their feet, with Hendo at CHF would really give us a contant marking target in the forward line.

Fisher and Hendo can also lead forward and provide good linking options, clearing space for 1-1 with Waite marking, or the little fellas running towards goal. Would love it if they were persisted with.

Lucas to play HBF, way better kicking skills than AJ!

Hampson has had a great run in the 2's, would love to see him team up with Kreuz to be the dynamic duo - Sauce has been good this year tho, but would love to see hammers leap against sandilands.

For mine the outs are: Robinson, Setanta, Browne, AJ, Thornton, Jacobs

GO TEAM!

..we've won some, we've also lost some that way too.. ..also note i'm talkin' about when the Gibblet gets dragged deep.. ..that big fat juicy 45 possie game he had vs WC he got the bulk of possession in the midfield, he wasn't played ultra deep all game.. ..Gibbs playing very deep defense/FB isn't a genius match winning move..

On form Kreuzer should probably be out rather than Jacobs.
