Insipid perfomance. The warning signs were there all week. The whole football world knew that North would come out blazing except our players. Once again it comes down to attitude and a desire to put bodies on the line. There was none of that tonight.

Anyone know the situation with Betts and Judd. It was reported that they limped off.

Without doubt the most disappointing loss of the season.

Yep. So pissed off with the boys tonight.

For me the pros were Hadley's in and under work, Garlett's continuing improvement and confidence and the return to form of Eddie.

The negatives were Russell's awful game and the way he just crumbled and Ratten's stubborn refusal to make the move which eventually broke him in the end.

Don't even get me started on Bryce Gibbs. Every time he was in the middle for the centre bounce we seemed to be winning the contest, he was literally unstoppable. As soon as he went out we got thumped again.

I thought Murphy tried really hard.

Halfway through the third quarter I started wondering if it should be Kreuzer who makes way for 206. Without Sauce in the ruck we seemed to have no chance.

Umpiring and TV commentary were so biased I felt like puking from the 5 minute mark to the end.

And then rant about Carlton losing because we didn't have enough left field selections.

North were the better team on the night because they wanted it more.

Yes, well, how do we learn to want it more then? I thought the whole point of being able to win was that you did things better than the opposition. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, be it the coaching or the players. Let's just continue to learn from the the experience until we work out that many sides are just better than us after all. As long as we acknowledge it, I'm happy. Sheesh...! :?

Our results are driven by our state of mind.

The psychologist(s) are the most important staff members at Carlton in 2010. We only beat ourselves, by turning up with a lack of intensity. It's not that we don't try, but we just don't play at the tempo we need to be playing at with this group of players to succeed at this time.

I'm just pissed that Lindsay Thomas kicked 7 goals, no words can describe that. JR and AJ are two of my favourites, but they should be shovelling shit up hill during the break to atone for that result :banghead:

I dont get it Paf. Are you venting?

Kangas were getting flogged a few weeks back but tonight they were very good. I think if we are honest with ourselves and try out guts out in repairing the areas in which we failed in tonight we too can turn our form around.

We seem to play much better when we are hunting rather than being hunted.

I think that it was just one of those nights when nothing seems to work.

Frees go against us... all year umps have been paying holding the ball for players dragging the ball into them, tonight they paid in the back.

We were always in striking distance to them, but just could not get a smooth flowing game going.

North were pretty good and led us a merry dance for most of the night.

Kangas were absolute @#$%&! rubbish; we were worse. They watched the Hawthorn game and played their own version. We were again listless because we do not instinctively spread from the contest, and do not instinctively block for each other, and this opens up opportunities for teams to pressure us like crazy.

When we didn't have the ball we rolled back too quickly, allowing North time and space to allow for leads to present, and the ball to be delivered. Our defensive work, particularly at stoppages, was well down. Three goals were conceded from stoppages in North's forward line, purely because players (particularly Joseph) weren't prepared to face away from the goal, and stand goal side of their opponent to block a simple run.

The whole first quarter rot, awful and myopic umpiring aside, could have been stymied by encouraging the players to knock on at every opportunity, and for our boys to time their runs forward in line with this. North were all too happy to smash it forward while we tried to secure clean possession amongst the mayhem.

Deplorable by our boys, but poor from Ratts who should be educating them in how to combat when the tempo gets turned up so high that there's more fumbles than gathers, and if he has then it's poor for not instructing them to use such a tactic.

Oh and a big cheerio to Scott "Showtime" McLaren, Brent "They're thugs; *whacks a bloke in the face then cops one back* see?! He hit me!" Harvey and Brad "14 man back line in the last quarter" Scott. @#$%&!.

lacked intensity
blind kicking
way too many turnovers
not enough tackling
immature
failed. again.

out:
browne, thornton, (not up to it)
setanta, aj (need to regain form)
in: bower, lucas, henderson, yarran

don't think hadley did enough to get dropped. not sure they will drop thornton but think they should. we just don't play as well when he's in the team.
i also think setanta plays better when thornton not in the team cos the ball comes in faster.

betts looked to have jarred his knee. judd looked to cop it when he got slammed. don't know any more than what i saw, though.
judd will heal himself and be right for fremantle.

Absolutely disgraceful......
WTF
Why wasnt Army tried on Thomas, he killed everyone else...
Fwd line had no function/plan wat so ever, Ratts would be spewin he didn put Hendo in.
Everytime we got a clearance, we had to hold the ball and wait for runners instead of kickin it to a lead.
Alot of bad decisions from umps but also alot of people gettin caught being ridculously unaware.
Setants has been woeful for a few weeks now, like his pressure usually but he lacked even that tonight.
Its not rocket science when Harvey bursts away towards the 50 and goes for goal, why did we run beside him and caralle him, leave your opponent and put the pressure on, id rather see him handball it over the top to another guy than run in pressureless........

It didn't cost us the game, but one area I'd like the club to address is more rapidly adjusting
to the "rules of the night". No one will ever convince me that all games are umpired the same.
The umps clearly have certain focuses and we need to get on top of that earlier.

It was painfully obvious very early that they were going to conjour up frees for seemingly every
trivial off the ball contact. So what do we do? We keep trying to play the tough
guys and we keep giving away frees.

The other area I hope they look at is how the hell we can dominate the clearances like that and
still lose.

I wouldn't worry too much about the personnel though. Most of them have been good the past couple
of weeks. O'Halpin does worry me though. That's about 3 or 4 poor ones in a row.

Ouch, that hurt BIG time. I hate to pot players and try my best to see the positives from each game but a couple stood out like beacons tonight.

Mr Browne, I wish like nothing else you could produce something to prove you're at AFL standard but you look 10% off the mark and unfortunately at this level that's just too much
Setanta, running under the ball.......
AJ looks tired and maybe a week off (not bullants) would do him some good.

That said Freo are a new side, we play them here and any signs off superiority should have been shaken well and truly loose tonight
