Ratten coached well today but the playing group was just shameful unfortunately for him.

Believe it or not, the article in the Herald Sun I reckon spurred the umpires into having the
worst showing I've seen this season, surely heads must roll for that.

Credit to North they were pumped up and rebounded beautifully out of defense, and we did
everything to help them

Scotto, Carlos, Garlett out of a bit of form, lets hope they hit it pretty darn soon or they'll
be in the magoos.

IN: Bower, Lucas, Yarran, Grigg, Henderson**
OUT: Thornton, Browne, Hadley, Scotland, O'hAilpin**

** = pencil it in

Scotland has been in our best 5 this year, riduclous to suggest he would be dropped .

I'm as disappointed as anyone that we have these mental fade outs, but overall the team is progressing well.

We need to sort out the mental side to our game and also need to keep developing our forward structure which has been flat for a few games now.

I think the forward line worked best when all 3 Amigos played. Might be that having 3 small fast forwards is too much for most defenses.

We are 20+ games off getting the:

Russell
Armfield
Joseph
Garlett
Browne

And others match hardened to take the pressure week in week out.

We will play finals but it is unrealistic for our supporters to believe they are ready.

They arent!

But they will be.

Our average losing margin before this game was 35.50 points.

The worst for any of the top eight teams.

Only Adelaide, North and Richmond have conceded more points in a defeat.

Still a long way to go.

Fare call Camel. My concern is that with professional footballers and support staff we turn up and play insipid tripe like that tonight.

The players wouldn't read it because they're too busy mucking around with Rusty's corner and Jamo's junk. :screwy:

Pretty much, put pressure on us, flood our forward to get the numbers to their advantage, leaving their forward open and when you they get the ball run hard as they can as they know we are downhill skiers..
We allowed them so much time and space, no pressure at all...

Indeed. As I've said, too big a gap between our best and our worst.

People can rationalise all they want but imho there is no excusing performances like tonight. Happens all too frequently.

Hard to argue with the 'downhill skiers' label too. Hit the Blues hard and they've got nothing. It's the ultimate insult to a football side yet evidently we don't seem to care or want to do much about it.

Without doubt the most disappointing loss of the season.

Soft,
undisciplined
we looked tired after the slog in the wet last week - we weren't prepared well
push in the back rule - kangas must have got a heads up it was the focus rule for the week.
Ratts said he wanted to play a more bold syle of footy in the last qtr but we didn't - we still played the flanks - use the corridor, dispose quickly after a free kick, we always took our time and allowed them to flood back.
we were too slow in every aspect
armfield coming back was underdone , he didn't show any flash tonight.
AJ needs a rest, played dumb footy, got caught ball watching and allowed Lindsay to kick an easy one. why isn't he being used as a run with, seems to be struggling a bit this year IMO.

I think we will see a lot of changes next week, Bower, Yarran , Hendo and Lucas , perhaps Mclean , out - browne, Irish, AJ, Robinson and Hadley hurt also.

however maybe not, the MC doesn't like to take risks.........maybe this has rubbed off on the team ?

I think that you are correct on this mikkey.

The ability to withstand this sort of pressure will come about next year with another seasons experience behind us.

Pity it hurts so much seeing us fold like that now :(

as much structural weakness as mental weakness !

at 3/4 time, we had won 38 clearances to 17....that is a monumental difference.

however when we won the ball we had nowhere to go....in a similar way to Essendon*, the kangas pushed up on us not allowing us play on with handball or find our short hit up target..they compressed their zone...almost daring us to kick long...

so what did we do....run wide to the bounday for easy kicks...which just let them set their zone again!

what is disappointing and frustrating is that we don;t seem to have an answer when a team plays like that and compresses their zone and "owns the centre corridor"

this is not ratten bashing.... but I think this responsibility lies as much with the coaching committee as the players !!!

poor night from the boys in the box.

Disappointing

My mate is gawn 4 possessions to night and failed to present

Stop wasting time Carlton time to move on another rethink required we can't have Betts as the focal target and shifting kruez forward robs you around the ground

we needed to move SOS from full back to full forward

And FFS get Maclean back in and bower

My goodness that was painful. There goes the weekend. That effort was deplorable. We can play good footy, but our bad is horrific. It was like watching the hawthorn or Essendon* games.

Haven't seen the game yet admitedly, only had the radio call but it sure as hell sounds like we were not hard enough and certainly not desperate enough. I daresay a few fringe players will get a go next weekend.

Um...I would have thought that some of them may have already been out there and now we'll be hopping to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Put the rivalry aside. Pound for pound, this is our worst.

Yep.

We just have to hope the coaching staff is working on ways to resolve these issues. Is it simply that we do believe hype? Is it that we still need a few more games for the players to develop the required toughness? If we take a step back is our side progressing as well as any independent observer would expect?
