I'm sure you've all noticed that whenever Judd is on the bench he has two water bottles, one with a blue top and one black.
What does he have in them?

Blue = bourbon
Black = Coke?

Well spotted Wojee
The short answer: "Anything he wants"
The long answer (my guess): Plain water in one, glucose electrolyte solution (eg powerade) in the other.

Drinking powerade continuously during endurance sport provides a little too much salt and sugar. For a guy who runs 12km plus per game the need is for extra water.

Bottle 1: Diluted Powerade
Bottle 2: The freshly wilted and bitter tears of opposition supporters

One Water and one Powerade is correct.

We were always told to drink a combination of both

I just always thought it was a habit he developed since before he played in the AFL.

But if one is powerade and one is water, why don't we notice other players doing it?

They're not as obsessive about oral hygiene?

I believe Wolfister is the only guy qualifies to answer this.

I always thought it was so Robert Harvey could hold one and have something to do while he walked the boundary with Judd.

No really we were always told they powerade and water play different roles.
i think something along the lines of powerade gives you energy but the high levels of sugar (and whatever else they put in it) can slightly dehydrate the muscles and can cause you to feel kind of feint and dizzy when the body is working hard. Something along those lines I think? I wasn't really listening :oops:

The sugar intake would stimulate metabolic process which would generate some heat, thus slightly dehydrating you, but the greater concern is not overdoing the salt intake as that can draw water out of cells through osmosis when too high.

In addition, excess salt in the gut is a superb way of causing one's self to empty their stomach contents, which would be pretty easy when you've been taxing yourself out on the field and building up lactic acid.

I'm assuming that these guys are consuming a hypertonic sports drink. If it were Powerade Isotonic, for example, the idea behind that is to replace what you're sweating out with something of very similar concentration of water, sugars & electrolytes (i.e. salts).

Well whatever the actual reason is that is what's in the two bottles.

Yes I've always wondered about Juddy's two water bottles, ever since I saw this:

My understanding is that Chris Judd is regular user of this drink additive - http://www.pineneedleproducts.com/pages/siberian-red - as well as their sauna product. He may do this personally/individually outside whatever arrangement the club has with PowerAde.

These were two products apparently introduced to St Kilda by naturopath Dr Vagif Soultanov during era of Grant Thomas.

I understand Rob Harvey may have recommended them to Judd back in his WCE days when Judd asked Harvey for advice on recovery from groin issues or whatever it was.

Sounds like a quack effort to me given it provides zero references, but more importantly: Judd has a personal sponsorship with Powerade.

I think every player has a choice and both type of drinks are available for everyone.

But why does Judd need to hold 2 bottles on each hand at the same time??

Thank-you gents...

As you know, Juddy is all about recycling, and as part of his ongoing commitment to the cause what he takes from one bottle, he gives to the other. This is then distributed amongst those around the club less fortunate than Judd, in the hope that some Juddness will rub off on them.

Wolf out.
