Just noticed this graphic on OneHD. Ignore the name on top, check out how heavily Carlton feature in the list of contested football. Probably doesn't mean much when all is said and done, but an interesting observation all the same.

Saw it on Fox before. The fact that Koutoufides features so prominently in that list in 2000 shows how majestic he was that year. One of the best seasons I've seen by a player. He won the MVP as voted for by the players, but it still has me buggered why he didn't win the brownlow (I suppose missing a few games towards the end because of injury doesn't help too much though).

Interesting stats nonetheless.

Also interesting to see Judd was winning so much contested footy at West Coast as well. We tend to think we're burning him out with the amount of footy he needs to win.

I think that game was one of Judd's best for the Eagles. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he kick 5 goals from the midfield?

Yeah, we're going to shorten his career. He's almost played 200 so with all the contested footy he has to play for Carlton he has no hope of getting to 400.

Nah, that game was actually in 2003.

Technically you earn a hard ball get or contested possession if you secure possession inside a pack and burst out the other side, even if no one touches you, unless of course the pack parts like the Red Sea. ;)

That also accounts for two of Kouta's games on that list.

That North Melbourne game of Kouta's was one of the greatest games by a single player I've seen.

My brother had $100 (or it might have been $150) on Kouta at 66/1 for 2000 Brownlow pre-Xmas 1999.

Thought he had it in the bag till Mark Johnson (?) killed Bambi.

It was Jason Johnson KKK. The man who now prepares meals for the boys every day.
As for Judd, 4 clearances in the first 10 minutes of the 4th quarter was a phenomenal effort. When the team needs a lift or is under pressure, it's amazing how often he can drag us along with him.

I know many hate talking about them, but would be interested to know how many supercoach or similar ranking points Kouta would have scored in that 2000 game against Norf.

So that's why the boys played so badly against the Bombers.

For me it was actually his performance 3 weeks earlier against the Swans.

39 possies saw Paul Roos equate him to Superman with his 3rd Q in particular being described by Kernahan as the best quarter of footy he's ever seen anyone produce.

I remember - during that 3rd Q - having the distinct impression literally of a man playing against boys.

Good to see McLean ranked 32 in the league for average contested possessions this year.

Interesting that Judd is ranked 1st for turnovers, 8th for critical errors and 18th for skill errors. I'm sure he'd acknowledge that he's butchered it this year.
