Greg Swan was on radio yesterday and spoke glowingly of Hampson and was asked if he is on the GC radar to which Swanny replied he is contracted unless they make us an offer we cant refuse

An offer 'we can't refuse' would have to be a MASSIVE offer.

Can't see it happening, don't want to see it happening.

God, some of you blokes are all trees and no forests! :? If he's really is going to be that good or if we really couldn't refuse the offer then shouldn't we be happy either way? In actual fact, if they really made us that kind of offer and we did, indeed, refuse it then I'd be livid.

Hampster has too much going for him to give him away.....even for a first rounder. He'll bite us on the harse if we let him go.
Love Sauce but think he'll be the most likely to find greener pastures for himself.
We were impatient in getting Warnock and are paying the price for it. If anything , he is the excess we have ! :banghead:

Not when there is liver involved.

Seriously though, if he stays, we have a mobile Ruckmen who can pinch-hit up forward. Otherwise, he's contracted and we get to set the terms - win-win. I just find it a little sad that conservation gets more attention than development or progress around these parts.

Agreed.

Carlton should have taken pick nine, then drafted Panos and Daw with picks nine and 12.

I love how you want all these guys with potential, yet the gifted Hampson is expendable if we're offered a new and shiny draft pick.

If you were more malicious and less fundamentalist in your view on footy, I'd say you were trolling.

Why is having 4 ruckman on the list excessive??

Yep, however, having four Ruckmen on your list is probably about right, it's just that our's are all still developing and most have 'upside'. Yet there is a definable hierarchy and I think it would be tactically wise to offer one up for trade. I think some of us will be surprised what some clubs would offer us for Jacobs. Is he still a rookie or is he on our senior list and can you trade them on the same year they were upgraded?

I can do malice if you want. :? You are the one taking the hard line. I didn't say we should trade him, simply suggesting that some do not know the implications of "an offer that we can't refuse".

I think we can all forget about such a scenario.

GC picked up some mature aged players last year, they will get what they get in terms of uncontracted players, maybe a mature player in the PSD and some more in the rookie draft.

They want to play a lot of their kids in the the 1's from day dot.

They won't be offering any club significant "overs" for any player.

I can't see them trading a 1st round pick.

You were a bit late, CM, but quite frankly, I "couldn't" care less.

If you have two playing in the 2's every week Vs the option of trading one for a specific need e.g a key position player
then this should be seriously considered.
Whilst Hampson has some talent, he is seriously over-rated on this board, and if a top 5/6 selection was offered in a draft that has a
good offering of key position talent it would be irresponsible to not consider this option.
l personally rate Hampson above Warnock, but do not see him being traded after the strong drive to recruit him which was misguided.
The reality is that it is only a matter of time until one wishes to move on for improved opportunities, and we need to maximize what
we can get back in return, e.g high draft pick or part of trade for a player of quality.
