The 50m was a joke as well.

It was a mark; nothing more, nothing less.

Not a chance; it'll be throw out before it even reaches the tribunal.

I hope so Lurker, I thought he was going for the mark (no replay shown at the ground). He needs the Hille Defence.

Gerald Waitely on ABC said he was looking at weeks  .

Gerard Whatley, like Waite, is very talented but suffers from brain fades.
Waite will get off.

Apart from a sloppy 3rd qtr, in which not only Ando but most were lost in the conditions, I thought is was terrific team performance that showed discipline, good skills and process.

Well done to the MC once again for good selection and preparation.

A special mention for Hads who is a terrific presence in the heat of the battle for his team mates, Houlihan who has found consistency in his current role and AJ who is maturing into really solid team contributor.

I agree, it was a joke. Saw a replay when i got home.
Having said that what are the odds he gets suspended.
Good win in terrible conditions.
Sadly Anderson is not up to it.

A good hard fought win in atrocious conditions for the most part. Glad we were able to get 7 goals on the board in the first term before the rain came down to ensure Melbourne would have a hard task ahead of them.

One gripe on the game was the umpiring. For mine it was a disgrace. The boys weren't switched on in the third term but getting crucified by the maggots didn't help our cause either. There were some shocking calls, and a few of them resulted in a Melbourne goal.

Was great to see the team challenged after halftime though and respond accordingly; Melbourne pegged the margin back to 19 points and a goal would have had us well and truly on the ropes. The last quarter everyone stood up and it showed on the scoreboard.

Full of merit, that win.

Was great to see the dees come out and try to get physical, only for our boys to play the ball with discipline and blow them away inside of 15 minutes.

A sold win. Nothing special, but an honest performance. Good to see.

Interesting too, to see how we went in the rain. Signs weren't good in Q3, but they figured it out eventually. And now back under the roof for the next month.

Waite shouldn't go, but I don't trust the tribunal at all.

How will we be a game inside the 4?
Geelong
St Kilda
Fremantle
Collingwood
Carton
Does not compute!
A game inside the 5?
Either way the fact that one of the dogs or pies have to lose is good for Carlton.
We're all competing for top 4. Collingwoods not guaranteed to make it either.
I think we can take Freo's spot. They have Saints next week, then we play them the week after. If they lose to Saints, we beat North, then beat Freo the week after we will leapfrog them

I smiled for a second when Essendon* beat St Kilda, so I guess I'm in no position to criticise

Probably a question for any of the Melbourne people who might read this, but why aren't the Dee's playing a second ruckmen?

I know it was a wet day, but are their big blokes injured or something? I just would have thought that if you were developing a team for the future, why not a second ruck. It risks injuries to these non rucks as well who aren't used to the techniques involved.

I'm a bit bemused, but not for the first time in my life

Agree with JohnM and Sydney Blue, except i thought it was a solid win myself  . Some comments from being at the game:
- this game was the reverse of the collingwood game. They spent all their tickets getting to within 3 goals today before we classily pushed it out to 40pts.
- melbourne fans know a lot about umpiring, and comment very little about football. What a bunch of whingers.
- Hotlips: awesome first quarter, great to have him back. And goal of the day in traffic in the third.
- wet weather really rested us for some reason. Was a cake of soap for us up until half way through last quarter when Murph and Judd ruled supreme.
- Gibbs wasted on Green, and bad match up.
- Waite can't go for that. I was behind it (not a great kick from Thornton) and he was going for the mark until the last moment. What can you do when you're 2 metres in the air besides keep you elbows in as he did this time????
- Irish looked tired and a bit befuddled. May get a rest for Hendo next week. But otherewise had an awesome first half of the season. Well done Setanta!
- play of the day: Q4, free kick jacobs in the centre, big punt to Waite past 50m, tap onto Betts, goal. Footy looks simple!

Sitting nicely blues! Bring on the Kangas.

I'll also take a 7 goal win against Melbourne any day of the week. Loomed as a danger game but logic says we are far better than them, and so it proved. Gotta be happy with that.

Interesting to see who stood out when the rain came. Walker, Simpson, Murphy, Judd, Jacobs, Russell all showed superior handling of the wet ball. Some of the others really had no idea, dropped chest marks the rule rather than the exception. Just shows how rarely the modern game is played in poor conditions, and how little practice they get at strategy and wet weather skills.

One gripe please, and his name is Michael Vozzo! If this goose isnt the worst and most obnoxious umpire in league ranks I'd like to know who is. Worse than Ray Chamberlain. He insists on imposing himself on the game, provoking and infuriating players (not to mention spectators), paying soft free kicks out of context with the feel of the game and the conditions, and interrupting the flow by overumpiring. Melbourne supporters near me were annoyed with him too. Vozzo you are an absolute goose.

Go blues

Good margin in the end but I'm still disappointed by the efforts of Anderson & Hadley (17 possessions, 3 tackles & completely dominated by Melbourne's engine room).

Hadley in particular has the task of getting in the thick of it and releasing Judd. This didn't happen often at all. Got outside a little bit more often before the rain set in, but not a good enough performance in my opinion.

I need to have a look at the replay, but being at the game I thought Ando was pretty good until the rain came. I agree he didn't adapt well to it, but it's also conditions we will very rarely face. I wouldn't sack him on today, though he might be under pressure for his spot given how many good players are waiting in the wings.

Was OK, but clearly not in our best 22.

Who was doing special comments today? Was it Harley?
Because before the game he showed his teams that COULD NOT win the flag.
We were there, and Brisbane were not.
Surprised me, to be honest.
If i had to put my house on us or Bris winning the flag I would honestly go for us.
They're gettin a royal touch up from the roos at the moment too.
