Now that we have established a ruck combination with Warnock backing up what happens to Hammo?
Obviously Gold Coast is option 1, but what would they offer for him...?
A second round pick???

Any thoughts?

Hampson & Thornton to the Hawks for ???

That would be the obvious trade i'd be looking at considering the Hawks need a Ruckman and Defender only question is what would we get in terms of compensation.

I wouldn't be touching that. We got him with a high second round pick, and apparently Port were considering giving pick 9 for him last year. I think he's worth about that, depending on the strength of the draft. If he can force his way into the team and show some good form, he could be worth more than that.

Hampson is worth more than anyone will pay for him.

They won't offer anything.

They'll take what they want, and the AFL will determine what we'll get.

I don't reckon GC will trade much in the way of early picks.

Hampson is contracted, so they can't just take him.

GC have to use picks 1,2 & 3 in the draft. Their other picks can be traded, so they've got lots.

IMO, as it stands, Hammertime is our no. 2 ruckman behind krooooooz.
Close with Jacobs who has been great since coming in and improved ou of sight, taking some strong grabs too.
But Hammer just offers that potential that he could be anything.
IMO Warnock was a little disappointing when he was in.. i know he's had a long time out, but as it stands he is our 4th placed ruckman.
We traded pick 24 for Warnock. I would not consider trading Hammer for much less than a top 10-12 pick as I believe he has massive potential.
When fully fit, I can't see how he can be left out of our side

To answer your question...I would say he's definitely worth a first round pick to the Gold Coast as I'm sure they don't want to be throwing a 18 year old kid into the ruck in his debut season.

However there's no way I would trade Hampson at the moment and neither would the club I suspect.

I reckon he's going to be a very good player and to trade him now would be stupid considering what he'll be worth in a few years from now. He was always a project player having come from a soccer background, he hasn't come close to reaching his potential yet.

I'd be hanging onto all our ruckmen for as long as we can. I can eventually see one of them becoming frustrated at the lack of opportunities they're getting and seeking a trade which is fair enough but until that happens I wouldn't be going out seeking a trade just yet.

Reckon Hampson may well end up being a full forward, anyway.

Gets injured and then people want to trade him ??

The club know what they have with Hampson. Cant see him going anywhere.

he is a superior athlete

id love him to turn into a forward
his natural athletisim is priceless

Thanks for answering the initial question.... :thanks:
this was not intended to determine Hammo's ability or question his capabilities.....

Realistically, GC are going to need a ruckman....
We have a player that holds currency.... I'd seriously consider a 1st round pick for him ... i'd hum over a second round.

I would laugh at a second round.
Hammer was pick 20 odd, we have put 3 years development into him and players with his height and athletisicm are rare.

I am more worried about losing Sauce for next to nothing to GC next year as a 250K - 350k contract + first ruck position might be hard to refuse.

I just hope he is scoring well in our b & F this year.

Sauce would look funny walking up Surfers Paradise beach in a thong.

If I was Clayton I would be more into Sauce than Grigg
