Pretty sure we made a GF and the crows won 2 flags.

Very quickly on this subject, what was the lowest position a team has been in the top 8 and won the GF. Pretty sure it was Adelaide,
and I think they were sitting 7th after the home and away rounds.

Is this correct ?

I don't think that's entirely true.

Didn't we make the Granny in 99 after finishing 5th? Where were Adelaide in 1997-8?

Oh, Good. I was wondering about that.

On current form we would be the 3rd best side in the comp behind Geelong and Collingwood so yeah we're a contender.

We would need to do a Baby Bombers 93 thing

I think once Riewoldt returns, and Brown/Fevola get fit, the Saints and Lions will start winning games.

Long way to go folks

Zing!

AND, we have beaten Cats past two games EASILY.

Pies v Blues GF is some chance.

Not convinced about the Cats this year, the Pies are set to really give it to them IMHO.

before the season started, I thought we would be doing well to win 4 out of the first half and then show some marked improvement in the second half of the season and maybe just make the eight, though a top 4 finish is where the real chance is.

here we are 5/8 and a chance to maybe finish 7-8/11 .... I still hold firm we will have a better second half, so are we looking at 17-18/22 and a top four finish after the H&A amongst a relatively even set of competitors ???? .... I hope so ... but best I take it one week at a time ......

Competition is about as even as it is going to be - So given the right circumstances yes we are a chance

This week if games go the way I think they will we could have a situation where positions 2 to 8 on the ladder are only seperated by % - Everyone of those teams would be giving themselves a chance

Should have said, since the introduction of the CURRENT Top 8.

Since they changed from the Mcintyre System, no team outside Top 4 has made a GF.

Yeah, but, we have only changed from the McIntyre system since 2000, and since then there has been pretty dominant premiers.. This year just may be different.

i thin yaz and gibbsy's comments about us possibly winning a flag in '10 come at a time when membership cutoff dates are approaching and our numbers are slightly disappointing considering where we are and the membership numbers of last year.

coincidence? i think not

Crows won from 5th in 1998 and we made the GF from 6th in 1999 (with the old final 8 system).

I do agree without top 4 making a GF is very unlikely for any side.

I think the pre-season cost us a few thousand members and we should just take it on the chin.

I think they'll return when that stuff is forgotten and its all about the good stuff. Im not sure it makes a lot of sense to sign up past Round 8 does it (depends on home game split?)

I don't think that's entirely true.

In fact, it's entirely bullshit (the suggestion that you have to make the top 4).
Of course, the Final 8 itself is also entirely bullshit.

I think we are still a couple of players short of a premiership side.

Now if we can lure Sticks, Jezza, Diesel, and Doull out of retirement, I would bet the house on it.

Blues 6th in '99.

Crows 4th in '97, 5th in '98.
