We would need to get our best team in by round 14 and stick close to that week by week until the GF.

In other words we need a lot of luck.

We are good enough at our best but i am not sure we are ready to produce our best enough to win it.

FIngers crossed though.

We can only dream.
Its possible, depending on injuries and a bit of luck.
It may be one of those years when its wide open.

absolutely though whilst our players are still developing their bodies/games, it will be dependant upon who we are up against. We match up well enough against the cats, saints, dogs that I'd be confident going into a game against them in the finals. The pies would be another matter...

Please. Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

We will absolutely NOT win the flag this year. No chance.

A prelim would be a win of epic proportions and beyond my wildest dreams coming into the season.

Too early to say - you need to peak at the right time of the year to snag a flag.

I'd say the next 3rd of the season is our most important and challenging one, purely because we are getting injuries and suspensions, and we are playing teams that we will be expected to beat because of our great start to the season and the teams we've knocked off (Geel, StK, Port).

By the last 3rd of the season, we would hope to be fielding close to our best side for the year for a tilt at finals (possibly top 4), and then a new season starts - IN SEPTEMBER.

The key for us is our resilience mentally, and injuries.

Top 4 maybe, but flag no. We are not ready yet, but next year we could give it a serious crack and 2012-15 is our window.

On a personal level I bloody hope not because I will be in Europe from late July and not coming back till Friday after the grand final. I want to be there when we win number 17.

Agree. I've always taken threads like "can we win a flag this year" and "how many in a row can we win" as fun threads. Fun, positive and kiddish (maybe) topics.

my answer to both were yes and 9. I don't seriously think it'll happen though (maybe).

+1 I wish Yazz and Gibbs would keep it to themselves. We can, but getting this far ahead of ourselves with a young team could also set us up for a fall. A few more humble comments instead would be better. Wait until Bower / Walker are back and at full strength. Huge way to go in the season. Leave these types of comments for Maxwell to make.

of course we "can", but as in the opposite of we "can't".... If that makes sense.
To say we can't, ie it is impossible, would be stupid, so yeah we can, we just most likely won't.

Sportingbet has us at $13 Dollars.

They don't pay $13 for something that "can't" happen
They pay $1001 for Kepler Bradley winning the Brownlow, something that can't happen.

The problem is still Geelong, who I believe are still are a class above the rest including Collingwood.
So yeah of course we are a chance, just a very outside one!
But still, it's fun thinking there is chance, however slight it may be!

Well, it seems that it is fun for some, and aggravating for others!
For those it upsets, look guys,I don't think there are any (ok..maybe the odd nutter) who have any expectation of a flag this year..
if you are worried about comments by players setting us up for a fall...
would you really rather they didn't dare to dream big??? seriously?
I think they can afford to be cheeky precisely because we are not really seen as a contender yet.
If you think we, as supporters shouldn't even mention it...is it because you think that is unfair to the players, and creates unrealistic expectations in a developing team?
I think most will be thrilled with a finals berth again...and over the moon if we win a prelim!
We won't be hanging it on the players if that's as far as it goes..no way!!
They are hitting good form, and still developing...it is so exciting, and it is enough for most...this is purely a hypothetical..not meant to upset anyone.
If you are upset by the question...will you be angry with the team if they do actually pinch one early...cos it wasn't their time yet?

Brain Teaser: If we beat Geelong, and Geelong beat Collingwood, but
C'wood beat us....does that mean....
Geelong had an off day, or w had an off day.....or.....
Anything can happen on the day?

Interesting to hear Mick Malthouse on SEN this morning endorsing Gibbs' comment. He believes we have more improvement to come through this season and thinks we have the team profile which will see us be better at the round 22 compared to now.

Compared Carlton to Geelong circa 2006-07.

Typical king of deflection malthouse talking up other teams while deflecting the pressure of his own team

Nah!
We need to improve a lot before there is talk of a flag.
For starters, we have learn to beat Essendon* and Brisbane, two of the esaybeat teams in the comp so far this season. We had Brisbane on toast ans Essendo was just horrible. We dead set should be 7-1.

Although I am firmly in the "keeping a lid on it camp" and believe that it is very unlikely that a club that hasn't won a final in about ten years can suddenly come out and win the flag; I do believe that it is now more likely than us being 1-8

No Team has made a GF, let alone won a flag from Outside the Top 4 since the introduction of the Top 8, so that's the first thing we need to achieve. Win the first week after that and who knows.
