Swanny said that paperwork had been exchanged and that there will be a result soon. He also had a lash at that tool Hutchy claiming that he had no idea. Gibbs will stay.

If he wants to go, as long as we get adequate compensation, so be it.
You want blokes in the Navy blue who want to be there. Personally I hope he stays but it's not worth paying well over the odds.

Im of the same opinion as well, but i think the way things work, if we lose a player, e only get a crappy pick or two in return as compo...

The only reason Bryce would leave Carlton would be to go home to S.A., IMO.

Maybe a Gibbs/Boak deal, but I think he'll stay.

Earlier in the interview he was asked if it'll be in the next few weeks? 3 weeks? and Swan replied 'yeah'.

Later on in the interview, when they were discussing player managers and the GC offers, I wasn't convinced that Bryce's signature was a done deal.

Personally, I'm very confident in Bryce's commitment to Carlton.

I'll put it this way to fellow posters. Just a yes/no answer please:

Would you sign with Carlton or Gold Coast for season 2011 and beyond?

Bryce has no intention of leaving Carlton and the paperwork is almost done. It wont be done to the timeline of nervous supporters or overexuberant journalists. The people at charge at Carlton and Bryce all know that he is staying at the club and he will put pen to paper soon.

At the end of the day your a footballer. Footballers exist for the sole purpose of winning premierships. Carlton will win a Premierships before the Gold Coast or GWS. Stay at Carlton, unless money means more then the ultimate prize.

Yeah I should've rephrased that, and put in "unless you play for St Kilda or the Western Bulldogs"

I've been concerned about this for a couple of months now.

No doubt Gibbs and his management would be silly not to leverage off the GC to try and 'beef up' a deal. But I think there may be more to this now.

For one - Gibbs may consider himself a little stiff that he plays second fiddle to Judd, Murph etc. Not sure whether playing off half back would be his preference. He could justifiably be the no. 1 midfielder at at least another 8-10 clubs.

Secondly - not being a Victorian means that he naturally would not feel the same way about staying here as another Vic boy would. Yes I know he is from SA but still living at GC would be like living in Vic for him - both are away from his home state.

Thirdly - with almost all of the big names turning their back on GC (apart from Ablett who is yet to decide) there would obviously be a fair bit of money on offer. Just like many would agree that it would be tough for Ablett to say no to $1.5mil a season....similarly it would be tough for Gibbs to say no to a deal close to $1mil a season which I think he probably could get.

And finally if we put all our personal preferences aside - life for a 22 year old in the Gold Coast earning $1mil a year to play footy would be a pretty sweet deal.

I like all Blues fans will be devastated to lose Gibbs. Our future captain IMO. But we would be very naive to think that he will not seriously give consideration to a GC deal.

Kots you sound just like the guy from the 'Wayne the Worrier' ads on 3AW radio. I can even hear the intonation of his voice as I read your post

Gibbs will be signed sooner rather than later. Stop getting your knickers in a bunch.

is an extra 300k worth leaving your mates, starting fresh in a brand new town and putting behind all the hard work you have put into one place? Poor Bryce, only 500k instead of 800k. Thats not to include a 3rd party deal which is probably why this is taking longer. He will stay. He is Carlton as much as he is Glenelg.

Its not only Gibbs' contract that i am concerned about. Russell, Yarran, Betts, Garlett, Grigg, Austin, Robbo are all out of contract too.
It seems Carlton is the only club not re-signing players at the moment.

Don't stress. We have the best CEO in town and some great guys in the finance department as well as a very underrated football operations manager. I sat with one of the finance guys last year at a Bulldogs/blues pre match function. These guys are on the ball.
