So Ch7 and Foxtel are showing the Richmond Hawthorn Blockbuster and ch 518 have not been allowed to show the game. There is no real use contacting Ch7 in Sydney because they have no control over the programing of AFL. Foxtel sports programmers said all they need is a nod from Ch 7 and they will broadcast it on 518.

So how do we get the two to connect? Well, <EDIT-NAME NOT SUPPLIED ANYMORE- I GOT AN EMAIL FOR THE PERSON THAT SHE HAS BEEN BOMBARDED WITH MORE THAN 50 EMAILS SINCE LAST NIGHT AND OUR POINT HAS BEEN MADE> works in the the Broadcasting Department at the AFL.

It is not breaking any privacy rulles because the afl emails are simply first name.last name@afl.com.au. <EDIT- KEEP THIS IN MIND FOR THE FUTURE- ADRIAN ANDERSON PROBABLY ISN'T A BAD STARTING POINT>

I think people power can win this one. Please contact <EDIT> asking whether she could speak to ch. 7 allowing foxtel to show the game on main event.

Heaven forbid if we have to watch the Richmond v Hawthorn game.

<EDIT- THE PERSON IN THE BROADCASTING OFFICE OF THE AFL, HAS SENT AN EMAIL ALERTING CH7 OF THE SITUATION BUT SAYS NOTHING CAN BE DONE THIS WEEK. NOW, NAILING DOWN SOME EMAILS OF PEOPLE HIGH UP AT CH7 PROGRAMMING IS THE NEXT CHALLENGE>

Dear Thea

I am advised that channel 7 have refused Foxtel permission to broadcast Sunday's Port Adelaide - Carlton match into the northern states via Foxtel Main Event channel 518.

Surely this can't be true. Who is running the game - the AFL or the broadcasters?
And if the AFL is indeed committed to fostering the game in the rugby states, why is this ludicrous situation allowed to continue?

An explanation would be appreciated.

Yours Sincerely,

518 can't show it because they have a pay per view event on Sunday.

Apart from being mouth breathers, why are seven taking the feed of the foxtel game on Sunday?

cant see 7 ever agreeing to this as they wouldnt want something they have palmed off affecting the ratings of the sport they are broadcasting. Hopefully i am wrong.

this argument does not stack up when Fox are showing a replay at 7.30pm and Ch 7 are showing it at midnight. Anyone who has foxtel, won't be watching ch7 anyway

Try living in Perth and going up against West Coast / Freo matches, which are shown live on both FTA and Foxtel and there is no ch518 option - ever. If you are lucky & can avoid the news etc you can watch it "live" some time late at night. Last weekend the Collingwood-North match was not shown until the wee hours of Monday morning.

There's just no sense in it really - if you get it live on FTA why would you need it on Foxtel?

Sun 8 Aug 12:00 MN 3:00 AM EDT Round 19 L Melbourne v Richmond
Sun 15 Aug 12:00 MN 3:00 AM EDT Round 20 L Hawthorn v Melbourne

Otherwise, it's AussieSport TV which is the AFL website quality videos available some time after the matches, but does not contain all the AFL site content, for $US60 for 12 months. The price is OK, but behind the times in terms of quality and the limited content offering, not to mention the poor website design with basic text crowding and overdisplay on the home page, and lack of info and inability to browse what is on the site until you join. There is also omnisport tv for 100 live matches during the season (well they claim that somewhere), but that's $US5.99 per match and not sure what is being shown there. Piss poor site design there too. Looks like Demetrispew may have designed both sites.

So the Northern States get shafted whilst the Northern Hemisphere has the game live.

That must have something to do with the cost of transmission?

Whatever, I feel Seven and the AFL are ripping off the footy supporters outside Melbourne.

Oh well, there's always the 2 great NRL games I can watch at the local.

Car racing is being broadcast at the same time the port v blues game would be on main event. There is the potential for something they have palmed off to main event affecting ratings for a similar product (sport) that they are broadcasting at the same time.

Obviously the situation is different on Friday (when nine had the AFL rights, not relevant now that seven has it) and Saturday nights. In Brisbane anyway. The league will always win the Friday night ratings comfortably regardless of the AFL on Main Event and the times that Ten do it on Saturday is when they grab the Lions game from foxtel and show their game on main event. The lions games will rate the same or very similar for ten regardless of their game being broadcast on Main Event at the same time...

Ponk is right and what is even more absurd is that for the Sunday games featuring WC or Freo Ch7 show it with a 30min delay while Fox show it live. How does that work, it cant help ratings? No one else gets a look in. The AFL need to mandate that a cross section of broadcasters provide a cross section of games.

MAIN EVENT ACTUALLY HAS AN EVENT THIS SUNDAY. Hence they cannot take the #7 feed.

That wouldn't matter anyway. There is always an issue when the game is going live into Melbourne on a Sunday, and another game is on Fox.
