On Port?

I trust that Waite hasn't been cited?

I thought Lucas was great. White on the other hand shows he has the ability to play at the level but really needs to work on the defensive aspect of his game. White and Thornton would be out of the team if we had a fit Walker and Bower.

I also thought Lucas was a little sloppy at times on Monday, but he has shown a heap of potential in his short career. I think we need to get more games into him, rather than give him a spell at this point

"Ratten mentioned onballers Shaun Grigg and Richard Hadley as possible inclusions in a line-up he will not be afraid to tinker with despite the big win over the Saints."

Hmmm...Johnson will probably be left out for one of these two to come back, if anything. Any other thoughts re. Grigg and Hadley? Neither played for The Ants on the weekend due to injury (or rest following recent injury).

They are both also still listed as "two weeks" on the Carlton website.

This one's in the bag. Blues by 38 points. And if you don't believe me, look at what I said about the Saints game.....

They're no good. If we play direct attacking footy we'll win. If we try to be a smartarse and beat them at their own game, we're stuffed.

We'll win by 23 points. 92-69. Waite will kick 4 Yarran 3, betts 2.

Oooooooo, Spoooooooky!! Sure, the margin was a little under but Waite DID kick 4 and the Saints kicked 68 points.

This was my blueman moment :smoking: .

I think White has shown a lot and looks to be great bargan pick up, but the composure clearly isn't there yet. Still seems very nervous, as you would expect, and I get a little nervous when he has the ball. More than happy to keep pumping games into until Bower/Walker return. But when that happens I think White will make way. Hopefully over the next couple of years he can become a regular. Still have Austin too.

Isn't this competition for spots great

Where does this leave Anderson? Has he any chance of getting back into the team?

Maybe Hadley or Grigg for Johnson. Johnson looked ok, at times he was slightly off the pace of the regulars, but could have just been getting back to AFL speed.

White clearly has the tools, but boy he's just about the luckiest bloke in the league - he rarely gets punished for his mistakes. He could have had so many goals kicked against him the last few weeks, but he's only been punished with points.

Not to say he won't be capable, but I think the writing is on the wall once Bower and Walker get back - he and Thornton will be making way once again.

All that said, no change for mine this week.

We like this ground, we like this team - if our heads are in the right spot and we bring the right attitude to the game we should come home with four points.

From now on blueman will be having Duke moments

Scorecard
TBB - 1
Duke - 1
blueman - 0

We have a lot to prove this week...the most important thing is to prove we can take all the accolades from the media in our stride and still be focussed and win the games we are expected to such as this weeks encounter.

Very important game in the context of our season IMO as with two home games to follow against the Hawks and West Coast a win this week could see us 6 and 3 after nine rounds and very much in with a top four chance...but its all about week by week and consistency...this is what the boys should be focussing on this year...consistency and the rest will take care of itself...

I think its great we can use a few 'fringe' players and still doing well.

Interesting how Thornton now seems like a fringe player. I guess it's because we don't need 3 talls whilst Walker and Russell play the tall role well and the midfield dominating. Jamo and Bower are ahead of TBird for the first 2 tall spots. White may even be ahead of T Bird whilst Bower is out.

We have a few 'fringe' players who are getting a taste and developing in hope they transform from fringe to depth players for a tilt at the flag: Thornton, White, Johnson, Lucas and Jacobs.

I doubt Hadley or Grigg would be selected even though Ratts suggests they're in the mix because they're injured atm and missing from the Bullants side. I do prefer either of them or an in form McLean used a the battering ram in the clearances instead of Judd. McLean needs to get his body right; he needs a spell.

I can't waite for Bower, Walker, Hampson, Hadley to return to the ones. I have high expectations of Austin too, so I wouldn't be too confident if I was TBird atm. I doubt he'll be dropped, but I'm sure the MC will be keeping a close eye to his 'physicalness' and direction.

I'm sure the Saints was the start of our 3 in a row (and beyond).
We should really smack Port around AAMI this weekend.

Think it will be a tough game, not at all confident, but hope we win

Port is a different animal to the last couple of years with Laidley showing the benefit of tackling and defensive pressure - sure they got spanked at the Cattery, but who doesn't. Wont be easy beats at Aami

Was at the Collingwood game and we just didn't turn up to play, could tell by half way through the 1st qtr we were in deep trouble - fumbled, had no-one defensive side of centre and the 'vibe' was just oh so bad.

That said hopefully the Saints game showed the way to have a defensive mid (Carrots) and defensive forward (Houla) and the benefit of switching the ball in-board when going forward.

I flowering hope we win as just cementing my little bloke as a blue boy after straying to 'winning' teams last year and early this year

No changes for mine - not that I'm a Thornton fan.....

Go Blues

Why would they play Hadley or Grigg when they have not played VFL for several weeks. Hadley played well against Port last year, but it is highly unlikely that you would drop Johnson, especially because Port are close to the softest side int he AFL. They are also known as Port 'Heimlich'- Apply a little bit of pressure and they will cough it up.
