Its clear that Ratten is going to have us playing defensively. Playing right into their hands.

Did he not watch the bulldogs game, they chipped around and this is why they got unstuck.

Did he not read Leigh Matthew article that you need to take them on and run through the middle ?

Argh I give up. This is why we never beat them. Thornton is the last person I would have put in against St Kilda. Slowness out of back line.

Get ready for a shellacking. :yikes:

Wow, one players fault hey.

No its what Ratten said when he mentioned he thought we needed to play better defensively and he expects St Kilda to play attacking footy.

Hence we look like having a defensive mindset.

Anyway Monday will speak for itself.

It really has nothing to do with ins and outs this week...it is more to do with tactics....we have the team to win that's for sure..

St Kilda are likely to play attacking footy and Ratts is going to try to stop them by playing defensive?

How terrible of him!

Look, Thornton isn't just a lockdown player. In the past we've looked for him on the way out as his disposal is generally pretty good. I'm sure now he's had his reset button hit he'll move the ball on much quicker and will look inside more often.

Confirmed.

Quote:
Carlton defender Paul Bower will miss Carlton’s Monday night clash against St Kilda with a leg injury. The Blues today confirmed that the injury is not the same injury that kept Bower out for four matches earlier this season.

Quote:
Bower will be replaced in the team by Chris Johnson.

Negativity to changes is bewildering.

Thornton in - No Bower, we need a bigger bodied defender than White
Waite in - Was always going to come back as he is in our best 22

White out - Not quite up to it, yet

I think some people are just way too into the anti Thornton hysteria to see past what good he does bring to the table, certainly more than White at this stage.

White's named in the team Adam.

Now that Bower is out, Thornton in makes sense. Really going to miss Walker and Bower. Our two best key defenders for the modern game.

After having a look at it our best line up for this game is:

B: Armfield, Jamison, Russell
HB: Gibbs ,Thornton, Lucas
C: Scotland, Carrazzo, Simpson
HF: Yarran, O’hAilpin, Houlihan
F: Kreuzer, Waite, Betts
Foll: Jacobs, Judd, Murphy
Int: Joseph, Johnson, Garlett, White

Thornton on Kosi, Army on Milne and Russell on Schnider.

White can go fwd when Kruezer in ruck which changes match ups and mobility. Carrots to play extractor role. Johnson (with AJ) will run as part of midfield like he has been at Bullants level. Interesting selection. He has been very good this season but has not had to be accountable or work to hard the other way. Definitely fitter and stronger this year and given chance I hope he does well.

Lucas and Gibbs run and create off HB. Two best kicks in side.

Jacobs vital at stoppages. Important the three brothers up forward put there bodies in. Waite and Setanta could cause some havoc if we win midfield battle. For us being a young side with the ability it is all about attitude.

Blues by 31!

Left field I know
BUT

Leave White and Jamo down Back.
Have Wait up forward with the Irish.

and have Thornton as Plan B either up forward...He has done this well previously or down back.

Plan B is one thing we should be working on...........

This might be a little tooo strange for many but atleast I'm thinking!!

Keys for us, in my opinion:
- Hayes
- Goddard
- Dal Santo
- Montagna
- Fisher

Who takes these guys?
I'd almost be tempted to put Russell on Dal Santo or Goddard, if it didn't mean taking him out of the back half which he is now comfortable in. Perhaps, put him on Goddard when Goddard moves forward?
I guess AJ goes to Montagna but he will have to be right on his game
Perhaps, Gibbs plays on Goddard or even Dal Santo.
Carrots on Hayes. BUT, what about Gibbs on Hayes? Try to stop him getting the ball and running off him the other way?
Hoops to play defensive forward role on Fisher.

I would try:
- Russell/Gibbs on Goddard/Hayes
- Waite also an option for Goddard forward or back...
- Carrots on Dal Santo
- AJ on Montagna
- Houlihan on Fisher
- Army on Milne
- Maybe give Lucas an 'assignment' on Schneider
- Jamo on Kosi
- Judd on the '3 votes' box for Brownlow...

Simon White palys the Shane Ellen role in the 97 GF. Cmon Ratts, you need to throw the Saints some curly ones.

Saints are playing like they're in panic mode since Reiwoldt's been out.

We can cry about Bower, Walker, McLean and Hampson. In tip top condition, they'd be good out there....but we're still OK.

We have Waite and Thornton back with something to prove and there's plenty of runners around them.
White's been given a good go to prove himself; maybe he'll shine.

We've got plenty of pace for the Saints, so I reckon we can more than match them in that department.

I'd have a hard tag on Hayes, Goddard and Mile.
I'll leave it to them to try and stop Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson, Scotland, Carrazzo, Lucas, Joseph and Betts.
Setanta as the big target.
Black Magic ...BYG or GYB (Garlett Betts Yarran)...they'll bite at the dome; it's a DRY TRACK.
Waite, Kreuzer and Jacobs mixing it up at FF to stretch them forward as well and presto.

The Dome is a good hunting ground for both lists.
They're the flag contender.
We are breaking a hoodoo.
It's a dry track.
It's time.

Blues by 8 points.

yep..or 88 points Bondi...
can't help feeling that especially Thornton with a point to prove.could set the team on fire...(yes...really!)....and though i don't think waite has to prove anything cos he's been recovering....but him firing, and the 3rd requirement....the big Special K kreuuuuuuzzzzz to fire up and kick some goals...it's alomst like him concentrating on ruck has meant a dip in marking and goals...but i reckon he is due for a blinder.
Can't wait...and really, once again...if they play with hear and intent x 4 qtrs then I'm happy...tho no reason why we can't win.

Surprised by the number of non-Carlton people tipping us to win tomorrow.

They rightly point out the Saints lost to Port and were lucky to pinch the points against the Doggies, whose form line isn't too flash.

I was more confident last week, to be honest, but I don't think the other mob is travelling too well at the moment.

Not sure if Waite should be played forward but we may not have any other option..........
Has played back prodominately in the Ants....cos he's failed up forward
Thornton in a similar boat to Waite.......
Maybe White will get first crack?
This is why i would of liked wiggins in.....

Sorry guys, but there is no way we will win this game.

Webber won the Spanish GP and Chelsea are knocking in goals for fun to win the EPL. Can't see three results on end going the way I want them to.
