Should supporters boycott the game on Monday night so the AFL thinks twice before they play more games on Mondays?

I know that I will not be going to the game on Monday.

I work early shift with my employer and would have to be up at 4.00 am the next day to start at 6.00 am. Also since it is an away game I would have to pay to get in and watch the game... if it was a weekend I would be going, but since it's a Monday night - the AFL can get stuffed!

I thinks it going to be close to a full house anyway but I agree with the sentiment.

I know it was raining last night but the empty stands at the G for melb-Foot looked awful on TV.

If Carlton played St.Kilda on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday I would go. Nothing wrong with Monday night football except it has to be played live on TV.

A Monday night delayed telecast of rugby in NSW or American football in the states would not be watched. The fans want live coverage and we here in Australia are still 15 years behind when it comes to the standard of AFL coverage. It is poor poor poor. 10 are catching on but 7 should not get the rights again ever.

I am pumped for this game.

As others have said, Monday night football is all about TV ratings.... If that is massive and the crowds are crap, it will still be considered a success.

I remember one year we played on Mothers Day AND Carlton and Essendon* drew a crowd of just over 30K. I would much rather play on Monday night and potentially have 500,000 people in Melbourne watch our brand and see our sponsor logos. :smoking:

I love Monday night NRL. Game kicks off at 7 and is done by 9. Perfect TV.

AFL is a 3 hour contest. Kicking off at 7 or later means that, even if anyone decides to broadcast live, it is not finished until pushing 10.30. I reckon if Monday night footy is going to work it needs to start at 6.30 (face it, it's not to get the live crowd involved) and be on Foxtel so they can show it live. None of this channel 7/10 delayed telecast bullshit.

It's all over people, if the AFL are looking at receiving 1billion in their next TV rights contract, look forward to Thursday, Sunday and Monday night footy.

The AFL needs the dollars to position it self for the next 20 years, as they are very very concerned of the impact soccer. The rival code offers an array of opportunites to earn a healthy income throughout the world. There are many more soccer junior teams than footy, the AFL has and will continue to invest big sums to improve its footing in the northern states. What is a concern, is that this bold move may not come off, and we the footy public will suffer for years to come.

Go Blues.

I can't really see what the fuss is about on this one. Perhaps I am showing my age here, but back in the 70s and 80s, Channel 7 used to show matches in the night competition (Sterling Cup, etc) on Tuesday nights with the telecast starting, from memory, at 8.30. And before people say, "ahh, but that was the night competition", it was treated pretty seriously by the supporters back then. Believe it or not, people used to watch it. Kids too. I was one of them. No one died.

Its on a 10 minute delay apparently. That's good enough for me.

I'm glad its not our home match, going to the footy on Monday night doesn't appeal to me much. Will be sat front and square of the TV though.

Last week it was saying the coverage on 7 was starting at 8pm. Now it is starting at 7.30pm. Glad they have come to their senses.
Game starts at 7.20pm and after adds and chit chat the ball will bounce at 7.45pm so it will be around a quarter behind.

I'd boycott it purely because of "Saints footy"
