He was pretty good that day but it was 4 years ago.

Watch that game again and see how different the style was and how many rotations there were. He effectively ran the whole game and got better as the game went on. Still ran at one pace but his endurance was a factor.

Today's game is about speed. Leg speed and by hand and foot. He doesn't have it.

As for him being next Captain. That was touted early in his career but certainly not over the last year or so. Wasn't even in the leadership group!
Surely the rotations will help him? He has played good footy since then too. As Bluehammer said,it can take time to settle in to a new environment. I feel confident that by years end he will be a solid contributor.

Apparantly/reportedly/yada yada, according to Bailey, 'Brock no loss as his body is shot, poor decision maker and lacks a-grade skills'.

Dean Bailey quote!

"Brock no loss as his body is shot, poor decision maker and lacks a-grade skills."

Don't think anyone needed to quote it as it was more than obvious - he is a very average footballer.

Pick 11..... :donk:

Do people expect Melbourne officials and their supporters to praise Mclean after he requested a trade? :screwy:

Cale Morton said the exact opposite.

Teammates were shocked McLean left: Morton
Quote:
MELBOURNE'S Cale Morton, who is seen as one of Melbourne's most integral players in the next decade, said McLean's decision to be traded to Carlton for pick 11 in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft was frustrating.

"It was disappointing to lose Brock, a leader of the footy club," Morton told afl.com.au. "When he's playing his best footy, he's a good player and he'll be missed.

Whats laughable is someone believing (incorrectly) that a lot of the comments are made on five games. The guy has played nearly 100 and hasnt played a good game of football in years. We are not talking about a first year draftee.

As for whipping boy. It is not just about him. Serious questions need to be asked by we gave away a valuable pick in the last uncompromised draft for an injury plagued player with question marks over his ability at AFL level!

Not entirely true Jimmae, speak to dees fans and they'll tell you he was way too slow and had been demoted to run with roles those of which he struggled to perform.

I'd prefer to watch their football and analyse their list, and that told me their key contested ball winners were Jones, Moloney & McLean. They've now added Scully & Trengove to that mix after losing Brock, not to mention younger types like Morton & Grimes getting stronger.

ThePsychologist wrote:
No sure it was a weak draft. I think you will find that most players up to about pick 20 will be very good AFL players.

That is the definition of a weak draft.

How's this for an exercise: with the exception of Luke Ball & Kane Lucas, analyse the players taken from picks 11 - 43 (our third rounder, which from this discussion I gather is your evaluation of his worth). Tell me which ones you feel rate higher than McLean right now in terms of current ability, then tell me which ones you think will rate higher than McLean in 3 years.

You sure he wasn't talking about Nathan Jones?

The draft was compromised after the AFL removed all the bottom age picks from the pool.

A bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush.

Pick 11..... :donk:

What's the value of a draft pick if you're aiming to win a flag?

And you got the man you wanted at 12?

There are more draft picks in this draft and the next FFS.

One week it's JR, the next week it's Walker, then Judd (see comments on the Judd trade being a bust if we don't win a flag) and now Mclean who shouldn't have been recruited.

The way you're all ranting, it leaves you with the impression that we traded for Lovett.

And cut Simpson to make room for him.

Dean Bailey would tell corporate luncheon buyers Jurrah is the most freakish forward in the competition if he thought it would fly with them and generate funds.

Oh wait... he did exactly that. It's in that thread. Go read it.

And didn't pick Naitanui because "he is very predictable in how he plays." I would be too if I could out-jump everyone and run like a player that stands a foot shorter... because if I can read the game and fine tune my skills, I can dominate it.

I'd rather Mclean than Talia and Tapscott who lacks endurance and agility.

Or Gysberts who is A grade with his decision making.

These guys would be behind Grigg and Robinson who still need to work on their games.

That's how weak the draft was.

Stop overreacting and ranting like we sold our future for Mclean.

It looks like Carlton will get a bargain with Buckley in 2011. :smoking:

Some of you people don't deserve to be Carlton supporters the way you slag off some of our players...

Here's picks 11 -30! How many of these would you take before McLean?

Daniel Talia Adelaide
Lewis Jetta Sydney
Christian Howard Western Bulldogs
Jasper Pittard Port Adelaide
Daniel Menzel Geelong
Luke Tapscott Melbourne
Benjamin Griffiths Richmond
Nathan Fyfe Fremantle
Ryan Bastinac North Melbourne
Gerrick Weedon West Coast
Koby Stevens West Coast
Jake Carlisle Essendon*
Aaron Black North Melbourne
Travis Colyer Essendon*
Callum Bartlett Brisbane Lions
Mitch Duncan Geelong
Jack Gunston Adelaide
Luke Ball Collingwood

Lot of quality there. Most playing AFL already and I would rate having more ability than Mclean and definitely more to work with for the future!

How's about we take away all the players, coaches and officals then? You'll be left with the club and still find something to moan about.

Fine with me ! There are always other players, coaches and officials to take their place - but Carlton will remain forever.

Its interesting and it comes form the same people all the time. Happy to argue about some players but if it doesn't suit they bring up the cant be Carlton supporters or support Richmond lines.

As a member/supporter I see nothing wrong with questioning why a player was recruited and what value he is supposed to bring to the club. Actually not slagging the person but the decision!
