I liked White - sure he was beaten by a guy twice his size, but he never gave in and was belting the ball long with kicks in the third quarter. His determination was written on his face.

Never dropped his head (and that is really hard to do in that onslaught). Had character. Henderson was a bit more laconic about it all.

In: Robinson, Hadley? is he available? or Steven Browne? (we need more options in the midfield), Waite

Out: McLean, Henderson, Houlihan

p.s Congrats Juddy and O'H on a great game.

Houlihan has one good game and then slips back to being 12th -15th best in the team, just safe from the drop. For someone who is so seasoned, not sure if that is good enough.

Do we get AJ to tag a key midfielder such as Montagna or a forward such as Milne? I say tag a midfielder before the damage is done.
Their midfield is their strength.

Michael Jezz posted this in the Pros & Cons section......

Quote:
- We need KPP strength to beat top four sides. Kreuzer needs to play forward with Sauce and Warnock rucking. K might be a great ruckman but team needs him forward

This might not be a bad idea against StKilda.

Have Setanta and Kreuzer up forward with the three brothers feeding off their crumbs and play Sauce and Warnock as a ruck duo?

Agree with these ins and outs.
Henderson needs to get some confidence. Many are calling for White to be dropped but i thought he played ok, i watched the replay last night and he was good when he went forward.
Saints are going to be tough to beat, they are bigger bodies.

Agree on White. As I said on another thread, not really a KPP. More a flanker size. Was behind him when he kicked the goal from the HFF which was a beauty. He could really develop.

It is the inside tough nuts we are missing. McLean just isn't with it at the moment. Against St.Kilda and Hayes and Del Santo and co. we will get murdered. Grigg at the very least as Hayes is a runner and maybe Hadley although it depends on fitness.

KPP is easy as Henderson and Waite can be swapped. If Waite has a semblance of touch he will do well.

It seems Robinson had a blinder in the VFL. Do you bring him straight back and if so for whom? Split Setanta's Little Helpers or drop White or Houlihan. Tough call as there are arguments for each.

Thats a harsh call on Hoops. Created a number of opportunities in the forward line and kicks goals. Also, I thought he did a very good job on Shaw as well. Not to mention his efforts in previous games this year. Finally the MC are playing him forward and thats his strength. Far from our worst player, and certainly higher than the 12th to 15th best in the team as you suggest.

Here's a thought, why don't we have an extra Saturday afternoon game? We have three !@#$%& channels supposedly covering the AFL. You wouldn't think it was rocket science.

Thursday night is better than Monday night by a long way. But I still don't see why games can't be played between Friday night and Sunday night.

Why ?......good night for TV audience, maybe not so good for attending live.

Mon Night is the night ppl have fewest arrangements on after the w/end.

Whats wrong with having a game to watch on Mon night ?..... has proven a big success in the US with their Mon night time slot

Because it's just bloody wrong, that's why.

Mondays are for talking with your mates about the games on the weekend. It is the night for watching On the couch and other similar programs. Monday is the start of the new week (yes, technically Sunday, blah, blah) ... it's just horrible. The Saints go a whole week without playing a game. I'm all for crowds are up, ratings are up, but sometimes someone just needs to slap these flowers at AFL house with a dose of common sense. It shouldn't always be about whoring yourself for the biggest television dollar. I know I'm about 15 years too late there, but never mind. Anyway, how about we flower concentrate on showing games we already have live instead of trying to create a new time slot. Give people a choice, it doesn't matter if two channels broadcast two different games at the same time... rant continues ad nauseum...

Could the AFL have used a worse game to test the waters?

'Saints footy' is as entertaining as Damoz Direct ads.

This might be a bit left field, but I'd consider playing Warnock and Jacobs and using Big K as the big bodied mid we got McLean to be. He is quicker than McLean, an infinitely better ball handler and tackle and offers us a mismatch sneaking forward and might throw the Saints much vaunted 'structure'.

Just really hard to seeing us breaking through the Saints Footy floodfest. I only pray we don't do what the Dogs did and go back 100m and then via the Cape every time :yikes: . Time for Juddy and Murph to take a bounce and have a ping running through the 50m rather than trying to hit forwards (who will be covered) ?

Out: McLean, Jacobs, White
In: Warnock, Waite, Hadley/Grigg/Robinson

You're very unfair on the Magic Bullet there, Woj.

LOVE the magic bullet.

Monday night NRL is fantastic as well. Leads into On The Couch beautifully. I just wish it wasn't St Kilda.

Who gets the coverage?

Prime will be showing "near live" on a 4 1/2 hour delay. Otherwise its live on Foxtel 518.

It's just a dumb idea, I'll never like it and I don't care what anyone says!!!

i reckon it's a good tester for Monday night once or twice a year. Better than having to go to the footy on Mothers Day.

Injuries to Grigg/Hadley may save Brock

Brad Fisher – Knee – 3-4 weeks
Shaun Grigg – Ankle – 2 weeks
Richard Hadley – Knee – 2 weeks
Shaun Hampson – Hamstring – Test
Andrew Walker – Collarbone – 6 weeks

Waite in for Hendo.
Sauce deserves another chance, tho Warnock was good in the twos
Maybe Robinson for Garlett or Mclean

Not sure how efefctive the 3 indigi boys are gonna be aganst saints 15 man defence. May be better with Robinsons toughness at the contest.

Sauce deserves 3-4 games Warnock has shown nothing and couldnt take a mark.

I didn't think anyone would actually WANT to cover this game

1) put setanta and/or resting ruckman on the goal line
2) shoot from outside 50
3) back yourselves (juddy, murphy, gibbs, houlihan) to pinpoint the B.O.B. amidst the Saints zoning
4) let them put their 18 in our attacking 50; keep 3-4 max in our forward 50 with a healthy dose ready to flood their 50.

the worst part about their bloody zoning is that when the ball turns over, their forward line is open and clear. we must keep their forwrd line congested so they can't rebound freely.
so, we shouldn't all follow them into our forward line. we line up 70m out and hit the goal from just outside 50m.
we either score, our tall timber marks or deliberately taps it down to the roving BOB (who probably won't have someone on them directly b/c they're too busy zoning or we screw up and they clear out of defense but we're waiting for them midfield and back so they can't turn their defense into an easy attack.

Oh, also, we have a strong midfield (apart from against Collingwood...) which we should use to get the ball in quickly from centre bounces before they can properly flood back.

I think we're going to win this. I wasn't confident against the Pies but feeling good about this one.

Out : White - has no leap to spoil or mark
Garlett - will get killed at EH Stadium if it gets hot in battle
Maclean - He is slower than Diesel ever was

In: Waite - Play in Defence to allow Henderson to play forward
Robbo - Because he loves the tough stuff
Browne - see Robbo
