And this week's nomination for "not really knowing what the hell is going on in the AFL" goes to......Scott Gullan for the HUN. In the article Carlton mates have last laugh, it contains this gem:
Quote:
Since last year, forward line coach Matthew Lappin has pushed to get the three on the park at the one time.

His wish was granted last week against Port Adelaide.

But, we play a four-quarter match, with winners all across the ground, comprehensively beating Geelong everywhere, yet The Age has Ablett as their nomination for their "player of the round" poll. The only player from a losing team in the poll.   I picked something like that would happen.

And all the "pictures of the round" in the gallery from the Carlton match are of Geelong players. The only reason Carlton players are in the images are because they happened to be close by

Ch 10's opening yesterday was all about the Cats too.

our new player O'Houlihan certainly keeps the opposition guessing.
A plucky mixture of silky smooth, pin point accuracy combined with a cavalier attitude and brute strength..promises to be a dominating force in our side.

Scotto is just in great form at the moment. Don't underestimate how important his hardness and cool evasive skills have been in the last few weeks. Has added some real steel to our midfield. Complimenting and supporting Judd beautifully.

Perhaps if we win two premierships in three years then we will get the photos and the tv, but until that time, I am happy for it to be all about the other teams. we can quietly go about our business with minimum fuss and scrutiny

I get what you mean, chelodina, and I have no real issue with the pre-match focus being on Geelong. But we didn't just win, we didn't just fall over the line, or pinch a last-gasp victory, we comprehensively defeated the best team of the last 3 seasons. As such, our team and our players ought to get the credit for defeating their opponents.
Additionally, Ablett, while he was flashy and showy as usual, and kicked 2 goals, he had little impact with his 33 possessions. If his possessions had have been more damaging, they might have won. As such, he doesn't deserve a "player of the round" nomination over Judd, Murphy, GIBBS, Yarran, Betts, or Garlett, or JR, all of who did far more damage.

Why the angry face? I'm very happy to be flying under the radar. Much better than what happened last year, top 4 calls from the start of the season (even though we hadnt hplayed finals for nearly 10 years), Fab 4 talk about a midfield that included a 21 year old and a (just) 20 year old.

It was ridiculous and I love that this season everyone tipped us to miss finals. (dumbfounded but love it all the same)

Let them pump Collingwood up... Again

See my post above, jake, and you'll know why the angry face.

I'm happy flying under the radar, but I just think credit should be given where it's due.

Was at the game. Was probably as enjoyable game as I can recall going to. You can't wipe the smile off my face today. Just hoping we can back it up with the same amount of intensity next week.

Does anyone know if and when this is being replayed on 1HD? I've been searching through the TV guide and can't find it, but was sure that every C10 game is replayed a couple of times?

What a fantastic win yesterday, so proud of our boys.
It was an honour to be at the MCG yesterday seeing two of the best in the competition in Judd and Ablett in full flight.
Lets just hope we can back it up again this weekend.
Feel so sorry for Walker, he just cant take a trick.
Go Blues.

Ablett was very good, but he was only truly damaging when he was moved forward such was the impotence of the rest of the Geelong team. Thompson knows full well that Ablett starred, but also that it counted for nought when he was the only Cat who won their position, hence his refusal to acknowledge this to a media who had already shot their collective load over his game.

I'm happy for Carlton to have a more even team performance than rely on one or two stars.

A fantastic day!
I actually went to the 'G thinking that a 4-5 goal loss would be honourable and perhaps a pass mark. I didn't expect what I saw. Fabulous!!!

Judd is a gun and the boys were great but I haven't seen Ablett live for a LONG time (perhaps 2006) and he is simply beautiful to watch. I thought he was breath-taking. A gun!

It was a real pleasure at the footy yesterday - watching Judd and Ablett in full flight

I agree he can only come back in when we revert back to a static gameplan...

Thornton is a product of our wilderness years. He developed that style when he was fullback in one of the worst sides in the modern era. IF he was 18 in this side, his attacking side would develop. Give the guy a go, he can evolve with our success. I hope he doesn't become disgruntled and ask for a trade

And I bet Ratts and not Thompson gave Ablett the two votes if the press conferences were anything to go by!

EDIT: whoops, just read the article
