I believe Thornton didnt play at all on the weekend, is this true and if so, is he carrying an injury ?

Rolled his ankle a bit last week. Not sure on the prognosis.

What a difference a good midfield ethic and a little concentration on the job at hand makes. I sat in almost the exact same spot I was in the for the Dons game and aside from it actually being night then and a day game today, it was night and day in the performance.

Pods can bugger off back to the VFL and Geelong can start giving a kid a chance in Hawkins. He's a pretty decent player who is being made to feel he is a token inclusion. Ah well.

Well done to Ratts who planned this one so well the Cats didn't have much to turn to. I'm still not sold on his match-day skills but his preparation is clearly fantastic.

That final (nail in the coffin) goal of Yarran's from an acute angle just outside 50 was an absolute ball bursting gem. Cleared the fence by a fair way. When he was lining it up we all thought there's no way he'll kick this. Did we all go up when it went through!

A rare sublime talent and a great pressure goal.

And well done to Jeffy G on getting himself into form in the VFL and contributing like we all knew he could. Much happier with the 2 tall structure up forward, which leaves us with a tactical headache when Waite is ready to return.

Knew he'd kick it. Have seen him slot them from 50m out on the boundary numerous times....usually on the preferred side for a right footer. A unique and rare talent this lad.

No it doesn't, he or Hendo will play in defense as Bower and White are both tall and short. Thornton's spot in the team in real trouble at the moment.

Who'da thought that Bomber's presser would be more enjoyable than Ratts's!
Just to add after watching half the replay...
Well done also to Scotty and Houla...mature calm heads amongst the younger and flashier moments.
Wow...this game will get a lot of screen time at our house.
What a feeling.

And if Waite shows more promising form as a defender? White can play on the odd medium player, but he's not got the closing of Jamison or Bower from what we've seen so far (which admittedly goes against the early draft reports that came in).

Conversely, Henderson is not a tall defender for all seasons given his fairly average burst of speed.

It is a real shame that Walker has been injured again. He really needs to find a better way to rollout of a tackles. Always appears to get slammed on his neck, head, shoulder, needs to get his back turned. Maybe needs to go and do some Judo or wrestling to learn some skills about shifting weight when he falls.

However, with that said, he is not the loss he once was, we now have Lucas to cover the run with role.

Bower and Waite to come in to add some run from the backline.

I am so thrilled that the match committee have chosed to leave Thornton out. I can not find a role for him. He is slow and a negative influence. His failure at the Bullants shows that he doesn't have the maturity to learn the game. Maybe a trade to Gold Coast or Hawthorn awaits.

Exactly.

Agreed !!

How quickly we forget. He has been terrific for so long and will be back.

His downfall is that he plays severely injured all too aften when many others don't make it on to the field.

I thought we were trading Yarran?

Indeed it was. Evened up that Daniel Wells goal from years back (rd 3 04 from memory).

Silky smooth is Yarran. How was the left foot pass to Houla in the 2nd! Easy as you like.

Yazz, needs to play with a little more vigor.

When the ball is not in your hands you need to look busy.

Tackle, Tackle, run run run.

I liked Garlett's goal where he sprinted into an open goal on the run. It was spine-tingling stuff.

If we keep this up, we will have the best indigenous Australian forward line ever assembled...just pure magic. But let's take it one game at a time. A week is a long time in football.

Call it bashing. Simple fact is we look better without him.

Hmm,,,,,,i dont think we look better because of Thornton.

We look better since we got beat by the Scum and Ratten axed Waite and Thornton. Shows that no one is a sure thing to play in the one's.

Everyone has lifted since that loss.

Keep it going guys !!!!!!!

Agree with Outback Blue.

But, we play a four-quarter match, with winners all across the ground, comprehensively beating Geelong everywhere, yet The Age has Ablett as their nomination for their "player of the round" poll. The only player from a losing team in the poll.   I picked something like that would happen.

And all the "pictures of the round" in the gallery from the Carlton match are of Geelong players. The only reason Carlton players are in the images are because they happened to be close by

Take us lightly at your own peril, media.
