Ratts said during the week T-bird wouldn't play due to an ankle injury.

Tommahawk is more like Ladyhawke and less talented.
And Steak knives Army fantastic
But Jordan Russell I am more and more amazed every week.

Pods could have been very very good today if he kicked straight, don't get too carried away. The bloke is a very handy key forward.

Agree with the rest very much so!

Especially the Ladyhawke part

Interesting there's been a bit of discussion about what position guys are playing this season, I had a look at the huddles today

Backs - 7 (Montgomery)
Jamison
White
Walker
Armfield
Russell
Gibbs
Lucas

Forwards - 6 (Lappin)
O'hAilpin
Henderson
Houlihan
Garlett
Betts
Yarran

Midfield - 9 (Riley and Harvey)
Kreuzer
Warnock
Judd
Murphy
Simpson
Scotland
Carrazzo
McLean
Joseph

Obviously Walker wasn't there at 3/4 time and Murphy and Kreuzer spent some time forward as well, but were more a part of the midfield rotation.

I couldn't tell if there was a real rotation with the seven backs, you'd imagine Lucas probably rotated through the midfield and covered back when someone needed a break and after Walker went off.

What we can take from that....Gibbs definitely part of the defence and Scotland definitely part of the midfield rotation. You'd have seen him as part of the defence huddle last season.

Lucas seems to be a very good decision maker. Does anyone know how he is for distance? I'd be curious to know if he could be developed for kickouts.

Exactly.

Call it bashing. Simple fact is we look better without him.

I wouldn't call it bashing, I see it more as pointing out the difference in how the defence works without him there. The proof is in the pudding.

We beat Geelong with run, dash, good field kicking, and the willingness to takes chances. Thornton has his strengths but not any of these. Unless there is a big form slump, who is he gong to displace in the team?

After watching Geelong last week against Port Adelaide, I thought we'd cop a belting today. Beating Geelong the way we did, with them in red hot form last round, is incredibly satisfying.

Henderson OUT? No sorry for me. He and Setanta are never outmarked. They both provide a contest and are both VERY mobile.

Agreed. I felt a bit for Hendo today, in the first half there were about 4 marks that were 90% a mark, all within 20m of goal, but he just couldn't quite hold them. They will stick one day, of that I am sure. I'd keep him in.

I agree he can only come back in when we revert back to a static gameplan...

Bartel missed so many targets today, post game he spend ten minutes trying to open someone elses car with his keys.

Loved the win. Fantastic effort by the boys. Kept the intensity up and was just harder at the ball the whole day. Gibbs picking it up at half back as Taylor tried to grab him instead, Gibbs just went through and sent us forward. Judd was great, as per usual. Ably supported by 21 other guys. Special mention to JR who is becoming a very consistent, dependable gun down back. Love seeing him succeed, especially after all the criticism he got over the years.

Disappointed people aren't just basking in Blue glory, but taking the time to put the boots into Thornton. He has played well above his height and in a poor side for years. I'm pleased we have quality players out as that means we have actual competition for places.

Thornton is a quality back and with some changes of focus to his game, will be a real asset. Would enjoy seeing him given a stint up forward too. Real marking power and a good reader of the ball.

Back to the main point though: Just so bloody happy about the game today! Love your work fellas.

We fully deserved the win. Thompson was pretty much gobsmacked in his presser.

Well done to all the boys.

ON THE WINNERS!!!!
Mclean did have two poor forward entries in the third but generally was excellent and worked the Cats mids hard.
White and Lucas again very good.
Juddy well thats the champ.
And Steak knives Army fantastic
and the 'Yazz, Jeff and Eddie' Show well it's more exciting than the big chin and more effective.
But Jordan Russell I am more and more amazed every week. Whoever convinced the kid he could play (and I guess Ratts should take some credit) well sir or madam I dips me lid!! He is even naming his bunny's mid-week now!!!
and welcome back Bryce Gibbs
A lovely day out
Get well soon Walks!

Maybe Jordan should be nicknamed Pigeon if he keeps nominating a bunny each week. I wish he would not kick the ball so hard at kick ins when short passing, they usually reach the target on the half volley. I don't think he needs to do that.

Todays game was as good as the Essendon* game was bad. It was a good comeback.

Fantastic win....Good to see the mosquito fleet play their role well again.

Good to see Yazz kick the sealer, good players kick the important goals. :smoking:

Good to see Mcleans ankle hold up. (memo to Juzzy, it was his troublesome anle and not the hip as reported)

great to have Waite and Bower waiting in the wings!

I hope 1aw's shoulder is ok and it's just a broken collerbone or arm as thers have suggested.

JR should not be taking the kick ins!!!! The guy will never be a reliable kick unfortunately.......Good job on Stevie J though.

I think the final eight is taking shape!

JR and Army really are a couple of rippers. Awesome games from both of them. Put Bower alongside them and we have an awesome attacking defence. White's still got a way to go on the one on one defence (Jamo will be a great example for him) but his disposal and decision making at this level are really impressive ... he's made a huge leap from WAFL>VFL>AFL in 6 months.

Delighted with the midfield, expect Murph to lift next game but he was well covered by those around him.

Will be interesting to see what they do with Hendo this week. He's working hard but not getting much reward for his effort.

obviously a great feature of the betts/yarran/garlett forwardline is that they seem to lift each other.

Definitely hope they can function as a unit even if one of them is having a quieter day.

Hendo is probably leading the competition in 'Almost-Marks'. He'll get better at holding them, but for now if he can get himself into position, bringing it to ground with the 3 blokes mentioned above at his feet will cause some headaches.

Took my 3 year old today and she loved it. Really great day and boys put in their best 4 quarter effort in, well, her lifetime and the last 5 years for mine. Perhaps the bulldogs last year is the game that comes close but Geelong are another level.

Well played. Well coached. Well executed.
