If you'd been on the moon and read this thread, you'd think we'd been playing so well.....all of a sudden the entire team is indispensible

a few people are saying white will smash pods - why the extreme confidence? white was impressive last week, but if the supply is good he's really going to have his hands full in he's second game. good luck to him though. he's been one of the finds of the season.

White hasn't been much of a find yet, it's just that Pods is rubbish. He's been tottering around in the VFL for a decade for a reason. He wouldn't even be on Geelong's list if Hawkins wasn't playing like Jane.

You can see we're only a personnel change here and there away from the right unit so long as their heads are screwed on right.

IMO:

In: McLean
Out: Robinson

EDIT: Wrong name in there

Yep i reckon that will be it. Our backline will attempt to make their lumbering forward line a liability.

Go Blues !

I think depending on McLean's fitness it will be either him or Hads for Robbo.

As for White, I think he did enough to hold his spot but people shouldn't forget that Brett Burton could have kicked 5 on him in the first quarter last week if he could kick - kicked 1.2 with two that didn't score from shots inside 50. Don't add White to the list of players on our list we overrate - he showed signs but he is far from proven as an AFL level defender.

Thanks for the reality check lawrence.

Great to support White and back him, but lets not exaggerate his efforts in his first game. See above.
Sure he improved as the game wore on, and at the end of the day it was a good first up effort. IMO.

It will be interesting to see how he goes against quality opposition on Monday (if he remains in the side).

I would put money on White playing Monday.

I don't know if the track will be wet or dry. The MCG has got great drainage, but given there is a high chance for rain I don't expect it'll be a day for the talls.

I hope Hadley is selected ahead of McLean. I thought Hadleys preseason form warranted his selection from round 1.
Sure McLean has done well in rounds 1 and 2, but that's just me; I prefer Hadley at this stage. I wantto see what he can do against the Cats.

In Hads Out Robbo

..Pods has a lot of FF experience.. ..he's got good timing, i'd play Jamo on him.. ..he's our most settled/talented/experienced real FB.. ..Pods is a one position player only i reckon, and that's at FF.. ..i also don't think they'd play all three talls in their forward line for any real length of time.. ..simply too top heavy/slow.. ..especially with such dangerous mid/small fwds to compliment..

I reckon Pods doesn't have the stamina to play HF. He's new to the business of AFL.

But I dare say that they will have Ottens pushing fwd to FF/FP whilst Blake rucks a round the ground.
Ottens is dangerous at the 50m arc at CGH. He needs to be covered: everyone does.

I guess 15 goals should win this game. Two very good midfields. Geelong the seasoned and the benchmark of midfield class. Carlton adding a lot of muscle and class in there with Judd, Carrazzo, Scotland, and probably one of McLean and Hadley with the speed and class of Murphy, Simmo, Gibbs, Betts and Houla to mix it up and keep it fresh...we can compete with Ling Bartel Selwood Ablett Kelly Corey and then their up and comers. It's a close battle, so the scores can be tight, especially if they play ring rosey possession footy...which I hope they do, because we've got pace around the ground. Every goal thrust defended counts towards a win. The less they score, the less we have to kick to win.

We have to have a plan for Ottens forward.
He's 202cm tall.

FF: Pods is 194 vs
HF: Hawkins is 197
CHF: Mooney is 195

They'll have 3 talls fwd for long periods of the game imo.

What have we got listed to cover them?

Jamison
White
Walker

Well they can't cover Ottens going forward when Blake takes the ruck.
So we need 2 rucks available.

I'd like one of Waite Bower or Austin fit and playing this week.
Waite's a possibility.
As long as we can cover Ottens going forward with one of our ruckmen then I think Walker will cover for Waite.
Plus I'd have to drop Lucas for him most likely, and I don't want to do that atm.

A win at the MCG would be enough motivation for our kids. Geelong have been there, done that.
Plenty to play for, both sides.

Robbo out and McLean in.

No real surprise there. Love Robbo's attack on the ball, definitely shows up some of our other guys for toughness and commitment. But needs to get more of the ball, and use it better when he does. Brock back was a must, although if it's wet Hadley might've been handy too.

Right now I'd say Robbo is at the stage JR was right before Ratts started showing faith in him. Hard at it, committed, but lacking in polish.

Well done jimmae on getting this one right early.

We're still waiting on Bower to return though

So now I think White will play on Hawkins. Walker on Mooney and Jamison on Podsiadly. I'm getting worried about our height

I'm not. Lets not worry about them. Just think that our new attacking defensive six will expose the Cats forwards defensively and create lots of run and attack! :smoking:

Hindsight will prove Jimmae right.

Unless we miss Robinson's grunt and defensive pressure.

In: Hogan
Out: Mitch Duncan (general soreness)

They've countered our run with the selection of Hogan...

Thank God Rooke didn't make the cut.

We may have needed Robinson or Hadley if he made the cut for the Cats.
