If Bower and Mclean are fit then they should both play IMO.

Bower, White and Jamo is my preferred back 3 until Aussie gets back. T-bird should get comfortable at the Bullants unless we gets injuries.

Out? Robinson and Carlos? Tough gig this week for the MC.

Going to need much more than 36 Inside 50 entries than we had against the crows to kick a decent score.

This should be a good test on where were at in reality as we have only played 3 of the bottom 4 sides and current the top team.

Another example. Cats only need one quarter to end you. We'll match them for a lot of the match, but we MUST NOT get comfortable or they'll destroy us within 10 minutes.

It will be interesting to see if the MC elects to try and shutdown their numerous playmakers with tags in a defensive type approach or get on the front foot with the same attacking approach from the start as the Adelaide game.

Certainly a test for the likes of Murphy Gibbs Kreuzer to put 4 quarters together against the yardstick of the competition.

Interesting to see how we line up, especially down back. If Bower doesn't come up I'd think about using Henderson down back.

White to Tom Hawkins
Jamo to James Podsiadly
Walker to Paul Chapman
Russell to Steve Johnson
Henderson to Cameron Mooney
Armfield to Shannon Byrnes

Joseph on Ablett

Otherwise I like Gibbs, Scotland or Lucas drifting across half-back to be the sweeper.
And if they bring back Scarlett let Setanta run him around all day. Don't worry about scoring, just run him around. Otherwise go small/med up forward.

Lucas has been fantastic so far. Doubt the MC could have asked much more from him.

I suspect though that the MC may leave him out this week. The cats just physically assaulted Port's younger players ... I'd expect the MC to bring back some mature bodies in for this game. It makes sense. Lucas has had a taste, Brock was expected to be only out for a week, we will need that mature tough body in the middle, so:

IN Brock
OUT Lucas
Allowing Judd to spend more time outside. Beefing us up at the stoppages.

If Bower were to be fit:
IN Bower
OUT Garlett
Eddie to play up forward again. Cats have 3 tall forwards so hope Bower gets up this week.

Both Garlett and Lucas don't deserve to lose their spot, really great for the Blues to have geniune competition for spots.

Btw - neither Waite (who seems frustrated with his lack of form, needs to gain confidence) nor T-bird deserve a call up after the Bullants game.

Can't see Garlett or Lucas being left out after their performances.

No way would you drop Lucas after that game. He's shown he's ready, so let him show what he's got against the comp's benchmark.

Lets be honest Geelong are a big heavy team.

Forwards - Mooney, Hawkin & Pods.

We will need to Jamo, White and ? Hopefully Bower to keep them under control.

Maybe Walker goes to Chapman and Russell to Steve J.

At the moment, Armfield & Robo appear the most at risk.

Joseph is doing nothing to help his cause maybe if he can shut down Ablett he gets to stay, at the moment he has been terrible.

I would be working hard to get Bower & McLean up, would also consider Waite.

Good to see that finally we are starting to find it hard to fit everyone in

Personally? Lucas showed poise to indicate that he was an astute draft choice and I am certainly not a fan of what we have chosen after number one recently. He must stay if only for further learning.
Sorry to rain on the White Parade but I really thought he battled. He didn't body up against his many opponents and had Burton converted his first quarter would have looked diabolical.
Against Geelong? Bower for White (if Bower is fit) and Maclean for Robinson. I like Robinson's intensity but one of his tasks was to limit Macleod's run and he didn't manage that nor get it himself.
The Ants game? Thornton is not a forward, well judged on that first half. Waite toyed with the game from quarter two onwards and was classes above the rest. For those who watched that game it does need to be remembered that it was a very windy one and Waite was classes above what was required. For the record I thought Chris Johnson was superb also.

Bower and McLean should come straight in if they are fit.

If they are not, we may see no changes. However, I'd still give serious thought to recalling either T-Bird or Waite. We got away with an undersized & inexperienced defence against the Crows, but I'd really like to see another established, hardened, mobile tall defender against the Cats. Preferably Bower. It may need to come at the expense of White (who I like and who did OK vs Adelaide, and he'll get more opportunities) or maybe even Carlos, unless the MC decides to change the structure and drop Armfield or AJ.

And McLean did well in the first 2 rounds and I'm sure the club is keen to get him & Judd in the same side. I imagine he'd come in most likely at the expense of Robbo.

Watching Geelong today -anyone think Stevie J and Milburn might be in trouble with MRP

Stevie J trip with the foot early in the first quarter -looked crude how many weeks for tripping with feet ?

Milburn late hit on Cornes certainly reportable

Need our three aboriginal boys yo play well - hunt is not quick -monica is quick but loose and then difficult to find another quick defender -maybe mackie

Obviously Midfield is important - break even at least

Defence will need bower if they have mooney pods and the other father son

I reckon we have a real chance

I am normally a half full kind of guy but unlike a lot of people here I saw the Adelaide game as 2 really cr@p sides playing with the less cr@p winning. Now I know that sounds harsh and in a way it is but I have been very critical of the team after the Essendon* debacle.

I know that we have it in us to play the sort of footy that makes you want to rush to be alone for 5 minutes AKA the first 15 minutes of the third quarter vs Brisbane and that it is not possible in today`s game to play that way all the time BUT I just cannot shake our pathetic display against the scum and the fact when Ratten needs to go to plan B he goes into his bag of tricks and finds that it does not exist. Luckily against the crows there was no need.

As I am currently in Oz for the first time in 6 years and am obviously going to the match I am not asking for a win but if we play like we played against the scum I will be heartbroken (its the only match I will see before heading back).

One pleasing aspect about the Adelaide game was at least the players who were out there were playing to give the jumper pride which is all you can ask! The fact that skills/confidence still seems to be fairly low is a worry but hopefully the game will kick start us to play more like we played against the paddlepops rather than the current brand we are playing at the moment.

Sorry for the negativity but after not seeing my beloved Blues play live in 6 years (used to go to every match in Melbourne) I just want to see a really really good game of footy (and I am talking about a smashing not a 1 point win!)

So fingers crossed hope we are now running into form rather than running away from it BUT as always

GO YOU MIGHTY BLUES!

So following this...any reason Thornton would not be a brilliant defending forward?
Given that every one in the Afl is missing goals a.t.m.....all he really needs to do is practice for two hours a day ..every day..and he could be competing for the Coleman.

Having watched T-Bird on Saturday, there is no way in hell he can play forward. He won't get back in the side based on that performance.

brazil, i'm with you on this, I certainly dont think it was a win for the ages!
Large patches of the game we played poorly and as crap as Adelaide were, they did manage to get the ball into F50 A LOT and really only failed to pressure us with those entries by poor forward play and shooting for goal
