Unlike the Carlton teams of a few years back - These are young players that have the potential for great things.

And they will achieve great things in time

But subject to the quality of coaching that they receive - their rate of learning and improvement and their response to adversity is something that is very much in their own hands.

But they will have to improve significantly if they are to defeat either or both of Geelong or St Kilda.

+1

the coaching performance. the players effort.

They still have so much to prove.

Coaching quality is more important than the war because it will win us a flag.

But then again once the war starts - we will be closer to a flag anyway.

Breaking down their attacks early was a key to this victory ... they struggled at times to get the ball movement they like to create.

I don't buy this poor shooting for goal thing from Adelaide ... one of them goes in and it is a totally different game.

They struggled when we played the ball into space on our forward line.

Kane Lucas ... footy player ... he has it.

Overall, great win by the boys. 1st and 2nd quarters were fantastic... Our 3rd quarter and the first part of the last term was pretty crap though, and had Adelaide kicked straight we would've been in a bit of trouble.
We still seem to panic when put under pressure, and the bad disposals and out on the fulls crept back into our game when the Crows were pressing early in the last quarter.
Great to see the brothers in Yazz, Eddie and Garlett working well together up forward. Ratts should keep playing all 3 in the side as they all did their bit today.
Kane Lucas did well down back, and so did our new 43 in Simon White. And best game by Hoops and Walker for a very very long time...
Loved Blight's comments after the free kick, and then double 50 metre penalty was paid against AJ in the 3rd...
I think his words were 'That is absolute crap by that umpire!!' Good to see a special comments man telling it like it is instead of sitting on the fence...

Saw some pride in the jumper today, so good to see. We were a little lucky early with their misses; they could have got some confidence up if the crows were accurate and might then have been a repeat of last week, but the football gods were smiling.

Having said that:
Lucas, White, Hendo: we're recruting football players not just athletes. Great to see on the park. Good luck to them, they're all leaving nothing in the change rooms as it should be.
Hot lips: looks better in the forward line, keep him there.
Walker: break out game? I hope, not sure.
Irish: CHF, to stay! Judd to Irish, one hand mark, goal, fantastic.
My favourite: THE BLUES BROTHERS! 7 goals between Eddie, Jeff, and Yazza. Can they stay there and cause some trouble? You bet (collingwood did tonight with Davis, Didac and Thomas, and ours are potentially better).
Coaching: still a nervous coaches box. You could tell by his relief in the post-match interview. Would like to see more confidence. We choked again in the third quarter with a good lead and played like we were stemming a flow against rather than burying them. But you can also they're learning on the job and that's great.
Judd: what can you say. Can't wait to see McLean alongside him.

Bring on Geelong. I have the tape from last year. Will watch it again. I think the boys love playing from underdog staus, they free their running game up, and are ready to step up. I reckon we'll get close again (remember Saints last year....). Are they ready to cause an upset? I hope so.

To a previous post, Garlett is cousins with Buddy Franklin.

@#$%&! YOU CROWS !!

Whadda game ! Spent the second quarter down in the race (right next to Carlton) and what I did notice at ground level was our voice. Blokes like Scotto, Murphy, Gibbsy yelling at their teammates in support, and from the Crows nothing but silence.

Stoked !! Will post some more tomorrow !!

To me the biggest difference was the pressure we put on them when they had the ball particularly early. We were the dominant team.

The crows were under pressure at every opportunity and its that pressure IMO that caused them to mis all those shots. They new they had to nail them otherwise they were in trouble.
having the 3 brothers there makes a huge difference. Their closing speed makes a huge difference. Why Gartlett wasnt picked from the start is beyond me.

Simon White looks like another solid pickup from the rookie draft.
He has footy smarts and courage was excellent.
And Lucas is a footballer if you no what I mean not an athlete.

But to me it was the pressure and the statement that we came to play.

Now the trick is to back it up against the Cats

As Blight identified, there were 3 errors in that passage from the Ump that basically made it a 12 point turnaround. Not great umpiring.
However, in the past we would have been affected more than this time. I was pleased by that.

yes the real problem was the free against walker who got the handball -the umpire was on the wrong side and guessed and paid holding the ball -
Still not nearly as ordinary as Rays effort last week
Great win -dont care if it is against 15th side we were there not long ago and Couldnt win interstate

Really??? Someone should get onto this fact quick smart.

You'd think Bwooce McAvaney or Dwayne Russell would have mentioned it at least once by now.
