Getting nervous boys?

Well at the very least the doomsayers who were talking 1-8 can take a hike.

Our disposal has been pretty good today.

We didn't capitalise that quarter, but even the most ardent of Ratts bashers would have to admit that when the players are hitting targets and following instructions we look ok and nothing even close to worthy of the hysteria that followed last weeks loss.

Play with ticker and kick straight and all of a sudden the game plan looks ok even against our bogie team playing the brand of footy we hate.

Shame the players took a week off last week.

Still want to blame the players...fair enough....I see it differently....we played more confident direct footy today whilst last week we were lost in trying to work out what the scum would do...should just worry about what we're doing...keep it simple!

Personally I think it the first time he has got team selection for the modern game right since he took over. Credit where credit is due. Well done Ratts!

Congratulations to the coach who was bagged last week after teams -gutsy selection on thursday night made a statement to all the team -continued in TV interview after the game

Good interstate win and intensity right on

Backed second gamer and first gamer to play in defence - more run out of defence with lucas

Now to get bower back

Should be a good game next Monday week.

Nah i think i am right. Last week were half asleep this week we forced turnover after turnover which allowed us to play more direct. We are pretty good at scoring off the turnover. One of our strengths. Last week in our sleepy state we hardly caused a turnover.

I agree Psycho the team balance was better this week. A tall will have to go if we want to bring in Waite and Bower.

Go Blues !

I agree the blame should be shared, and finally something is starting to happen, the players are getting dropped for not playing to the standard they should be. (Although i would have chosen one maybe 2 others to drop this week).

I will cancel my membership if he coaches us.

Well, putting aside the fact that he coaches Collingwood and can't keep his gob shut when he needs to, he's the extraverted, assertive type that could really get this club moving. It is not an indictment on Ratten, merely the acknowledgement that we are a club of youngsters primarily made up of introverts. I don’t know how far a passive coach will take this club.

Come on, Ratten just copied Melbourne's gameplan with pace, he didn't think it up.

It was Adelaide who have been crap all year.

The next 3 weeks will tell the story, Cats, Pies and Saints.... Lets see if he can pull 3 rabbits out of the hat..

The question is whether Ratten has what it takes to take Carlton all the way.

Although it is welcome - today’s win isn’t enough to create any kind of definitive answer.

Re the war - There is a pervasive sense of economic and military desolation that comes through at the time of the 17th Carlton flag.

It is like the people of this time have collectively experienced world-changing events that they clearly understand to involve things that have created a new kind of world that is very different indeed from the one that they had previously experienced.

Not surprisingly, it is a very apprehensive and uncertain world that exists at that time.

Old securities and certainties are nothing more than a receding memory.

But the fact that Carlton is fielding a team and winning a premiership - and quite possibly more than one flag over a period of a few years - obviously means that the scale of the destruction is limited.

Not surprisingly, it is also a very fearful time. People are very subdued. There is a considerable amount of economic hardship - But again, whether this is only due to wartime austerity or is combined with some kind of additional economic collapse is not clear. I suspect that both factors will be present.

I think that the conflict will be either started by a terrorist incident involving nuclear weapons.
Or else a Middle Eastern war that becomes bigger - such as an attack by Israel on Iran.

People badly underestimate just how far reaching a nuclear terrorist incident will be in our oil addicted and globalised economy.

There is nothing new about these things. They are all very plausible and well-known possibilities in the time in which we are living.

But the wildcard element that may send things spinning out of control and change the world as we currently understand it is a combination of Peak Oil, The after effects of the global financial crisis and the massive debt is has left behind - and the possibility of a rise of Islamic Fanaticism in what were once relatively stable middle Eastern oil producing nations.

The fact that Western governments - especially our own - have put the interests of oil companies ahead of economic and military security of their people by being so ridiculously oil dependant is something that will make the economic and physical effects of the war far worse than it need be.

For their own safety and well being I strongly urge people to do things in their homes and businesses that make them a bit more self sufficient - Recyling things - rediscovering thrift and saving and also being more respnsible for your own food supply - like growing vegetables and grinding grain for bread baked in the home are some things that will help.

In many ways the toxic corporate influenced choices that the governments today are making - especially in relation to oil - will magnify the hardships of tomorrow.

No, the question is why you didn't forsee us being 2-2 at this stage of the season.

Now there's a good poll:

Would you want Carlton to have a 17th premiership if it started WWIII?

No, he has done some good match ups and strategies before - you just tend to forget. E.g. Geelong game last year.
