Whale-Oil-Beef-Ucked. thornton i can handle, but waite (although i had heard elsewhere that he asked to be dropped) i just give up. houlihan scotland and walker stay. and still no hadley or hampson. like i said elsewhere, ratten can rant and rave, huff and puff, but no guts to take action. all piss and wind. adelaide will flog us

Ratts had to make this move...now he has his excuse if we get thumped....players missing etc...had to make up for Judd coming back somehow....

...sure - it's just uninformed opinion.

King Kerna I am with you man

With Waite I wonder whether his knee is right. Perhaps a longer rehab and a couple of games in the twos would have been better. And if anyone thinks he is a forward they havent been watching Carlton the last 5 years. He is an elite zone off defender. Just because he is mobile and 194cm doesnt mean he is versatile.

Thornton should have been dropped but he must be pretty pissed to see his name before Warnock, Houlihan, Carrazzo and Gibbs who also put in half arsed efforts.

Our mid field better be ready for some serious running. Our mids have been slaughtered by these guys. Thats where they have won.

If you wanted to make a statement you should have dropped Carrazzo. He was less than useless last week. Robinson, too. He brought plenty of intensity, but little else.

I sat at the gate and actually thought Robbo wasn't that bad, he certainly tried to move the ball fwd which is not what I can say for Mr Chip-it-Sideways-at-every-Opportunity Thornton

I don't know why people are calling for Robbo to be dropped. He has a fair dinkum crack, and his skills are quite good, especially in heavy traffic. I love having him in the side.
Yep agree, the side lacks c*nt and we want to drop a bloke that takes genuine pleasure in hurting others. I genuinely believe teams are as fresh as daisy's the week after playing us.

Doesnt matter. Opinions are opinions.

Thats what makes the world interesting
If you dont agree fine

I had opinions that Whitnall and Stevo were fat and the game had passed them by when they were still getting a game for Carlton.
Some posters disagreeand thought it was ill informed

Agree, but having listened to his press conference I thought the way he spoke there may have been more?

Guys like Jacobs, Browne, Hadley, Wiggins, Johnson and Anderson must consider themselves unlucky.

Should be a good Bullants game on TV this week!

Congrats to Simon White and best wishes on his debut.

Great to see Jeffy Garlett back as well.

Looking forward to seeing some more direct exciting footy. Yazz, Eddie and Jeffy together will be something to see.

No he won't, not around here. It's already happened. :donk:

We will absolutely smash them.... :thanks:

And if we don't it will not be because Walkers picked at CHB ,not because our forward line doesn't function, not because Judd is under done, not because Warnock is still inthe side, not because Gibbs looks at though he's lacking intensity, not because we turnover the ball....... and so on and so on....
If we lose it will be because we do not have the right stuff upstairs. And IMO no matter how much talent we have if our players can't be switched on upstairs ready to deliver, then we do have problems. Big Problems, that no matter who coached it wouldn't make a difference....Thats this week anyway... :yikes:

Neither should have been dropped. Would have tried TBird at FF for a couple of weeks and Waite should have been allowed to run along the open spaces as a winger. Dropping them was the simple solution. Experimenting during parts of the last three games would have been the more developmental solution.

As Doc says: who knows, without knowing what players individual roles and instructions are before a game. What looks strange from outside will make alot of sense from inside. I'm sure Waitey and T-bird understand well why they've been dropped and what's needed to come back.

Feel like we're going to bounce back and can't wait to see the game to:
* see White play for the first time
* watch how Garlett, Yazz and Betts go in the same team (been wanting this for some time)
* see Lucas get another game under his belt
* see what Ratts does with the very frustrating Adelaide game style ... he's got this game wrong before
* hopefully see the Blues stop playing reactive, opposition-focused footy and start to make the opposition worry about us for a change

What about walker? He was shocking!
Or Russell? Something like 8 turnovers for the night? Or warnock for just being crap????

Russell 87% disposal efficiency (All 3 games over 83%). Yes he made two mistakes that led to goals, but of the 3 clangers he has recorded against his name 2 were free kicks against.

Walker 47% disposal efficiency, 4 clangers and 0 free kicks against.

You still want to drop Russell? Who are you choosing to take his position?

Hard to argue with that Rafa. And we've all been praising JR for his evolution haven't we ? He's got a few credits in the bank, unlike others.

Would have liked to see Hadds (at the expense of Hoops) come in to dish it out to Juddy and Murph. If 206 doesn't show something this week, surely Sauce gets a gig next week ?

And those "efficiency" stats do not include kick outs as they are not possessions. Really JR has a problem kicking when he is the centre of attention (goal kicking or kickouts)

Ratten hinted at changes to the forward structure and was critical of our talls (in the ruck as well). I would not be at all surprised to find either Henderson or Ohalpin or both in the backline during this match. Obviously Walker wll not play CHB.

HMMMM ... :thanks:

I was as surprised as most but so what?

We have injected a hard bodied tall down back, who wants to play for Carlton and will be more than happy to try and play better footy than Thornton to do it. If he can it's a bonus.
We have injected into the midfield, one of the best midfielders going around and he will go OK.
We have injected pace and wow factor to go with the existing pace and wow factor we have in Betts and Yarran. If these kids are told to run riot, look out. IMO, Garlett has IT (whatever 'IT' is). He will be a bona fide star of this competition in the same way some of the other small indigenous players have been before him.

All we have to do now is win the clearances (which we are doing each week) and run the footy through the corridor. Gibbs take note! Walker take note! Houlihan take note!

Setanta will kick his 2-3 a week with the occasional 4-5, which is all we can ask of him. 45-70 goals in a year is a good output from a FF. The best thing about him, is that he rarely gets beaten in the air. So far this season he has conceded ONE contested mark. On EVERY other occasion, he has marked the footy or it has gone to ground. If that happens in front of goal, the smalls will have a feast.

They say we should never tip Carlton against Essendon* or Adelaide but I am hopeful. If we lose, we get overtaken on the ladder by Melbourne. That should be incentive enough.

They do, because it's disposal efficiency, and they're disposals.

I have a feeling we will see Ohailpin in the ruck if he doesn't get into the game straight away. It should have been done against Ess. Kreuzer and Warnock were not playing well. Anyway, that's in the past now.

I am also interested to see how we will work Betts, Yarran and Garlett into the team. Do you think Yarran might see some time in the backline? I remember seeing him run off half back in a pre season game. I hope we see Betts in the middle for longer a period too.

Welcome back Judd. Pity its against the team he hardly ever plays well against :donk:

take it one week at a time, not getting too far ahead of ourselves, team rules, blah blah...god onya coach

Dr.SHERRIN wrote:
Guys...basic understanding of footy clubs required. If they were asked to adhere to designated game day team rules and failed to carry out those instructions from the coaching staff throughout the game, then it justifies their omission. No one is being made a scapegoat. As senior players - Waite and Thornton would have recognised they put in below par performances. They wouldn't have been my choices to be dropped, but it does show you how far removed the supporter is from the happenings of selection (and always has been). For some reason there seems to be an unhealthy perception that paid up membership and participation on a Carlton related forum provides one with more than an opinion on team selection.

As an aside - very excited about seeing Simon White in the navy blue. A little concerned about his peripheral vision shortcomings but excited nonetheless!
