Not sure about you keogh, but I'm pretty keen on seeing the boy Judd get a game next week.

I reckon Gibbs needs a spell - probably help him more than not to freshen up. He looks so stale and lethargic no energy about him in the first three rounds. Carrazzo has gone backwards since his blinder against Richmond one more chance. Houlihan has had one bad game in three weeks and I wouldn't drop him.

We need to take some risks - play Thornton FF.

That would be a mistake. We need to settle our structure. We need to give our forward line time to work and learn to play with each other.

One of the things that annoys me about football these days is no one has any patience. Most people here can't see beyond the here and now.

Sorry mate - you see clubs like Essendon* for example taking risks and putting that tall lanky bloke at CHF and whallah all of a sudden there is a target.

We have no target in the forward line
We have no target in the forward line

What annoys me is that supporters accepting mediocrity.

So Thornton is the answer?

Wow, there you go.

Lets try Judd at Full Back and Warnock at Centre Half Back next week.

I didnt say it was an answer I said risks must be taken as that forward line is not functioning - it's no good.

No viable targets needs to be fixed.

So justify why you'd take that risk and play Thornton at FF.

Who are you going to remove from the forward structure? Setanta, Henderson or Waite? Or are you going to play 4 talls forward?

Jacobs is worse then Warnock, by far..

I just hope the players wake up next week, and realise it isn't the pre season anymore.

Waite is a swing man not a permanent viable target - Setanta is no good. Forget about him; he's a fourth string forward at best - be honest with yourself.
He is nothing more than a pinch hitter.

We need a target - Hendo needs time but atm he is average against strong opposition and to his demise he takes out the best backman not Setanta. I like the kid - but in three years I'll like him even more....but for the moment changes need to be made to make that crappy forward line function.

And your evidence for that would be the 30 scoring shots against the Tiges, the 28 scoring shots against the Lions or the 25 shots last night???

Blue4 .. hit nail on head ... DISFUNCTIONAL FORWARD LINE! That is our greatest issue. We cannot put scoreboard pressure on the opposition right now and this is hurting us because they know it. IMHO, LAPPIN is the guy under pressure

We need a forward who can lead and demand the footy. Right now we have no-one who is willing to stand up and "control" the forwards. Setanta is like a rabbit caught in headlights, Kruezer unfortunately has no idea how to play KP and Waite is being used everywhere and not allowed to settle forward  . Thank God for Henderson right now but his only 20 and will need time to fill out, but is showing plenty. Betts & Yarran can't do what we need right now.

You speak of the new young coach - who is hidden from us at the moment - but be assured that he will appear soon.

However most people will not see this young man as exceptional or special in any way at all.

His appointment will actually be a rather underwhelming event to the footballing fraterinty.

As I have previously stated - Carlton will lose a string of games - culminating in a very bad loss to St Kilda - before improving in the second half of the year.

But of course - these early losses will cost us a spot in the final eight. 2010 is to be a very mediocre year - where the St Kilda loss will be the low water mark.

If we were to ensure that this particular worldline was not to become a reality for Carlton - then is was extremely important that we beat Essendon* tonight.

So if you are upset with Ratten now - then you will be apopleptic after the coming month or so of football misery.

As dissappointing as this time is - of our losses in this period wont be particularly bad - except for the St Kilda one which will be a 70 point blowout..

Given these circumstances, obviously, the calls to sack Ratten will reach a fever pitch in coming weeks.

But our longer term prognosis is a very good one - and this unpleasant period that I have warned people about for a number of months now is unfortunately also a very necessary period of football suffering.

This is an important time where we will distinguish the wanted from the unwanted, the valuable from the relatively valueless.

In the ancient agricultural practice of winnowing, people exposed harvested wheat to the wind so that the chaff blew away - leaving the valuable grain behind.

The talent that we need for the future is with a few exceptions already here - and this is a painful but necessary time of moulding and shaping - to form a Carlton team that will do glorious things in coming seasons..

The essence of optimism is that it takes no account of the present, but it is a source of inspiration, of vitality and hope where others have resigned; it enables a man to hold his head high, to claim the future for himself and not to abandon it to his enemy.

Ive said before that what we are going through now will only be a short but very sharp period of grief - compared to what we have endured since 2002.

Unfortunately this has to happen if we are to implement the necessary changes.

Some people are immersed in the present - but others can see the bigger picture.

I hate enduring the football suffering as much as anybody - but at least I am bouyed by future hopes of sunny football days of Blue glory - seen through the mind's eye.

So the forward line is the problem.... And just where do the forwards get there opportunities from?
We can say that its not working, but if we kicked goals instead of points early then i suspect that theory goes out the door.
Geelong have Mooney and Hawkins and they seem to be going alright. Are those two really such super forwards?
Our problems are in the heads and hearts of our players, not the players themselves. knock Carlos all you like but he is one that always gives and his energy is what our other so called named players need.
I think that the time has come for Ratts to move Waite back until Bower returns. If not then just settlehim somewhere and find a suitable replacement for our one tall backman out.
I'd like to see Hammer or Austin played whilst Bower is out. Not a smallish player like Armfield/Anderson. We need to know where Austin and Hammer stand we need toknow if they will be part of our future. This is the year we need those answers. So if we are going to take a backward step this year, let it be to accelerate our position for 2011 onwards.
The MC and Ratten are responsible for putting a team and stragedy out on the park. If the players can't deliver on it, then so be it....But without truly knowing our own artillary we can only point fingers at everyone and no one.

Firstly, Henderson doesn't take the oppositions best backman. Fletcher manned him for most of last night, but he always plays on the 3rd best forward so that shows what Knights thinks of the hierarchy in our forward line.

From what I can gather then, you're proposing Thornton at FF, Henderson at CHF and Waite floating, with Yarran and Betts and a resting midfielder or Robinson maybe?

I don't really see how its any more potent than we have at the moment, considering you're taking away out leading goalkicker this season so far. Not to mention you're also taking away our most experienced and reliable defender.

The problem with a forward structure is rarely the forwards. It has more to do with whats happening in the midfield and last night we didn't get enough of the ball and our delivery was terrible.

The here and now has been dragging on for quite a while now.
BTW, Ratten's successs in the last two and a bit years have been primarily due to Fev and Judd. I said this last year and I'll say it again. I was always excited about how Ratts was going to coach sans those two. He cannot coach. He gets stage fright against Ess & Adel & StK & Syd (minus one aberration last year)

We got our hand on the football unless I was watching another game; we win clearances very well. I agree that delivery is very sub standard but so is the off the ball movement by our tall forwards. It's farcical.
