I can't see what the problem is. His contract is not up until the end of the year. His manager knows there is a good chance he will do well for the Blues this year and should figure prominently in the B&F. His stocks are only going to rise. The club and the supporters want him to sign but his manager holds the strings to some extent. Bradley never use to sign before he was up to the due date.

Suck it up and stop worrying about something we have no control over.

Regards Cazzesman

I think what maybe unsettling for some is that Swann basically gave the public impression back at the start of February that Gibbs was all but re-contracted but now it seems the process is in a state of limbo.

Most supporters would accept that Bryce loves being at Carlton and more than likely will re-sign with us but there is a lot of money on offer from a number of sources which may come into play.

Che sera sera.

Firstly, I just explained that he looked no more uncomfortable than anyone else who's asked about their contract status. It didn't appear he was hiding anything. I think a few people weren't impressed with his interview, but that wasn't solely based on his response to his contract status.

His Dad and Bryce have both been on record repeatedly as saying he'll be a one club player. Obviously things change and the unexpected happens, but I have faith that as long as we're offering a fair deal he'll sign. I don't believe a return home looms at all.

Contract negotiations generally play out over time. There is plenty of time for this to get done. As I explained, and you acknowledged, the same fear was going on with Murphy two years ago and it all turned out fine. It was a complicated deal.

This very thread started with Swann saying it was close and as Cazz just pointed out, it doesn't really suit Gibbs to sign early when his value is still rising. The longer it takes the more leverage they have to negotiate from.

I'd imagine the deal is 85-90% done, maybe more, and they're haggling over the minor details. They may have even put it on hold until mid-season to allow Bryce to start the season without the worry of it. As you just pointed out we may be into someone ourselves and uncertain about how much we'll have to offer over the next few years. We may be trying to front load his contract while we have space.

Anything could be happening and I don't see the point in getting bent up about it now.

If they get Ablett for 1.5 million, they can't go around offering everyone else ridiculous money. Their cap increase is not that amazing. Gibbs, or any other player, would not want to move for a meagre increase.

I hope he'll stay but if he wants to go, as long as we get quality for him, que sera sera.

My sentiments exactly. I mean, Gibbs is a gun and I really really hope he stays, but if he choses to leave, then good luck to him. As long as we get acceptable compensation from GC for him, then meh... Its not as if we're bereft on midfield talent.

I wonder what would suffice if he were to leave?

Crows - Dangerfield?

Port - Boak?

GC - 2 1st round picks?

Every player in the histor of the world says "we are working through it at the moment and "hopefully" we get it sorted".

..in a roundabout way you've said all that's needed to be said.. ..Swann's already given reassurance.. ..we also know we've got cap room.. ..frankly not worried about the Gibblet moving..

But not all players wait til the end of the year when they're value is higher. Club would surely prefer to put this to bed sooner than later. Swann said it was close and now who knows? It's been a while since Swann's comment.

Reality is we don't know. You yourself said 'you imagine'.

One eye open, as I said.

Interesting listening to a Hawthorn official on SEN at the moment. The topic of Buddy's contract has come up and the official is saying that is more the manager and the environment of two new clubs that is causing the hold up in Buddy's contract at the moment.

I heard the interview, sounds like all clubs are going through the same thing. He said that they would love to announce soon some re-signings but the current climate is changing things.
Ultimately, it is the player who has the final say. Makes you realise what good character Kreuzer has, i heard him interviewed after he re-signed and he said his contract took a couple of weeks. Wish they were all as simple and easy as his.

Ultimately they will sign with their currents clubs, but they are also entitled to get an idea of what they are worth in the market and then come up with a suitable deal.

All part of the contract meryr go 'round.

Gone are the days when a player, ala Bruce Doull, would walk in to the CFC offices, ask how much they are willing to pay him, agree to it straight away and sign right there and then.

I'm confident that Gibbs will be a Carlton player next year and for many years to come.

Would it really hurt so have Gibbs on his toes over the next 8 weeks or so?? I think not...

Sign him up mid season I say.. He ain't going anywhere if he wants to be a premiership player.

Spot on Yazz.

If you want a flag during you career you'll need to stay cause you wont get one at either of the new clubs for a decade.

Yablett has already got the double so he's going.

I want Gibbs to hurry up and sign but I realise why he's waiting.

I heard over the weekend that Gibbs has not signed beyond this year. Is anyone concerned out this in relation to Gold Coast thieves. Who also might be a target?

I think they might be interested in Gary Ablett but I am not 100% sure.
