That might explain why Verbs wasn't at the game.

Good player.

Rich is the most overrated midfielder this side of Daniel Wells.

Has feet of clay -no second gear- and no right foot if you catch him inside.

Rich being found out big time in year 2 - ineffective until the pace went off the game. Yarran please.

Maybe so, but that's twice he's turned in a big last qtr against us after being unsighted to help beat CFC

Inaccuracy and Brown combined made up the difference.
We were wasteful at the start, but also in our purple patch in the third term we could have slammed home one or two more goals in that time. Just like the final last year, we wasted opportunities and they came back to haunt us. We shouldn't be happy with this loss, although we shouldn't be entirely disappointed. There was a lot to like about the Blues tonight.

I thought our forward line is developing nicely. Henderson and Setanta gave us 7 goals between them, provided contests, pressured opponents and had a real crack tonight. Betts had a disappointing night kicking 0.4, and hopefully he can make amends next weekend. Also liked the way the midfielders would run hard and provide goals for us too. If anything that alone will be a strength against the Bombers next week.

Our backline was good I thought. Make no mistake, there is a reason why Brown is being compared to Wayne Carey (even if it is considered a silly comparison). Just the way he is able to slot goals from anywhere in and outside 50 with precision and take the strong grabs means he is a challenge for any backman. Fevola was well-held, although to be honest he played second fiddle to Brown tonight. But on the other hand, Fev kicked 2 goals in the first quarter then only kicked one more after that.

The midfield stood up tonight I thought. Got overrran in the last quarter, but the signs were definitely there that Gibbs and Murphy, and even McLean stood up in Judd's absence. Kreuzer was his usual, reliable, no-frills, hard-running self, and Warnock looked alright in the ruck too. Just on Robbie, I wouldn't be kicking to him overhead too often. Doesn't seem to have the overhead strength quite yet, and I noticed on a number of occasions that his lack of strength in that area got exposed. It's not a knock on him, as I'm sure it will continue to improve as the year goes on.

Again, I'm not happy about the loss but I'm not disappointed. Plenty of positives to come out of tonight. I look forward to next week when the boys will be out for blood against Essendon*.

McLean was good again tonight - without taking anything from the other mids...

1 hour delay just finished.

so, mixed feelings with this one.

are we building a genuine rivaly against these guys? last 4 games have been classics really.

my thoughts on the game:

Judd plus bower = 6 goals min to our team, but when is any team ever at full strength?

my preseason thoughts of setanta seem to be holding up - only too weeks i know, but he will kick 50 this year.

he was only so-so and still snagged 4 and could have had 8.

jonno brown is a true star of the game.

if we can get match ups right we will do damage - murphy and simmo's purple patches in the 3rd were sesnsational.

we have no idea how to maintain momentum.

how many times will we storm back into a game yet frezze when we draw level?

so much potential in this teamm- it's scary. brisbane WON'T win a flag with this lot. i'm sure of it.

an encrouaging loss. i'm thinking top four may be a bit out of reach this year but 5th-6th is about right.

can't wait to see judd running around with brock.

dissapointed we could'nt run it out.

oh and @#$%&! off bandwagon commentators!

What the hell were you smoking tonight? Can I have some?

The funny thing is, Setanta kicked more tonight than Fev used to kick when playing on Merrett - Go figure......

how about if you just spew up because you haven't got the stomach for the long haul?

IT WASN'T THAT BAD!!!!

sure it could have been better, but SUCK IT UP AND MOVE ON!

My post was directed at the supporters who are happy with honourable defeats.
It's a bit like junior footy....it's not about winning...well why do we have score boards?
My stomach's fine...watch out for those furballs

tell how many forwards in the league would stop brown with no thrid man up?

in thought t-bird did every thing humanly possible to make a contest without giving up a free.

matty scarlett would have been pushed just as hard.

Gibbs, Kruezer, Jamo, Murphy, Scotland, McLean & O'Haulpin were probably the only winners who can hold thier heads up.

so 7 out of the 22 were okay in your opinion, yet we had more scoring shots that a certian top 4 team on their own turf eith the best CHF and FF in the league running around, even though we played with out our captain and our best attacking defender.

things are looking pretty good then eh?

Was a dissapointing loss but with some encouraging signs

i think bower was a huge loss tonight match up wise wrong game to loose him with 2 power forwards he would have been the perfect match to brown not saying Brown would have played well but may have reduced his effectiveness a bit.
Jamo played well and kept Fev in check 6 possies 3 goals i would take that

We had our chances dominated clearances and should have been even or in front at half time but for our poor kicking at goal.

from where i sat watching the game we looked pressured and hurried and there where a few missed shots that the player going for goal had more time and should have slotted the goal instead they looked rushed.

Look encourging signs and hopefully we can take something out of this game and smash the Bombers

2-3 with a close loss to the lions and judd back will put us in good a good position to be competative in the 4-5 games after which are also tough games

Not to mention that most, if not all of the 7.1 was kicked from 45+ out (with at least a couple on the boundary 50+ out) - one of the best goal kicking performances I've seen for a long while (fev usually had a few shots from closer in throughout a match)

Despite us losing Fev, the trend continues between these two sides. It's always close, and last year in round two, we were the ones to beat them by exactly 19 points. There will be some good battles between Carlton and Brisbane over the next few years. We will outlast them though. Brown is ageing, as is Fev, and they kicked 10 between them tonight.

Also in addition those having a go at Waite and 206

Waite was a bit proppy after last weeks game so was prob not going to be effective in todays game after only his second season game after knee surgery and also 206 has only played his second semior game after 18 months on the sidelines and he actually allows kruiser to play other roles around the ground

geez how good was kruiser he can just do anything and is so comitted to the cause

Yep, kicked 3 last week but tonight kicked more goals against a better side.
Looking forward to seeing him in the forward line this year.

am i the only one who thinks anderson has shown plenty in the last 2 weeks? only flashes, mind you but flashes i didn't know he had i him.

sure he undoes anything good he has done within 20 seconds, but that sure doesn't mean his is a lost cause.

he has the potential to grow, deision making and disposal is sus, but i have no problem finding out if he's goinig to make it this season.

i've seen plenty of players take a while to really shine and he has some potential. more than i hoped for.

still at the moment i'd rather someone a bit steadier in the ones but they have to grow somewhere.

i think hendo and yarran will be maybe as damaging as brown and acker one day.
wow 19 and 20? shit
