That might explain why Verbs wasn't at the game.

Or the fact I have cancer and was too sick to attend tonight.

Bower was a big loss as T-Bird is our third and floating defender - which meant that we had to play Ando (needs to improve) and Walker (not his natural game) as third floating defenders. also mids did not work hard enough in the first half to get back and crowd their forward line.....

Forward line functioned ok - will take time. would love someone to kick straight though.

Waite second up was always going to struggle - same with 206.

Brown - absolute star and kept them in it in the third qtr - and ultimately would get 4 of the six brownlow votes on offer tonight.

tried hard - very disappointing to get beat by 20 pts when we had our lead but we had our chances and simply did not take them.... if we were able to put more scoreboard pressure on them earlier on then maybe we might have been better placed....although they still had Brown!

move on - not happy but better than the doomsday predictions......

smash that mob next week - massive game

Proud of the boys!!!!!!!!
Only lost b/c Brown was unstoppable - T-Bird did the best he could but was clearly outplayed by a man in red hot form. Bower would have gone onto Brown if he was fit
Credit must be given to Ratts he re-jigged things after half time and got us playing through simmo and using the outer-side of the ground. he gets criticised a lot on this forum so how about some credit where its due

Boy we could use a true power forward

Agree about everything except for the power forward comment. I actually liked the unpredictability of the forward line, apart from the accuracy and the lack of F50 pressure.

Sure Brown killed us in the end, but we should have been 4-5 goals up before he started to come good in the 2nd, we wasted it pretty much every opportunity we had in the game except for the 3rd 1/4 where we dominated completely.

Is it just me or does anyone else see us slaughtering every other midfield in the comp once Judd comes back? Of course there's Murph and Gibbs and some cameos by Scotland and Carrots when we need them (Scotto was great tonight), but did you see the hard in-and-under work done by McLean tonight?

I don't reckon most of us will truly appeciate the work this guy does until Juddy's back in the team, delivering the ball with a bit of space. I just don't see how anyone is going to stop our midfield when Juddy no longer has to be the contested possession winner like he has been over the last 2 years.

Those who reckon McLean was a wasted trade will be eating their words soon, I can guarantee that.......

Disappointing loss, but more positives to come out of it than anything. So many wrote us off without Fev, and I reckon if the Lions are a top 4 side like everyone is saying then there is no chance we will miss the finals.

Go Blues!!

*edit F50 not D50

Fair enough Hanna, but at the moment we just dont have the cattle and talent to maximise on that dominance upfield. I'm finding it very frustrating. We gave them that game!

Very disappointing. When you look at it they had a full 4 day break and one guy on the bench before half time. They were a lot cleaner, knew what they were doing and didn't panic ..... and then there was Brown. Again very disappointing and a lot of work needed to become competitive against the top teams.

And this pretty much sums up where we are at...

Geez you're a drama queen!!

4 day break - who the @#$%&! doesn't know how to count? :garthp:

Thought it was a great against the odds effort by us, if we had have kicked straight we would have won, end of story. Yet the media will talk about how great Brisbane are, crock of shit, we are in their league that's for sure.

Some of our players have had their chance though and should be replaced, Anderson just isn't a footballer, pure and simple, the sooner we realise that just because he plays for us makes him special isn't true the better.

agree - not too many players would have stopped brown tonight - kicked several goals from outside 50, on the boundary, etc - amazingly accurate 7.1

Agree 100%, but i don't reckon it needs to be a key forward.

We had so many chances tonight from our other smaller forwards and midfielders and we blew it.

If we had've been 11.3 and not 3.11 we would have been celebrating a 10 goal win and Brown would have kicked maybe 3 or 4. They got their tails up and it was catch-up footy from then on.

It's such a momentum game these days, you can't blow opportunities or you'll pay big time.

Inaccuracy and Brown combined made up the difference.
We were wasteful at the start, but also in our purple patch in the third term we could have slammed home one or two more goals in that time. Just like the final last year, we wasted opportunities and they came back to haunt us. We shouldn't be happy with this loss, although we shouldn't be entirely disappointed. There was a lot to like about the Blues tonight.

I thought our forward line is developing nicely. Henderson and Setanta gave us 7 goals between them, provided contests, pressured opponents and had a real crack tonight. Betts had a disappointing night kicking 0.4, and hopefully he can make amends next weekend. Also liked the way the midfielders would run hard and provide goals for us too. If anything that alone will be a strength against the Bombers next week.

Our backline was good I thought. Make no mistake, there is a reason why Brown is being compared to Wayne Carey (even if it is considered a silly comparison). Just the way he is able to slot goals from anywhere in and outside 50 with precision and take the strong grabs means he is a challenge for any backman. Fevola was well-held, although to be honest he played second fiddle to Brown tonight. But on the other hand, Fev kicked 2 goals in the first quarter then only kicked one more after that.

The midfield stood up tonight I thought. Got overrran in the last quarter, but the signs were definitely there that Gibbs and Murphy, and even McLean stood up in Judd's absence. Kreuzer was his usual, reliable, no-frills, hard-running self, and Warnock looked alright in the ruck too. Just on Robbie, I wouldn't be kicking to him overhead too often. Doesn't seem to have the overhead strength quite yet, and I noticed on a number of occasions that his lack of strength in that area got exposed. It's not a knock on him, as I'm sure it will continue to improve as the year goes on.

Again, I'm not happy about the loss but I'm not disappointed. Plenty of positives to come out of tonight. I look forward to next week when the boys will be out for blood against Essendon*.

Past 5 games v Lions, 3 Blues (including 2 @ Gabba), 2 Lions. Lions wins with Bower either out or on one leg.

Brown is a champion, THE difference b/w the sides. Our match winner sitting in the stands.

They will not beat us for a very long time.

Hendo 3, Fev 3. Don't give me this shite about missing Fev.

Niether of those sides on th park tonight will threaten for the flag anytime soon

Judd and Bower play we win but to be good you have to cover the losses

we are not there yet we are two to three quality players short and walker and waite missing so much footy doesnt help

good sides dont miss the chances when they present themselves you sense the scars of days gone by are still quite deep

Poor disposal across the board. To single out a player for poor disposal is weak. Our general disposal under pressure continues to be poor.

Brown slaughtered Tbird and can only hope young Hendo develops into half the player Browney is and he'll be great for us.

Murphy Brock Simmo Carrotts were great for us.

5 day break vs 7 day break. Interesting.
Brisbane finish games well. We needed a good lead at 3/4 time in that humidity 5 v 7 days break or not. Unfortunately we kicked poorly at goal making it hard.

Good player.

Rich is the most overrated midfielder this side of Daniel Wells.

Has feet of clay -no second gear- and no right foot if you catch him inside.

Rich being found out big time in year 2 - ineffective until the pace went off the game. Yarran please.

Call that a good game???? 3 goals 11 at half time??

How can we expect to win against a good side kicking like that?

I hate Brisbane more than Collingwood x Essendon* squared!! We really needed that one given our next few weeks and could have done it. Cr*p kicking at goal like like that will leave us high and dry every time.

anderson is not gonna make it! that much is clear, 206 is pitifully weak in marking contests. we kicked to him 4 or 5 times in contested situations the result was the same every time.. a lions takeaway... hands of jelly. how long can we persist with the irishman at FF? an honourable loss all in all, but now next week is a must win against the rex hunts...
