I would really, really love it if .....

Brown & Fev kicks 5+ goals each against us ............. yet we smash them by 36 points + ..... with at least a dozen goal scorers :smoking:

Gotta win this one.

Wet and slippery it will be.
Not ideal conditions for big fellas and their overhead marking.
Not bad for big fellas and chest marking...Brown does that a lot.

Pace will win this one if it plays out as a slugfest.

If Army and Browne play, then I expect that to be an advantage for us.
This implies Jamo and Bower are out. Then who will take Fev and Brown in wet conditions?
Reminds me of our situation in the elimination final barring the weather.
Thornton, Walker and Waite to take on Brown and Fev in the wet, with Russell, Army and probably Houla on the flanks.

Our fwds would be Setanta and Hendo as the mobile talls and the rest will be the slippery ground dwellers:
Betts, Yarran, Robinson, and a mix of the midfielders Scotland, Gibbs, Murphy, Simpson, Carrazzo, McLean and Joseph.

I was always quietly confident in a win if both sides played at full strength.
If Jamo and Bower are missing and it's wet, I am even more confident in the win at the Gabba.
The 5 day turnaround after a stellar last quarter effort by the Lions last week should play into our hands.

Blues to win by 4 goals.

GO BLUEBAGGERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in Brisbane now ready to scream the roof off the Gabba tonight.

I am also concerned about the wet conditions especially with a forward line of Waite, Sentanta, Kruezer. For that reason I am expecting up to 2 changes before the game starts, otherwise their backline will run us off our feet.

I'm not sure that we'd be worse off than Brisbane. Fev's is very much a marking forward - he's not great below his knees when the ball's on the ground. His mercurial soccer kicks perhaps just serve to hide the fact that he can't pick the ball up as smoothly as you'd expect of a 190/1cm guy. Browny would also be better off on a fine day, though he's no mug below his knees.

I hope someone forces Santy to wear long stops. Last year at the Gabba, he slipped around like someone wearing leather-soled shoes on ice. But if he can keep his feet, then slippery conditions may work to his advantage. He's likely to draw Merrett, and he's fast. Merrett has to be careful not to slip when he takes off after Santy on the lead. As for Waite, I don't think he'll be bothered by the wet all that much. He's very much a straight-line player, and now he's recovering from the knee reco that's advisable. He's not likely to lose his feet trying to change direction as that's not his style.

But unless there's actually rain during the game or water on the ground, there's not likely to be much of an effect anyway. Modern grounds are so well drained that you wouldn't be able to tell if it rains on the day of the game.

Sigh... why would we fly up two players we have no intention of playing? Anyone?

Because we wouldn't.

Yep, the few hundred that would cost would break a club that spends millions a year.

Wouldn't help Bower's quad tear, for one.

Wouldn't hurt it significantly, either, especially if it'll take 4-6 weeks to recover anyway. And taking an injured player on what amounts to an expenses-paid holiday that falls outside the salary-cap has its psychological benefits, and putting them in the coaches' box helps to give them a wider education.

I'm not saying that they're injured. I wouldn't have a clue. But if you ask any sports punter, you'll find out that when there are whispers about the fitness of important players they'll wait until the final team is announced to place their bets, and they'll still factor in that those players are probably not at full fitness anyway. If you're going to put money on the game, I'd suggest you wait rather than bet on faith, or on the strength of your assumptions about whether the club would take injured players on an interstate trip.

If Bower and Jamo are out, we're no chance of winning.

One thing I've learned in life from bitter experience is never trust weather reporters.

Is there anyone in Brissie that can confirm the current conditions???

Also I am a bit confused as to how they will line up if bower and jamo are both out.
Will setanta and hendo go back?
Or are we expecting Joey and army to take fev?

Seems to me that elevating White might be a smart move given Jamo and Aussie's continued injury niggles.. (going on TC reports of White's progress)

Anderson on Bench? Any player who makes poor decisions and has average execution should not be playing. Turnovers decide games. He's a much improved player and really like his "gutsiness" but he still has a bit to go.

IMO I'd like the MC to select Garlett in this team. Two of Betts, Yazz and Garlett should be on the ground and fully charged at all times. The forward pressure against Richmond fluctuated depending on whether Eddie and Yazz were both on the ground and whether Yazz had puff left. Only having two doesn't allow us to do that.

I've heard Jamo is fine. Is there a source stating that he isn't?

Roll the dice and bring smalls in for the talls. They will have heavier legs than us late in the game. If we have more runners then we should be able to run over them.

The big test is keeping with them for the first 3 quarters. I am a fan of only having two talls back in most cases, 3 only if required.

We should only pull Waite, hendo or Carlos out of the forward line if both Bower and Jamo are out. I would swing Waite behind the ball a times in quarters when we are trying to slow it up.

Arrived in Brisbane this morning, any rain from the morning has surely dried by now.

Currently very overcast but extremly humid.

I wouldn't be surprised though if it rains later in the day as there are some dark clouds hovering.

I think for us to be any chance we need one of Bower or Jamo to play.

If they both did happen to miss, it will be extremely tough.

I think we're a puncher's chance in this one if we do a reasonable job down back and keep within reach at 3/4 time.

Oddly, that warm night last week may be a real blessing for us tonight.

The odds of us being $3.40 are flat out crazy. Value bet of the round.
