Geez, 12 months on I look a bit silly. We seem to pull out this signal when we want more options to present. I'm not paying much attention to how the signal is given, perhaps left hand means one signal and right means another? Anybody want to have a look at the variations and how the tactics panned out thereafter?

Sorry DUC.

If richmond can score the bulk of their goals for the game after the 'ball-up', I see this being a major issue in the next 2-months against quality opposition. How can this NOT be considered a massive problem by the MC?

A touch arrogant, but it kept me liquored up.

It was only Richmond.

It's a sign for Carlton supporters everywhere to go get a drink or take a whizz because they aren't going to enjoy the opposition getting a run on.

The funny thing is when they started putting the ball up in the air, the Carlton supporters around me were all screaming, "Now watch Richmond kick the next 3 goals". Unfortunately the Carlton supporters were wrong because Richmond kicked 4 goals.

After the ball is put in the air, the team is flat as a tac and there is no movement. The only option is sideways OR the old local footy kick down the wing to a pack of players.

Apparently the Brions kicked a lot of their goals in red time on Saturday night.

I nearly fell off the couch thursday night when Thornton Held the ball up with 5 minutes to go..
IMO we had complete control until he did that i can understand if the tempo goes there way but when your in control whats the point.
Hopefully that time was obvious enough to teach him :)

Exactly Murph. Except I fell off my seat when Thornton did it as he was right in front of me. It happens every time. Still, better they learn against Richmond than Brisbane.

They didn't learn all last year, or the year before, etc. I don't suspect anything's changed. Expect at least 2 goals to be kicked on us in red-time this week, mark it down.

Time on is 15 - 20% of game time, don't expect the team to shut out opps for that long week after week

I can understand holding the ball up when the opposition has a bit of a run on and we want to deny them possession for a few minutes or until the end of a quarter, but what really annoys me is when they hold it up and start chipping it sideways when WE have all the momentum. I really don't get it

It's been happening for years......remember Harry Madden deliberately punching the ball over the boundary from throw ins?

What about when a player holds the ball up and then they continue to play as the were before !

That is breaking all the rules and 5hits me. Surely holding the ball up means slow it up. By changing is only going to confuse fans that have started growling.

Only the fans that notice club. Judging from this thread it seems most missed Thornton kicking the ball forward 50m after he held the ball up.

I think tonight we saw the worst of what has been an epidemic at our club for years. For some inexplicable flowering reason, we always seem to cough up goals either on the siren, or with seconds to go.

This plus our inexplicable slow starts to matches still needs work. :banghead:

I have nothing against a slow start in a pre-season game, they're managing their output. I do have a problem with burning out because they under-estimated the conditions, however. :(

Or Rhys picking the ball up from the boundary once the ball has gone over the line and walking away from teh boundary ump and almost refusing to give it back to him.

That's when the players were the entertainment, and the umpires...well they were told in no uncertain manner to get [REDACTED] (other than James whop told Bartlett where to go)... then the umpires got jack of that and forced the AFL to acknowledge that the umpires should be the cetntre of the universe....and the rest is history.
