the point not to spend all your petrol tickets, once spent they are gone. Its about learning not to go past the point of no return and see a large lead dribble away - oh and I am certain that Warnock and especially Murph and Waite, meant this team had to be very aware of their energy levels.

I was rapt that we beat Richmond - but I keep having to slap myself to remind me it was only Richmond. They are, were, and always will be pathetic.

I tend to agree with keogh that many questions still remain. Some players who have struggled, played quite well, but they usually struggle against top sides that pour on the pressure.

These players won't have truly arrived until they stand up to a side like Brisbane and come out on top. It will be very interesting on Thursday night.

Here was a kid a long way from home and with his first or second kick in AFL footy, he gets a spray and a dirty look from a so-called leader of the club.

One year later and that same kid looks like he's loving his footy playing with blokes who respect him and the jumper they play for.

In general terms yes, but do you honestly see this Richmond team as being capable of barnestorming to a win from a 10 goal deficit at 1/4 time.
It's about using common sense.

Pros

First 5 minutes were abouts as good as you could ask for.
Henderson...not big stats but I like big players who will chase little blokes and Henderson is my type of player because he has a great work ethic.
Mclean...woeful preseason but got hsi share of the footy and used it well by hand.
Kruezer....just a gun player and really took it to Simmonds with both skills and attitude.
Gibbs/Murphy....classy displays.
Setanta...worked well with his fellow forwards.
Yarran......bit of magic and I like when he brings others into the game rather than trying to go the highlight reel goal.
Eddie........put the booze cruise behend him and stitched up Connors and Farmer.
Jamo...key player, good to see him survive the game
Bower...nervous disposer of the footy but he continues to beat his man....
Warnock...good ball skills for a big man and allowed Kruezer some rest time but..see commments below
Carrazzo.....consistent player who is getting the rewards he deserves.

Cons...

Anderson....didnt look comfortable, lacks awareness and poise, not in my best 22 at this stage.
Warnock...some of his ruckwork wasnt real flash, taps went to opposing players etc.
Yarran..like to see him go at every contest, not just pick and choose when he wants to make the effort
Simpson....no right foot and turned the ball over on some forward entries
Walker...still finding his way in senior footy, disposal issues remain but I still rate him as a valuable player with plenty of upside.
Richmond are rubbish and as Keogh suggested should not be used a measuring stick.

Overall I was very happy with the result and gives me confidence we cabn do well vs Brisbane.

Yes I do, and any team that takes any other team lightly is just plain dumb. We might have [REDACTED] up, we might have coughed up too many goals but at least, as a club, we weren't dumb. mean, we only won by 54 points - flower weak as piss really. :garthp: I mean be truthful - until this weekend did you think Freo capable of giving Adelaide such a bath?

I actually tipped Freo thinking Adelaide were very underdone, but obviously not by that margin.

I agree that taking ANY team lightly is dumb, that's why we should've put the result beyond doubt in that 1st qtr when we had all the momentum and then maybe put a few numbers behind the ball for the remainder of the game.
Never give a sucker an even break.

The idea of slowing it up and hold possession wasnt to give up a couple of goals. It was to save some juice and rob them of the ball and any momentum. We didnt do it well enough and they got a goal or two. We need to get better at it as it is a handy tool. Ask Essendon*.

Ratts would be fed all sorts of indicators. He would know which way the game is going and he (and on field leaders) made a call. We went on to win by ten goals. Running over the Tigers in the last. We used the same tactics last year against the Cats (one of the better sides we apparently wont get away with it against).

Pros:

We won

Cons:

Cannot gauge based on that performance
We definitely lack pace. Would love to see some more pace in the side...Garlett possibly.
Hadley and Mclean in the same side will not work against most sides (maybe the saints and swans are the exceptions where it may) so maybe Garlett for Ando this week.

Pros
McLean did the hard work and is a very good handball
Warnock, very willing and agile for a big bloke
Hendo - good discipline
Yarran - very classy but don't try to take one handers unless you need to
Very solid win

Cons
Like to see Warnock's marking and taps improve. For his height I expected him to dominate the taps more ag medicre oppo. Also not sure where Hammo is. He is a fave but we won't be keeping 4 ruckmen and we gave up a lot for Warnock. Having said that I was generally impressed with Warnock and think he will improve dramatically over the year
Simmo - great player but v. disappointing to see exp. players who don't have, or won't use their right foot. Really if Setanta can kick 50 metre goals having not ever kicked a footy 6 years ago, why hasn't Simmo developed a right boot in 8 years.

Anyway, as for potential cons, lets wait for them to happen. I can see us at 3-0

Would Judd and Armfield do?

gerryatric, you may want to watch the game more closely...simmo used his right foot on numerous occasions (ok 3 or 4) ...good to see simmo get going early this year. I reckon last 2 years it's taken him till round 4 to play a decent game.

Yeah he used it Sticks, but not very effectively. He is a very dedicated player and I would just like to see him be an effective and natural kick on his right rather than awkward and reluctant. Kicking both feet effectively is absolutely achievable but left footers often don't seem to have a right foot.

Whats even scarier is members of the so called recruiting department making assertions or judgements after only one game!! :yikes:

Sorry Psycho it was just my attempt at some jesting for Gilly's amusement.

I guess you had to be there....................................hey wait a minute   ...............................Gilly have you ever seen Psycho and Jim from Sunbury in the same room at the same time?

I should have known it.............................

I told Gilly Jim's insight into all things Carlton reminded me of someone on TC and now the penny has dropped. At first I thought Jim was Keogh but now I'm not so sure. Mind you, judging by Keogh's last post I'm still undecided

I was also just stirring the pot but I will have to have a good look at myself if you are comparing me to Keogh!!!!
