REMEMBER YOUR ROOTS!

The reality is we aren't as good as Brisbane yet, despite beating them twice last year. No Judd will hurt us a lot more this week.

I disagree. We have more talent across the board than Brisbane + depth IMO.

Last night the Eagles were the winners for 3/4's of the game, like us in the final they faded in the last, that was purely fitness and as a result the supply to Brown/Fevola was unstoppable.

IF our fitness has improved we can win this game, fitness is the key to applying the pressure around the ground to stop the easy supply up forward. Four quarters of effort and a bit of tempo footy (Pre-season game plan) and it should be a close result either way.

Pretty simple really. If our fitness isn't up to scratch we will lose, the Lions are proving again how fit they are, and that's with half the team cramping.

Not really, most of their 22 was piss-farting around for 3 quarters. Intensity & work-rate went up and they broke away, with a slight fade from the Eagles.

What remains to be seen is if they shifted up to 3rd or 4th gear...

Two things we definitely need to do. Play a defensive forward on Drummond. He is the Lions barometer and just about most important player. The other is to play someone loose across half-back who is prepared to fill the space that Fevola leads into. Let Brown come up the ground and mark 70+ out from goal, just don't let him kick an easy ball to the leading full-forward.

Couldn't agree more.

They really set up play from half-back, either by running the ball forward with handball or Drummonds pin point passing. I'd like Carrots to fill that role, but we may need him in the midfield so maybe Anderson if he' keeps his place?

I'd like Thornton to play that loose man role with Bower and Jamo taking Fev and Brown.

We can rotate Carrazzo & Walker in the defensive forward role.

Also I'd like to see Bower at CHB or third tall because it allows him the opportunity to run of HB. Jamo is the primary stopper, and Thornton prefers to play a sweeping role. They compliment each other really well when it's structured as such.

Houlihan has done this before. Would we be losing his class if we get him to sacrifice his game by stopping Drummond?

Probably, but you're right he has done it before.

I wondered on Thursday night though if we should try to use Houla more to hurt teams. Work on strategies to free him up so he's the guy we look to off half-back.

I seem to remembr the Lions team being 'riddled by injuries' last time we played them up there as well, and we all remember how that ended up dont we...

Very true, not saying it is all said and done, to be the best, you must beat the best

They were all going down with cramp in the last - and they've only got a 5 day break. After last year, that means nothing. We'll have to get an 8 goal lead by the last before I'll relax.

Given their experience and age we'll have to play above our best for every minute of the game to get up.

Personally would prefer Lucas or Hadley in the side instead of Mitch but I suppose he deserves another week to show he won't always run around aimlessly.

Agree about Army for Ando (if fit)

Robbo on the other hand brings alot of hardness to the contest which is something we dont have alot of, excusing Brock, Carrots and Tex.

He has bulked up a bit over the pre season without losing much pace, before long he will be our barometer, our enforcer, as Rooke is for the cats. He just needs a bit more game time.

Good call. I liked what I saw on Thursday night - hard, tough and worked very hard. Will be a vital part of our side this year.

If we're not up by 36 points+ at 3/4 time I'll be very nervous. Brissy one of the best finishing sides in the comp, esp at Gabbatoir.

AJ on Black.

Joseph on Fev to niggle all game and Carlos to crash into his back to repay last year's favour.

they don;t have any decent small fwds so we could play AJ on Black. He has murdered us time and time again. Will be a tough game and will have to play at our very best to win....
