Anyone hear before the game last night Parko saying Gumbleton is a much better player than Henderson
Gumbleton proceeded to get about 3 kicks for the night and being beat by Lonergan not exactly a superstar.
Apart from being too far of the mark how can he tell when henderson has played 16 games and gumbleton 6 games

Is this the same Parko that was responsible for trading Massie for Eccles and giving up first round picks for Mansfield?????????

Parko had a massive hand in delivering 3 premierships.

Respect please!

True, and i will be forever grateful.
However, he was also responsible for our list being in such a terrible state when he retired.

If Kouta hadn't have gone down it could've been 4 premierships.

We were going to rebuild the right way starting with Goddard and Wells but Elliott and O'Reilly put a stop to that. Then Pagan went crazy with the axe.
Lots of reasons for our poor list after Parko.

The same Parko that was responsible for trading for Williams and Spalding and drafting recycled players in Rice, Clape, Manton etc.

If he's asked the question about Gumbleton and Henderson, he has to offer an opinion, and thats all it is.

Folly to come to conclusions based on one game esp when Gumby has had so many injuries

Gumby was unable to impose himself in any one on one contests last night. He's only young, had many injuries, and has showed a lot more in the few games he's played previously. So maybe, like Hendo and other KP players, he'll just take time ?

Liked the look of Hendo BTW

Was Parko just taking pressure off Hendo and putting it on Gumbo?

Parko has been going to the u/18 champs for ages and is entitled to an opinion, having seen Gumby taking on Tommahawk and co there.

Why is he wrong anyway ?....Gumby maY HAVE STRUGGLED THIS WEEK BUT HE HAS A LOT OF TALENT.

Parko has been responsible for a huge amount of success at Carlton , and is a very good commentator .
Certainly has more " footy smarts " than anyone I've noticed on TC .

At this stage in his career , Hendo hasn't done much to show he is going to be better than Gumbleton .

Round 1 2010, Henderson has shown considerably more than Gumbleton.

Gumby looks slow, unfit, lack of agility, lack of defensive ability, generally not up to scratch for AFL football.

It is only Round 1 though.

I think they will both develop into fine players but let's not forget two points:

Gumbleton was pick 2 in his draft year so the expectation is he will be a gun while Henderson went at pick 8

Gumbleton is a year older and therefore (injuries notwithstanding) should be physically more advanced than Henderson.

That said I can't understand why some posters automatically bag anyone who dares to say an opposition player is or will be better than one of ours, surely everyone is entitiled to an opinion?

I think David Parkin is a Carlton great and if he wants to put his two cents in why shouldn't he?????

Gumby impressed me a fair bit the year he was recruited. He played some pretty good games for Peel. I'm sure he would be very dangerous had he not been injured so much.
That said, if he's playing rubbish at the moment: Good! Now that he plays for the Scum, ...

Goddard and Wells would only have come about because we had just won the wooden spoon that year. And why? Injuries for one and no depth to replace any injuries.

Why no depth? Parkin had traded away a bunch of draft picks in the late 90's by which time in 2002 some would have been senior list regulars to provide depth.

Short memory. Must have a.

In exactly two weeks we will see them both on the ground at the same time...

As a football legend, David Parkin has every right to give his opinion on anything to with football!
Whether his opinion is right or wrong is irrelevant and only time will tell, but based on drafting position, he just might be correct.
What amazes me and continuously does however is that posters continuously want to bag legends off the game for expressing an opinion that might be against Carlton's interests! :hitcomputer:
Can't believe you started this thread Frankie. :yikes:
