Personally would prefer Lucas or Hadley in the side instead of Mitch but I suppose he deserves another week to show he won't always run around aimlessly.

Agreed. Thursday night was the end of our pre-season AFAIC.

This is a very important game with a tough run coming up we need to win as much games early on.

The positives team is confident.
Have a few more days to recover then Brisbane
Playing in the heat all preseason and last Thursday will acclimatise us to the hot weather in Brisbane
Team wants revenge for last years final lose

The negatives
We find it hard to stop Jonathan brown

Go blues must win

Shouldn't be changing a 10 goal winning team.

I'd have Houlihan and Anderson doing run with roles and would love to Gibbsy go head to head with Black.

They way to get Fevola off his game is to get inside his head and I'm sure we have enough ammunition to use. No room for matesy matesy stuff. We need to be ruthless. Get Fevola mentally off his game and it will put Brissy in a very uncomfortable position.

IIRC.....it was Bradshaw who tore us apart in that last qtr in the Finals; playing decoy to Brown.....or vice versa; but....if we can stop their supply by winning in the midfield......

I'd like to see Jamo on Fev and Bower on Brown, with Thornton playing loose to help out, but I think we'll go with Thornton on Brown.

Did JR do well on Black last year? With the type of game he plays I'm not sure Black is that easy to tag. As someone suggested maybe you try going head to head with him and exploit his lack of speed. Probably suicide though

No changes this week.

Jamo has to go to Fev.
Bower on Brown and AJ to Buchanan.

Thornton on Clark and can zone off with Waite dropping back to help when needed as will Warnock.

Forget tagging as we need to dominate in the midfield to starve their attack. If we have the ball they dont!!

Just about spot on., assuming Waite and Jamison both play.

Not sure his fitness is up to it, but I'd love to see Waite play on a wing, running forward to create, and dropping back to float in front of the leading forwards.

I think the key to winning is shutting down Black, Rich etc, and Waite / Thornton dropping in the space in front of Fevola and Brown, or floating across.

Definitely need someone standing in the space in front of Fevola. Wouldn't be surprised if we played both rucks on the ground at the same time, with one dropping back into the defensive 50.

Interested to see how WC plays Brisbane's forward line tonight.

Jamison vs Fevola vs Carlton

Waite Setanta, Bower, Henderson, Thornton vs Brown, Brennan....we'll be right.

Nudge Nudge...check out our list again if you have any doubts about our capability.

I liked seeing Carrots, Scotland and McLean in the guts against Tiggers ....pretty tough stuff.
Then there was Murphy and Gibbs was were unbeatable in the guts and there most of the time...plenty of class.
That's where I always expect us to win it. In the middle where even Bettsy mixed it this week, with Simmo, Robbo and Walker adding plenty of talent in the rotations.

Rotations are important. We have ample runners.
Ample experience with Scotland, Houlihan, Simpson, Carrots, Waite and Thornton.

Armfield will come in if fit. That's about it.

Nice to see Hadley play aginst the Lions. Would love to see that.

Stop Black, Power and Rich, Pressure in the forwardline and plenty of run (Army would be good for more of this) and we have the ammunition to win this well.

They need Brown and Fev to fire with 10 goals. We have to stop supply.

Minimum 5 goal win is expected from me.

Go Blues

I've tipped the Eagles...not confidently, but I think it'll be a close tussle. Should give us a really good insight into where the Lions are at and how they move the ball out of defence. Some new faces should be interesting too. Young Banfield in particular.

Not JR , please .
He's found his spot , and is playing good football . Leave him there I reckon . His kicking has improved , specially when he has the kick-in duties . We've lacked that for a long time . Don't muck around with it now .

+1

He dominates against the flanker types too, and runs the lines. Leave JR down back

Not watching Lions vs WC but first half scoring indicates Lions might be overrated...... hopefully....

Brisbane playing through the corridor a lot and using handball with waves of players running forward.

Eagles have scored a couple of goals from kick ins. Brisbane pushing players up for their zone, Eagles leaving players back in their forward line and then bunching where their kick in is going so they out number the Lions and then move the ball forward where their players are unmanned.

Brisbane should counter that tactic quickly and take control of the game.

Pretty simple really. If our fitness isn't up to scratch we will lose, the Lions are proving again how fit they are, and that's with half the team cramping. Although the recovery period is smaller which could be a blessing.

Goose had cramp and played out the game.

Not sure who the other injured player was though.

Adcock rolled an ankle but looked like he may have gone back on if needed.

In any case I hope there are some sore and tired legs after tonights game!!

By the way does anyone else think that their #5 looks a tad silly in that jumper, that guernsey is a shocker!

Very strong finish by the Lions however I think their midfield is pretty average. If we can keep Black and Power reasonably quiet we are a good chance.

Anyone else think Rich looks a little slow?

The 5 day turnaround will make it tough for them - especially after a tough match on a warm Brisbane night.

Lara Bingle for one!

If we get within 20 points we'll have done well based on last week. Fev will kick a bag just to prove a point and Brown will do what he always does and get about 5.
The reality is we aren't as good as Brisbane yet, despite beating them twice last year. No Judd will hurt us a lot more this week.

Had we played anybody but Melbourne or Richmond it would have been a struggle.

BTW, I hope I am proved severely wrong and will eat a healthy dose of humble pie if so.
