Looks like it will always be vulnerable.

Overall though, we should've pumped them by more than last years margin of 83. The umps and us dropping off let them back in the game. We should improve from here!

marci, Ratts mentioned that taking him off was just a precaution and that Jamo is fine as is his shoulder.

Phew!
I just always worry that he'll damage it. It was such an innocuous challenge and it hurt him

Haven't read the entire thread. Just got back from the game. Red eye flight out of Melb to Tassie meant a 4:30 rise.

Warnock was crap early for mine but got better as the game went on. His smothers etc made up for some poor decisions, the first two goals from Richmond were from Warnock errors. He needed the run and has been so long away the pace would have surprised him at first.

McLean got OK numbers. Instrumental in the first two goals. Had some bad moments but showed why we went after him.

Yarran showed plenty. When he gets the footy, the game slows down around him.

Setanta did not give up one single contested mark all night. He either marked or brought the ball to ground at every single contest. We only need 2 per week from him and last night he might have had 4 or at a pinch, 5. Maybe 6 if Waite hadn't outmarked him at one stage.

Robinson is never beaten.

Waite looks like he never left.

Houla didn't waste a possession, showed spectacular vision and his twisting run was pretty special, even though the umpy should have blown him up for carrying the footy about 40 metres.

Henderson didn't do a lot in terms of marking and kicking goals but showed a lot of upside. he is quicker than I thought and presents well.

Eddie was Eddie.

Walker needed the hitout. One day he will run with the footy and be the player we all think he can be.

Carazzo was great. Simmo I thought a little quiet by his lofty standards. Ando was average, I thought. Did a couple of OK things but wasn't in the game at all.

Gibbs was a good player for us, as was Murphy. Kreuzer looked good all night and is so quick and good at ground level for such a big kid.

Bower and the other backs did well. I think Morton is going to be a great footballer and he was kept pretty quiet. I just wish they wouldn't gin around with the footy so much down back. Every turnover is a potential goal against us and there were a couple last night. Kickouts are still a problem. I think we had one easy one last night that took us almost the length of the ground.

Nice win. Worth the money and time to go over. I'll take it any day. Back again for Round 3, which will be a bit more of an indicator as to our whereabouts.

Great start to the season, which we really needed considering the coming tough games brisbane / Adelaide / Geelong etc.

Honestly don't think there will be any EASY games this season (till we play Richmond again anyway!)

Best for mine were
Betts / Carrots / McLean / Kreuzer and special mention to Setanta who showed 100% commitment in everything he did - He may be still very Raw after all these years but at least you know your gonna get a player who will never give up and constantly give his all.

I still hate this "Playing Backwards" crap. :banghead: Though it's hard to criticise it at the moment cause we just won by 9 goals.

We were never going to go at 100% so can see why they tried to slow it down at times. The heat last night would have also been a factor on us trying to slow it down.

Anyway a win is a win in my books and we can all enjoy the weekend and hope the pies/bombers get smashed.

I know. And your right. I just hate seeing that 'Hold the ball up' signal when there is still 5+ mins in the qtr.

It worked against shitmond but it wont work against teams like Geelong / StKilda.

Agree with this. There was a contest on the outer HFF where he was out of position to take the mark against a smaller opponent (the new Richmond player wearing #50 I think) – but more than kept up with him in the chase, was really much quicker than I would’ve expected from someone so tall.

(well, according to Tim Lane, he is)

I found that pretty funny as well. You'd think, not only as a footy broadcaster, but also as a Carlton supporter, that he might actually have some kind of clue.

Does anyone else think that Ratts has lost a shed load of weight over the off season?? I noticed it last night in the post game interview, unless it was just a function of the camera lens.

Stone, he did an article in the Hun where he stated that the coaching staff had been on a fitness kick in the pre-season but that he [Ratts] had done a seperate program.

He looked great in the PC and he actually looks a few years younger. No camera work here Stone.

He also has a new lady in his life, so that might explain the weight loss.

we gave up at least a couple of goals from stuff ups when we switched around the backline in the first half. I actually dont mind it though as I think it did a lot to create space and open up opportunities for quick ball movement. Definitely a step up from what we had seen pre-season.

Ratten did say that we were a bit too attacking last season - yesterday we were possibly a bit too defensive at times. Once we strike the right balance though then the playing backwards/switching play will be a lot smoother/quicker and we will be able to open a few sides up :)

Standard win against a bottom 3 opponent...
Not getting too carried away with the win as a better team would ve punnished our errors more then the Tuggers did...
Ratts should back our team, and put the tempo footy to rest against teams obviously inferior to us. The only times we got undone last night was when we started the chip chip crap with 5-6 minutes to go in quarters...

He was referring to the relative "states" of the Carlton and Richmond teams. It was always likely to be a one-sided game.

the other one he is only 20!!!
when austin comes in it will give us more flexibility.
