Focusing soley on what they currently provide the team; ignoring "excitement factor", and "potential"; I think Russell is the better player.

Both have similar body types.

Walker has a slight edge with acceleration, and maybe strength.

Russell has a huge advantage skill wise, and is definitely a much, much better decision maker.

IMHO Russell is a far more important cog in our team.

Your thoughts?

1AW sprayed a few as always but definitely in our best 22.

JR gets the nod

Russell is currently the better player. So confident right now. Walker seemed to be busting to make an impact, didn't quite come together for him on the night.

I'll back Walks to settle down his kicking over the next few weeks and have a major impact.

Jordy is the more valuable at the moment. But, in some ways, the comparison is becoming irrelevant on account of the fact they offer different attributes and play different roles for the team.

Russell's clean up work in D50 is getting so much better and his composure and self-confidence is also improving. It's a fantastic evolution to see, really. He's nowhere near being in our worst 6 players, so Walls will need to find a new whipping boy (looks like he already found in Mitch).

As much as I hate to admit it Walker's disposal was a bit off at times tonight, but he has the potential to break a game open in a way that Russell doesn't.

So, at the moment, Russell is the player we would miss the most, however, a fit and firing Walker has plenty to add to our best 22.

Walker had an alright game yesterday, but his possessions are wasted as he sprays them everywhere.

I love watching Russell dance through traffic, his confidence has grown enormously.

Why do you think that might be?

JR definitely ahead at this stage, no doubt about that. But I think the comparison is unfair. You're comparing a guy who's played 2-3 full seasons almost uninterrupted to a guy who hasn't played the equivalent of a full season in that same time which IMO would still be affecting his confidence. If AW plays the rest of the season, I think it'll be more fair to compare.

Off-field though, I'd much rather see JR as a face of the club than AW.

Walker is a great weapon when used in his preferred spot on a HBF.

He's played bugger-all footy in 2 years and did quite well last night. Walker's possessions are rarely cheap.

Well, the supporters of every club need their whipping-boy. It's one of the immutable laws of the game.

There's always an ugliest girl in the room, and there'll always be a worst player in the 22 :smoking: .

Walker is not ours.

Statistically that was Russell's best game. He was superb last night. Walker's best is better but at the moment Russell is doing more than expected.

When are we going to start marking walker based on actual performance rather then potential??

Both fine players. Russell in great form. Walker is not in the best touch but his running is of great value to the team. Watch him without the ball and you will see a very fit player. Last night i though a lot of his runs (without the ball) when we were in possession created loads of space for others and his runs when they were in possession helped shut thm down and slowed them up.

His decision making with the ball was a bit off and you could see it was frustrating him.

Ummm, okay Walker is potentially our worst player, but based on performance he's not  .

in some ways its very hard to compare a player who has played 3 years straight to 1 that has been interupted and still probably trying to fiind his confidence, russell at the moment is a better player and i doubt walker will surpass what russell is doing at the moment. I cant see walkers disposal improving that much and to be quite honest if we are still waiting for this so called potential we might be waiting a long time but i hope im proven wrong

Walks will get better if he can play uninterrupted strings of games.

But JR gives us more at the moment, no doubt.
