I bet the same people doubting Henderson are the same people who wrote off Kennedy (both Carlton and West Coast supporters)

What are you actually expecting from KP forwards early in their careers? JK, in his 4th year last year kicked 30 goals but more importantly provided a huge focal point up forward. Surely history has shown over and over again the time needed to let key forwards develop.

Fevola's 5th year was the first year in which he really achieved something.

Why do i just get this feeling that Setanta is going to really come on this season up forward.

I reckon he could be a 45+ a season forward with several bags of 4s and a few days out of 5 or even 6s?

He slotted 4 against freo at subi last year and that was with fev commanding the footy

He'll have better credentialled opponents to deal with this year but he has the size, athleticism and intensity to cause some problems for them.
With all our forwards, decent delivery is the key.

Hendo looks competent and has a good head on his shoulders. Will take a few years before he fires, like most kpps

Because you're probably right as usual.

I have always loved Setanta; at times more than Fev.
It is time he lived his potential, because those 3 goals in the pre season said a lot about his potential.

I'm use to hope he would be the next generateion wingmen with his brother on the other wing, but now I hope he exceeds the triumphs of Spalding had.
I expect Setanta to play in more flags than I do Josh Kennedy (ex Carlton at WCE) because of the strength of our list.
Keep the faith, the 17th is a work in progress, and from there we look at 18th and 19th and 20th .....back to back to front flags.

Oh yeah...my team prediction on a huge milestone game with Thornton playing his 150 and Carrazzo playing 100 games at the bounce of the opening game of the season.
We will rain on Richo's farewell, and Hardwicks first foray into senior coaching.
I despise Hardwick as a psycho in footy player....although probably a good family man.

Just a guess...Armfield to be selected...can't see why not.
We are likely to win more midfield possession with or without Judd.
Plus theTigers will run out of puff like our kids did in 2006 and 2007 at the same age.
Carlton has plenty more experience and seasoned bodies than the Tigers.
We have the capacity to kick 16-18 goals imo.

Waite and Murphy to be rotated by fit players on the bench. They bothe should kick a few.

B: Armfield Jamison Thornton
HB: Russell Bower Scotland
C: Walker McLean Simpson
HF: Houlihan O'hAlpin Yarran
F: Waite Henderson Betts

FOLL Kreuzer Murphy Gibbs

INT Warnock Carrazzo Robinson Joseph

I wish Hampson was ripe to play Ruck/ FP though to allow Kreuzer to play as a Ruck Rover for the boundary throw ins and run over the ground, whilst Warnock protects the corridor-spine. That will allow Kreuzer to move forward to create scoring opportunities too, moreso than using as goal to goal defensive placement.

We are going to win by 83 points.......imo................@#$%&! better, because we would with Judd.

Catch us if you can. Go HENDO

A big black dog could kick the goals this guy did with the amount of service he was given

Why?

How many other AFL 196cm players who are 20 yrs old and have played 15 games (most in defence) have done much more than he has at the same time. Probably about 1% of them all in the past 20 yrs.

I see what you mean ... and I hope I am wrong ...

He gives 100% and thats great. I am concerned about his skill level ...

He does not strike me as a pack marker nor is he that great on the lead .

He fumbles too much ...

His kicking looks poor as well.

Still ... he is young ... it might be just nerves.

Given that he's only 20 and at most you've seen him play in 5 games...what could they be?

Is there something you were expecting to see from him that you haven't?

He has played 15 games as well for Brisbane ... and he did not impress me there either.

As it stands now .. I reckon he will last about 3 years ...

I really hope the boy makes it ... because as I said ... he gives 100%.

I actually found Henderson's games with Brisbane last year pretty impressive. How many games have you watched this year, aside from that absolute scrap against Sydney?

Sorry, but this is absolute crap.

The reason we kicked the ball to Fevola was because he was clearly the most likely to 1) get it and 2) kick a goal if he got it.

My son is (marginally) more athletic than your run-of-the-mill big black dog but he couldn't kick 10 goals in 2 seasons of AFL even if he got 9 joe-the-gooses, let alone 188.

You're getting your hatred get in the way of reality.

Because he was a halfwit who should never have been drafted in the first place and only then because Pagan had some grandiose plans of playing OVER the dominant CHF of the club at the time (who made All Australian 2 years earlier) in favour of creating a Pagan's Paddock type of style to our game which, as we all know, worked about as well as a square wheel.

Fevola's last game in 2002 was in a reserves match in Rd 22 from memory and he was a childish, petulant sook then. Leaning on the fence, against the post, abusing his 'team mates', dropping the ball when meant to throw it back to his opponent. Yeah.. a lot changed once Pagan took over didn't it.

God I'm rapt that knob is GONE!!!

My take is pretty different. i get the whole woe-is-us because of the loss of Fevola and Judd for this match (not so much Stevens), and difficulties in scoring, and that will be a key theme through the year. But this is Richmond, who has also lost their main forward. Richmond has the worst list in the competition and outside of 5-6 really good youngsters I dont think theyve got much going for them. They have 2-3 guys who can take a mark in the forward line but our defence will be close to full strength. I think we'll shut them down to <10 goals.

Our forward line will get a good try out but I think we'll break away and win by 40 points +.

Id tag Cousins with Carrazzo to try to minimise his impact around the ball. he can go 1-2ing in defence a la Ablett as much as he likes but if you stop his impact around the contest then he's just another flanker in defence.

Id play Armfield tight on Nahas as Nahas shows a bit.

Is Walker up to going head to head with Deledio? Id prefer that match up to Gibbs, from last year. id like Gibbs plonked in the centre to star.

Looking forward to seeing young Martin but also Lucas.

ps In defence of the Blueseum post, that was clearly an example around how long it takes key forwards to make an impact, in his case, his 5th year. Comparisons of Kennedy and Henderson etc. in this thread over pages 11-12 explore this. The post is in no way saying we're going to miss Fevola either way.

Henderson will be a gun. Do not worry about it. And he will be around in 8 - 10 years unlike Fev.

In The Age ‘time capsule’ today most ‘journos’ (ignoring the likes of Lyon) tip us to underachieve, while several tip us to overachieve (incl Caro!). Not that I’m taking much notice of it. Just really underlines the point that nobody seems to have a clue what we’ll do this year.

Hendo reminded me of Kennedy, I am sure he will be fine, but I am not expecting miracles this season. He will end up being more of a Cam Mooney style player (lead up CHF). Regardless of what anyone thinks of Cam Mooney he is massively important to Geelong's structure, and players like him don't grow on trees.

He could be better than Mooney, but I think that type of player is what we are looking at.

Bit worried about Murphy in this game. Hope we ease him into it and don't have to keep him on the ground for too long - last thing we need is for him to injure his groin.

Let's not take them for granted - I think 6 to 7 goals win would be a fair effort.
Definitely should tag Nahas, and I like the idea of carazzo on cousins, but doesn't necessarily have to be a close tag. If we can keep Cotchin and Martin in check then we should be comfortable.

I have bookmarked this as I believe it is one of the most short sighted posts in the history of the site. I am going to enjoy bumping it every time Hendo kicks a bag. I am petty and believe me I will.
