What a pack of idiot captains all the other teams have. Not even close the Judds quality and they know it.......

Unfortunately, they probably know more about what they are talking about than you, Drewgirl.

I tend to agree with them. Hopefully you are right and all we doubting Thomases (including very good footballers who have been playing professionally for 7 years minimum) are wrong.

Can 1 player - Fevola - really be so important to a team's success? Guess time will tell.

We had a dream draw last year - we don't this year.

It is hard to believe at the end of 1994, most of the Press said we were too old, too slow, didn't have enough talent, blah blah blah

Gee then we won the flag on the back of some clever recruitment of players like Campo, Clape & Manton and the continued development of Whitehead, Kouta, Ang, Ratten, Brown and Mckay.

Also Rice and Hogg recovered from injury

Don't forget Kernahan missed a number of games as well.

Again the press don't like us. So lets what Carlton does best, ... the rest.

I had a dream last night last year after Juddy accepted the Cup he was making his victory speech and he uttered only a few words - to the 15 other captains YOU WERE WRONG!

Something I havent seen mentioned is the benefit of getting in some games against Sydney and Adelaide and that lock down style of play we struggle against. I'm sure we'll be better for it.

Spalding was the best and in my eyes the most influential recruit of the lot. We had a flying start to 1996 and if my memory serves me correctly he went down with a knee injury in about Round 8. He missed plenty of games and the team went backwards from that point on.

To be honest, I'm neither here nor there at the mo.

Pre season has been underwhelming, but you kinda have to expect it I spose, given the departure of Fevola.

New game plan makes sense given our current circumstances, so the proof will be in the pudding - how many games we win.

I'd like to think we will get Roughead at the end of the year :donk:

Exactly what I wrote in another thread, we were written off after 1993 as well, many thought we wouldn't make the finals in 1994, and Essendon* were on the verge of some dynasty :screwy:

A lot of these expectations we will be poor is more wishful thinking.

They might be right, but then again, how come Essendon* aren't getting the boot stuck into them? Surely their in a similar situation (losing experienced important players). Or are somehow Carlton's expectations higher (even when everyone thinks they will finish lower)?

The captains rarely get it wrong. I remember after one of our night premierships, we were all the rage and only one captain picked us to make the eight.---inevitably we woodenspooned

Flying under the radar. Better this way as no expectations, except by carlton supporters of course.

Certainly a lot less pressure on the players in 2010, but a lot more pressure on the coaching staff. Happy to be flying under the radar, though.

Would you expect anything less after that preseason? Totally off the map, lost games against relatively weaker strength opposition...

Just about every team had one win reasonably publicised. Our only win came in a game where the result was voershadowed by the occasion.

Our draw last year opened up in the second half as does this one.............We may still come home with a wet sail.

Most likely from a worse start though.

I agree.

I have us 1 and 6 at the end of round 7 - then gradually imrpoving to best team outside the 8 status.

Id say that if it were not for the fact that we had a bad start - then we might have perhaps won a final - because 7th and 8th will be held by teams clearly in worse form that us by seasons end.

So it will be a bittersweet kind of season for Carlton - with further football department issues coming in the 2010/11 period

gosh blueman,
I hope you don't explode if we win a few games in the first 7 rounds.

Last year's predictions:

AFL Captains 2009 wrote:
WHICH seven other clubs do you think can make this year’s top eight?

Carlton (15), Geelong (15), Hawthorn (15), Western Bulldogs (14), Collingwood (12), Port Adelaide (10), St Kilda (nine), Adelaide (six), Brisbane Lions (four), Richmond (four), North Melbourne (three), Sydney (three), Essendon* (one), Fremantle (one), Melbourne (nil), West Coast Eagles (nil).

I think they're just as guilty of following hype as the media and fans. Four picked Richmond to make the 8 on the back of recruiting Cousins

If i am to believe the so called experts, we were a one man team last year, and that man wasn't Judd :screwy:. our list has been together for a few years now, and are now another year stronger, wiser and fitter. Sure, we have a tough first 8 weeks, but we should expect to win 3, if not 4 of those matches. i really hope we can stick it up all those media mofos :smoking:

They do by default. Each captain picks 7 other teams.
