I was fortunate enough to be one of the TCers to go along to the sponsorship dinner last night at Crown. Sat next to Jordon Russell. Kane lucas was also on our table.

Being the type of environment that modern football is it was a fairly subdued affair and last night probably more so considering the grief we have had to wear as a club recently when alcohol is involved. The players were on waters all night and the poor bastards had to eat fruit salad when everyone else got cheesecake.

Now, I'm not the type of supporter that gives two shits about gossip and I also have no desire to tell players what might be wrong with their game or to pass on any suggestions to the coach as to what he should be doing either. To be honest, apparent 'supporters' like that I find both embarrassing to themselves and Carlton. I simply love a club that has given me great moments in my life and enjoy it for what it is, come good or bad. And in my view, (as much as I do believe we are about winning premierships), I'll follow the club till I die no matter the capacity.

Here are a few things of note, whilst taking the previous paragraph into account.

Jordan is an outstanding representative of the club. He is extremely observant and able to weigh several conversations without compromising himself or Carlton. He also took a young Blues kid under his arm most of the night and made sure it was one she would look back on with great memories. I have no doubt he is leadership material. He has an excellent repore with the playing group as a whole and was singled out to make a short speech concerning where he was at. He feels he is really starting to come into his own and is most happy with his role off half back.

Kane Lucas is just a kid but extremely polite and able to roll with a fair whack of sarcasm and ribbing. He is living with the parents of Power player Jackson Trengrove and reckons his ironing is at a level that would probably impress his mum. I really hope he makes it.

A few other bits-

- Mitch Robinson is both a bloke you want to punch but can't help loving apparently, and when he goes in hard on field really inspires the team. He is one of three rangas currently at the club which is the maximum quota.

- Posters on TC who bitch and moan and generally depress themselves don't have a clue what is going on. (Whether that's my opinion or a player statement is up to you to decide).

- Rohan Kerr has contender for worst tattoo in Australia- a yabbie on his arm. But a really shit yabbie.

- Brock McCleans table (Lauraine Diggins Fine Art) were certainly the most vocal crowd of the night. Brock did well to reign the girls in.

- Kernahans speech was brief but what more was there to say but bring on the Tigers. He did mention that Judds leadership had been dragged through the mud by the media but was unequivocal in the clubs fortune to not only have the best player in the country but also the best captain. Also said that the expectation on the playing group was one of continued improvement, not miracles. Felt we were building a dynasty with some highly skilled young players with major room for additional growth.

- The media has Carlton, Collingwood and Richmond in its sights in Melbourne for ' a story at any cost...'

- Yazz looked really comfortable in himself and his surroundings.

- Jamo is King of Defence- just ask him.

- Paul Bower is probably the white 50cent, but just as probably the Carlton 5cent.

The other TCers can fill you in on what they took from the night.

All I can say is the players were all approachable and humble without losing sight of who they were and this site is fortunate to be represented by Jordan Russell who is as solid a Carlton man as you could hope: all he needs is a premiership medal.

Thanks Orangewhip - that's an awesome review of proceedings! Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself as a TC representative!

I think it is fair to say that the Mike and Dan team always found JR very articulate and great to interview. The fact that he is now starting to turn into an impressive player is something that should please many of us, because he comes across as a very decent and genuine human being.

Thanks again

Great post OW you lucky bastard.

JR sounds like a ripper. We should have used a first rounder on him. :donk:

I don't think he was even on the piss last night. Was good to meet someone face to face you've known online for many years.

Actually no, no it wasn't, because I've flower hated KK online for many years...

I had to good time too!

KK and I sat with Mr P Biddy (Paul Bower) for the evening.
I was impressed by the mans eating ability. (two mains)
I also showed him his thread on TC.
Luckily it was all good, except for a post about Pauly not having enough muscles.
At that point I grabbed his arm and he proceded to near breaking my hand with bicept, thanks SydneyBlue (or bondi).
He said they don't read the forums at all, but did ask what we had been saying. I told him my happy side of the story, and affectionately refered to Fev as that flower.

Lachie Henderson sat across the table from us, and was very popular autograph wise. He is a big unit. I had to make sure I stood up tall to prove I was taller. At some point I remember doing a back to back with Sticks too.

Also spoke to some unamed person at the dinner who told me Gibbs had re-signed, loves Carlton and is never leaving. He seemed also to have a father son relationship with Sticks.

KK only showed me three baby photos, which I thought was a result.

I met Whippy too. Not what I expected. I rated him 8/10, purely on athsetics.

Thanks for the report Orange, you've reinforced what I already know about Jordan.

I'm glad you had a good night.

I think KK must have missed his plane home.

Oh and the guy who was sitting next to us loves Mr and Mrs Caz.
He kept asking where they were.
KK and I thought we were cool. Obviously not.

I also shook hands with the Messiah. I love Judd.
Then GIBBS. I think he thought I was weird.

If Table #5 was back right then Table #5 it was. Great vocal and pointy-dance-to-Lily of Laguna efforts all round,

To add to Whippy and Dane's words:

It was a very quiet night, more a sponsor's night than a jumper presentation. All the players we met were really pleasant, and enjoyed chatting to many people.

I collected plenty of autographs of the players. For BabyK. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

The speeches were the usual "The guys are pumped/personal bests/training the house down/can't wait for the season to start/at Carlton we expect finals" sort of thing. Nothing outrageous there.

Paul Bower was great company.

JR bagged Adelaide, which El Presidente was less than happy about. If Sticks is on the MC, expect JR to be emergency for 6 rounds as a result.

Dane less so, but I expected that, so all is cool. Dane is also a fine player of Mr Packer's tables.

The players sometimes need subtitles when Sticks talks in his infrasonic-only-elephants-and-whales-can-hear-frequencies-so-low voice.

I cornered Sticks and had a 5 minute chat to him about the frustrations of being a Sydney member. I think he was dying to get away from me by the end. Sorry, Sticks.

And, it's official:

More pics soon

PS: I still have the plaque. Do you want or need me to send it to you, Mrs Caz?
