From where i'm sitting he'll be no better than a Barnaby French type, he's certainly no quicker and does less around the ground than Barnaby did. But like Barnaby he'll give you an honest contest, which is a good trait to have when you lack the natural talent. Good midfielders may be a dime a dozen but you need a plethora of them in today's game, and at the moment we don't have a enough of good midfielders.

Grigg really knows how to play the game, just needs to get some continuity. Major shame he got that bad ankle injury just before last season as he was killing it in the preseason. I'm sure you'd be singing from a different page if that wasn't the case.

Not at all. To date, Grigg has been fairly disappointing. His disposal has been fairly ordinary and the best I've seen him play thus far was against the Swans last week.

He'd need to get a wriggle on because if GC came knocking I'd offer him up at the end of the year should he have another poor year.

Like i said... its doubtful GC has signed anyone yet... and i doubt they will sign anyone who isnt over 30....and wanting their retirement super handshake ...or blokes who dont matter anyway.
That club will be a basketcase for a decade or more.
It has no culture.
It will have no real leadership.
It has no foundation except some money and handouts from the AFL to assist it.

Things dont work short term like that,....

So i doubt any gun footballer will leave to that... no matter what the hype pretends.

AFL culture is different....

That one made me laugh...   That has about as much credence to it as the one I heard in a Lygon St restaurant the other day....even though it was a joke.

"I'm telling you...it's Armfield to the Gold Coast - he's signed with the Titans to play Rugby League!"

Port - Crows West coast and once Lions merged all won flags with in th first 6 years of entering the comp and they didn't get half the consessions these two sides are getting

if you wanted assurances of playing in a grand final I would be heading to GC or GWS

Good luck!!!

lol

18 teams.
free agency.
3rd party payments.

GC dont have a football envirornment.. no culture.. and a small back yard.
The AFL isnt thinking it will work overnight.. thats hype.. theyre planning for the next 50 years onwards of market share...
These clubs will just tread water... till the game is engrained there.

How will these clubs pick up if noone goes?
I doubt many will go unless theyre fringe players... or old players.

Lets just see!

Brisbane can't be included either, they came in 1987, regardless of the merger (where they acquired about 2-3 decent players, only one of which was in their premiership sides).

Considering Cotchin was one of the "very likelies" to have already signed, i'm going to pass this thread as absolute crap.

I'm sure the advantageous salary cap concessions Lions received later on is what helped them win the three in a row....that is not new news either....its a contentious point the AFL were forced to act on when they considered that 3 in a row isn't a bad leg up.

Leyts get real folks...money talks!

Shaun Grigg.

He hasn't "signed" with the GC side, but he is alleged to have put forth his terms and conditions.

See if thats true, why should he be taking the place in our team for someone that wants to play for us.

So we stand him out of football for 12 months and not only lose his services for the season, but also destroy his value, and get a substandard pick as compensation?

Gotta think with the head on this one, as much as it galls to do so. The AFL has made this mess, but we'd be cutting off our own noses if we responded emotionally, IMO.

I just hate the thought of someone we showed faith in, underhandedly speaking to another club while he is on contract with us.

You would think he would be working extra hard to gain a permanent spot in our team first before being big headed enough to be speaking to other clubs.

I dont know, it does not sit well with me at all.

I dont feel like barracking for someone like that.

If all we lose is Grigg, then i will be a happy blue man.. we could be Geelong and lose one of Ablett or Selwood...

I haven't given up on Grigg, I hope he hasn't given up on Carlton. I hope he can correct his flaws, otherwise he doesn't have much of a future at any club.

If he can eliminate the regular clanger kicks he's history.

..fair enough, i just don't think he's any garuntee of being in our best 22.. ..currently in/out i reckon.. ..not sure he's good enough to plat alot of senior footy this year, so not sure how much his 'value' will be raised..
