This thread has been hijacked.
It's now an attack on posters, site, generation, inuendo, whispers, voices in heads....!@#$%& me swinging.
It's now about anything but our opinion.
Keogh, don't worry about my facts 70, 73 or rookie....you made my point, but it was not you I was baiting.
I too have had an opinion about TC and I took it off line. When I sought to undrstand, I found that not much changed, but I understood that at the bottom line you see we are all in the same boat with our loyalty to CFC, we just express it and value it differently.
For some it is life and death, such is the pasion in the sport (any sport...remember....Harding...ice skating)
I aint putting any plug on you keogh, but FFS, whilst you have an audience to put your opinion about the club forward, you are respected, and you aint the hunted, so give up the victum stuff. I'm on your side, if that's for the right of an opinion.
When there is on line tension within the thread and it has no relevance to the thread, that's wrong.
!@#$%& I'm guilty of doing the same thing. FFS, even Moderators do.
I am just understanding TC after it's turned 5, to know it's phyche, personality politics, people, personalities.... it's all innocent; we're on the same side; as long as you're 'allowed' to voice our opinion, then it's a privelege; as long as there is a forum for differeing opinions then that's cool too. There's no need or point in getting angry.
It's still preseason, people are still sensitive of the finals loss of 2009, the suspension of Judd, the loss of Fev, the Booze Cruise media hype...and in general, a lot of attacks on our clubs' efforts, such as interstate promotion (especially from me recently), draft selections (mids vs KP's) etc, but there's no doubt we all agree we, the CFC is in a better place come 2010 than where we were at anytime since 2002, with or without Fev.
Really nothing has changed. If anything, at least for the long term, CFC is a better place in 2010 than it was in 2009. Just do the sums. Remember there are no gurantees with Flags. You either compete for one, or you're out of the race.
IMO, We are getting closer to a GF than not.
I'm a Carlton supporter who expects success. That's natural since I've been to 8 premierships after 12 GF's and 20 finals series. But I've learned that the system has changed. I'm now kicking back and enjoying the next assault, but in a differnet space. I am no longer a teenager (even though I act and feel like one).
No doubt, we are closer to a flag now, than we were ever between 2009-2002 regardless of whatever anyone says on internet forums against this premise.
Our list is fantastic. There's no doubt about it. It's our team, and we are off the bottom, for a long time (regardless of what the likes of DOA, Robbo of the HUN and some TC posters have suggested).
With regards to our 17th Flag, our window is open. If it's not Rattens fault, or Kernahans, or Houla's or Fev's that we don't win a GF in the next 3-4 years, then it has to be something or somebody's fault. We have a 10 year old list as it stands. We are ahead of most team including the GC17 and GWS and their concessions.
At the end of the day. we all know it, if you put a group of 22 from your list of 44, and they are good enough to win a Flag, then they are probably good enough to win a flag regardless of the coach.
I just want to get in a GF every year as a minimum expectation. I did tell you I was Carlton.
Ask Parkin with his last 2 attempts to win a flag, who was 'really' coaching. It just happens, one of his disciples who offered coaching assistance to Parko back then (not Diesel, Kerna, Braddles, McKay, Dean, SOS...and the list goes on from the 1995-1999 era) who is Ratten is coaching this era.
Now it's his turn. Anything can happen and I believe in the list regardless of who is coach.
We have to give him our support, and stop the mudslinging amongst our CFC brethren.
It's a young list. Experience is scarce, so we need to cherish the 5 older statesmen, because that's it.. We have what we have. You can't change that in 2010.
Each year since we took Walker there has been an improvement at CFC. FFS, it is now 7 years since then. Whether success comes with or without Fev that is not the answer. It's about our group and where the group collectively is at. Fev was ahead of his time for a flag at Carlton, despite his 12 goal teaser in the mellinium game on the last day of 1999.
We've moved on since then.
Lets focus on the team we have in 2010. It's a great list which Imo can weather a 26 week premiership period. It's game on.
The last thing I need right now is to find on top of the HUN, Caro and Patrick Smut, I have to hear Carlton supporters bashing Carlton.
It's game on. I want a flag. What is ...well is.
All the power in the world is in Ratten's hand, so I'm backing Ratten, not his detractors.
Lets all get behind him now, because there aint going to be a coup for at least the next 3 months. If things turn out positive, we'll be knocking on the door of a flag, and the doomsdayers will all come back (as they should) to back our club till the death!
Now why doesn't everyone get behind the club and let go of the Carlton bashing.
We have a Flag to win and anything can happen in a 'no offside' game (remember)...if you've got the right stuff of course.
I believe we have. Whether it's 2010, 2011 or 2012 and thereafter, I know its going to happen.
Such is the state of affairs in footy. You either see it and take advantage of it or miss out, or, you spot the defeciencies in the team and don't risk your money. Any deficiencies (perceived or real)should not stop you from supporting CFC, and on this site too remember, we're all on the same side.
