Our starting 18 to be...

B: Dennis Armfield, Michael Jamison, Bret Thornton
HB: Paul Bower, Jarrad Waite, Jordan Russell
C: Bryce Gibbs, Kade Simpson, Aaron Joseph
HF: Mitch Robinson, Setanta O'hAilpin, Andrew Walker
F: Chris Yarran, Lachie Henderson, Eddie Betts

Foll: Matthew Kreuzer, Marc Murphy, Brock McLean

You would imagine that with this 4 tall defenders setup, there is a very small chance that we will be going with the 3 ruckman scenario that has been tried in the NAB series. So its either Warnock or Hammer on the bench...

Waite will play full-forward and will push up only if we need him too, especially in the first few rounds as he gets his fitness up. If he comes back lacking a little zip to begin with, he would get destroyed in defence.

No need to add Waite to our current defense. Far too tall with Jamo Thornton Bower and Waite.

Will Armfield be ready for Round 1?

afl.com.au's prediction for our mid-field in round one:

C: Bryce Gibbs, Kade Simpson, Aaron Joseph
Foll: Matthew Kreuzer, Marc Murphy, Brock McLean

Without the captain, this still looks a damn good mid-field. :smoking:

I love your graphic.
Where is Hoops?
Surely he will play?
Not only that but I'm still predicting he will kick many goals for us this year.

And this Jack is why some of the negativity around here continues to amaze me. Look at our top ten in the B&F last year, and have a look at the room for improvement many of them have. The only guys who were near the top of their game were Judd and Fevola. But blokes like Murph, Kreuzer, Gibbs, Joseph, and JR should only be getting better. We can still definitely make an impact in season 2010.

How anyone can look at our list and be negative amazes me, especially when considering we beat Geelong, Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, and Brisbane (twice) last year, and went within a whisker of beating St Kilda.

Considering the natural improvement in players such as Gibbs, Murphy, Kreuzer and many others, I think 2010 looks very bright.

Interesting to note that Fevola averaged 3.67 goals per game for those 2009 games, so perhaps we weren't so reliant on him in the big games after all...

..agreed, by memory Fev kicks bags more often against the bottom 8 sides, the better teams just clogged us up and nullified Fev's leads..

It is not just the amount of goals he kicks, he also takes the best defender and a lot of the focus. How the "lesser lights" perform under the Fevless forwardline is going to be the question of 2010. They could shine or wilt, it is an unknown at the moment. But still looking at the team boards, there is a lot to love about the CFC in 2010.

2010 season leading goal kickers (11 players)

waite to kick 40
murphy - 30
betts - 30
santa - 25
yarran - 20
simpson - 20
hendo - 20
hoops - 20
judd - 20
gibbs - 20
kruezer - 20

total - 265

now lets look at 2009 stats

Rank Name Total
1 Brendan Fevola 89
2 Eddie Betts 38
3 Marc Murphy 31
4 Kade Simpson 15
5 Bryce Gibbs 15
6 Ryan Houlihan 13
7 Matthew Kreuzer 13
8 Setanta O'hAilpin 12
9 Andrew Carrazzo 12
10 Jeff Garlett 12
11 Nick Stevens 12

total - 262

now throw in our awsome backline with a full fit and firing jamo, bower and t-bird,

then some smalls in army, russ and 1 other (cant decide)

and there is no reason why we cant hold teams to smaller scores.

so the theory is we cover last years goals with the 11 players i have named (we need them kicking more to cover FEV)

and reduce the amount of score against us

WIN WIN WIN WIN

at least i hope so

Here's an idea.

How about we don't kick it to the player the best defender is on.

Instead focus our entries on the weaker defenders.

So, we play the cats, and Scarlett picks up Hendo, so you just avoid Hendo, and get him to drag Scarlet out of the play, to minimise he re-bound.

Kick it to Setanta and Kreuz (drifting down) and Yazz and Betts instead

The good thing of not having a obvious stand-out fwd is it hurts less if we don't kick to him much

We need to be team oriented, and that means players making sacrifices some weeks, when it is their turn
